The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has three

stages for aspiring accountants:

1. Foundation Level (for non-accounting graduates):


o Quantitative Techniques in Business
o Business and Finance
o Financial Accounting
o Management Information System
o Business Law
2. Skills Level (for pure accounting graduates):
o Financial Reporting
o Performance Management
o Public Sector Accounting and Finance
o Management, Governance, and Ethics
3. Professional Level (for both accounting and non-accounting graduates):
o Corporate Reporting
o Advanced Audit and Assurance
o Strategic Financial Management
o Advanced Taxation
o Case Study

Remember, if you’re an educational accounting graduate, you’ll start from


the Foundation level and be exempted from four courses, but you’ll pay for

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) conducts


professional examinations twice annually, in the months
of May and November. These exams are essential for aspiring chartered
accountants. Here are the details:
1. May Diet:
o Dates: The May 2024 diet professional examinations are scheduled to hold
from Tuesday 14, May to Thursday 16, May 2024.
o Eligibility: The exams are open to ICAN’s registered financial students.
o Registration: The registration portal for the May 2024 diet will be open
from Tuesday 13, February 2024, to Friday 10, May 2024.
o Fees: The examination fees vary based on the number of papers:
o Foundation Level: 1 paper - ₦26,570, 2 papers - ₦33,920, 3 papers -
₦41,270, 4 papers - ₦48,510, 5 papers - ₦84,740
o Skills Level: 1 paper - ₦37,490, 2 papers - ₦49,250, 3 papers - ₦61,110,
4 papers - ₦72,870, 6 papers - ₦96,500
o Professional Level: 1 paper - ₦40,740, 2 papers - ₦53,970, 3 papers -
₦67,310, 4 papers - ₦80,540, 6 papers - ₦93,870

o Centres: There are over 50 examination centres across Nigeria, as well as


one each in Buea, Cameroon, and London, United Kingdom (UK).
2. November Diet:
o The November diet also follows a similar pattern, with exams conducted in
November each year.

globally, making these exams a significant milestone for aspiring
accountants.

To pass the Skills Level of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria


(ICAN), you’ll need to write four exams. These exams cover the following
areas:
1. Financial Reporting: This section focuses on financial accounting, including
compliance with local and international accounting standards. You’ll analyze
financial statements and understand accounting treatments.
2. Performance Management: Here, you’ll learn about evaluating
performance, making informed decisions, and advising on accounting
