Pre Lab 1

The document outlines the objectives and activities for Pre-Lab 1 in ENGR 3373, focusing on identifying resistor values using color codes. Students are required to complete theoretical calculations and report their findings at the beginning of Lab 1. It includes two main activities: determining resistor values from color codes and identifying color codes from given resistance values.

ENGR 3373 Pre-Lab 1: Introduction to Circuit Analysis 1

Texas State University–San Marcos

Ingram School of Engineering
Pre-Lab 1: Identifying Resistor Values

Name:
Date Due:

Objective: To become proficient in using a protoboard and identifying resistor values,

which will prepare you for upcoming labs.

Overview:
 Read in full these documents one or two days before your lab section.
 Complete all theoretical calculations and show your results as a pre-lab report to the
GIA at the beginning of Lab 1.

NOTE: Some resistors have 5 bands because they have high tolerance and require more
numbers to express their values. All our lab resistors are ± 5% and use 4 color bands as
shown above, however, Activity #1 uses only 3 color bands.

Activity #1: Identifying resistor value from color code

Determine the values of each resistor below and type them into the text boxes to the right
of each resistor. The ohm symbol (Ω) is NOT required.

Activity #2: Identifying color code from the resistance value

For each resistor value given, type the colors into the table.
