Google My Business
Introduction
Google My Business is a free tool provided by Google to help businesses manage their online presence.
When someone searches for your business name or keywords related to your services, Google pulls data
from your GMB profile to show details like your location, operating hours, and reviews.
Why GMB is important
● It increases your visibility on Google Search and Maps. Local customers searching for services you
offer are more likely to find you.
● It provides accurate and updated business information, which builds customer trust.
● It’s essentially a free digital marketing platform. You can promote events, post updates, and share
photos without spending money.
Example
"Let’s say you run a bakery. If someone nearby searches for ‘fresh cakes near me,’ your GMB profile can
make you stand out with images, reviews, and operating hours."
Setting Up Your Google My Business Profile
Enter your business name. If it already exists, you can claim it; otherwise, you can create a new profile.
Choose the right business category. For example, if you’re a hair salon, you can select ‘Beauty Salon.’
Add your business location. If you don’t serve customers at a physical address, you can choose to hide it and focus on
areas you serve instead.
Enter your contact details: phone number, website URL, and email address.
Verify your business. Google will send a postcard to your address with a code. Enter this code on GMB to confirm your
profile.
