Instagram Privacy Policy
Instagram Privacy Policy
▪ Our Privacy Policy describes how we and some of the companies we work
with collect, use, share and protect information in connection with our mobile
phone services, our website and any software provided by or related to
Instagram services (collectively, the "Service"), as well as the choices you have
regarding the collection and use of information.
▪ By using our Service, you understand and agree that we provide you with a
platform to post content, including photos, comments, and other materials
("User Content") on the Service and to share User Content publicly. This means
that other Users may search, view, use or share any User Content you make
public through the Service, subject to the terms and conditions of this Privacy
Policy and our Terms of Use (which you can find at
http://instagram.com/legal/terms).
▪ Our Policy applies to all visitors, users and others who access the Service
("Users").
1. INFORMATION COLLECTED
▪ If you wish, you may use our “Find Friends” feature to locate other people
who have an Instagram account, either through (i) your contact list, (ii) third-
party social media sites, or (iii) by searching for names and usernames on
Instagram.
▪ If you choose to search for your friends through (i) your device contact list,
Instagram will access your contact list to determine whether any of the people
associated with your contact use Instagram.
▪ If you choose to find your friends through a (ii) third-party social media site,
you will be asked to set up a link to the third-party service and be aware that
any information provided to us by such service will be governed by this Privacy
Policy.
▪ If you choose to search for your friends (iii) by searching for names or
usernames on Instagram, simply type in the name of the person you wish to
search for and we will perform the search on our Service.
▪ Note about the “Invite a Friends” feature: If you choose to invite someone to
the Service through our “Invite a Friends” feature, you can select a person
directly from your device's contact list and send a text message or email from
your personal account. You understand and agree that you are responsible for
any charges that apply to communications sent from your device, and because
this invitation comes directly from your personal account, Instagram has no
access to or control over this communication.
Analysis information:
▪ We use third-party analytics tools to help us measure traffic and usage
trends for the Service. These tools collect information sent by your device or our
Service, including the web pages you visit, plug-ins, and other information that
helps us improve the Service. We collect and use this analytics information with
analytics information from other Users, so it cannot reasonably be used to
identify any particular individual User.
We may also collect similar information from emails sent to our Users, which will
enable us to track which emails are opened by users and which links are clicked
by recipients. The information allows for better coverage and improvement of
the Service.
Device identifiers:
▪ When you use a mobile device, such as a tablet or phone, to access our
Service we may access, collect, monitor, store on the device and/or remotely
store one or more "device identifiers." Device identifiers are small data files or
similar data structures stored on or associated with a mobile device that
uniquely identify that mobile device. A device identifier may be data stored in
connection with the device hardware, data stored in connection with the device
operating system or other software, or data that Instagram sends to the device.
▪ A device identifier may provide us and other partners with information about
how you browse and use the Service and may help us or others provide reports
or personalized content and ads. Some features of the Service may not function
properly if the use or availability of device identifiers is disabled or deactivated.
Metadata:
▪ Metadata is typically technical data that is associated with User Content. For
example, metadata may describe how, when, and by whom a piece of User
Content was collected and how that content is formatted.
▪ Users may add or have metadata added to their User Content, including a
hashtag (for example, to tag keywords when posting a photo), a geotag (to tag
the location on a photo), comments, or other data. This allows your User
Content to be more interactive and more searchable for other users. By adding
a geotag to the photo or tagging it using third-party APIs, the latitude and
longitude of your location will be stored with the photo and will be searchable
(for example, using a location or map feature) if you post the photo in
accordance with your privacy settings.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We will not rent or sell the information you provide to us to third parties other
than Instagram (or the group of companies of which Instagram is a part) without
your consent, except as set forth in this Policy.
▪ Any information or content that you voluntarily disclose for posting on the
Service, such as User Content, becomes public and is controlled by the privacy
settings you set. To change your privacy settings for the Service, change your
profile settings. Once you have shared User Content or made it public, other
users may re-share that User Content.
▪ Depending on your profile and privacy settings, User Content you make
public may be searchable by other Users and is subject to usage in accordance
with the Instagram API. Use of the Instagram API is subject to the API Terms of
Use, which incorporate the terms of this Privacy Policy.
▪ If you delete information that you have posted to the Service, copies of the
information that have been cached and archived on the Service may continue to
be viewable, or may have been copied or stored by other Users or third parties
using the Instagram API.
6. PRIVACY OF MINORS
Instagram does not knowingly collect or solicit any information from users under
the age of 13 or knowingly allow such individuals to register for the Service. The
Service and its content are not intended for children under the age of 13. In the
event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child
under 13 years of age without parental consent, we will delete that information
as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or
about a child under 13 years of age, please contact us.
In the event of the death of an Instagram User, please contact us. We will
generally contact you by email if we require any further information, using the
email address you provide in your request.
9. HOW TO CONTACT US
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or the Service, please find
the appropriate support channel in the Help Center where you can contact us.
Instagram may modify or update this Privacy Policy from time to time, so we
encourage you to review it from time to time. We may offer you other methods
for notifying you of changes or updates, as appropriate under the
circumstances. Your continued use of Instagram or the Service after any
