Mr Phiri suddenly woke up because of the sound of the goats. He wondered whether Sckani his servant had forgotten to lock the door to the goats’ house. He thought that the goats were walking outside close to his bedroom, The noise was very loud. He pushed the curtain on the window end noticed that it was still dark. He quickly woke up from the bed, and went outside, He was surprised to see that the goats’ house was locked and that there was not even a single goat anywhere close by. He went closer to the side of the bedroom near a tree. About twenty metres from the bedroom, stood a hyena, He was terrified. He threw a stone at it, then another one and a third one. The hyena did not move. Seeing tla the hycna did not move even a single step, he ‘gave up and went back into the house. Just then, he saw ‘he hyena moving towards the road. He watched it until it disappeared into the nearby bush He went inside the house and looked at his watch. It was 3AM. He then remembered that sometime ago, in their village, his grandfather once told him that hyenas unlocked goats’ houses and killed them, Hyenes are known to be some of the animals with the strongest bite. He continued to say that hyenas move in clans with a leader known as the matriarch. This is usualy the oldest 1 of the clan. Most of the times hyenas like to Too' for already dead Is.
