CLASS IX CBSE QUESTION PAPER

TOTAL MARKS 40
Q1. Differentiate between distance and displacement. (2)
Q2. Draw a velocity versus time graph of a stone thrown vertically upwards
and then coming downwards after attaining the maximum height. (2)
Q3. With the help of a graph, derive three equation of motion. (6)
Q4. Obtain a relation for the distance travelled by an object moving with a
uniform acceleration in the interval between 4th and 5th seconds. (3)
Q5. Two stones are thrown vertically upwards simultaneously with their initial
velocities u1 and u2 respectively. Prove that the heights reached by them would
be in the ratio of u12:u22 (2)
Q6. How will the equations of motion for an object moving with a uniform
velocity change? (2)
Q7. What is the difference between uniform velocity and non-uniform
velocity? (2)
Q8. (i) How are the distances travelled by an object related to the time taken
when an object travels equal distances in equal intervals of time?
(ii) What would be acceleration of a body if its velocity-time graph is a line
parallel to the time axis?
(iii) Is the motion of a body uniform or accelerated if it goes round the sun
with constant speed in a circular orbit? (3)
Q9. The table given below shows distance (in cm) travelled by bodies A, B and
C. Read this data carefully and answer the following questions.

(i) Which of the bodies is moving with

(a) constant speed?
(b) constant acceleration?
(c) non-uniform acceleration?
(ii) Which of the bodies covers
(a) maximum distance in 3rd second?
(b) minimum distance in 3rd second? (3)
Q10. Define acceleration and state its SI unit. For motion along a straight line,
when do we consider the acceleration to be (i) positive (ii) negative? Give an
example of a body in uniform acceleration. (3)
Q11. Define uniform circular motion and give example of it. Why is it called
accelerated motion? (2)
Q12. A bus starting from rest moves with a uniform acceleration of 0.1 m s-2 for
2 minutes. Find (a) the speed acquired, (b) the distance travelled. (3)
Q13. A train is travelling at a speed of 90 km h-1 . Brakes are applied so as to
produce a uniform acceleration of –0.5 m s-2 . Find how far the train will go
before it is brought to rest. (2)
Q14. An athlete completes one round of a circular track of diameter 200 m in
40 s. What will be the distance covered and the displacement at the end of 2
minutes 20 s? (2)
Q15. A ball is gently dropped from a height of 20 m. If its velocity increases
uniformly at the rate of 10 m s-2, with what velocity will it strike the ground?
After what time will it strike the ground? (3)
Q16. A cheetah starts from, rest, and accelerates at 2 m/s2 for 10 seconds.
Calculate: (a) the final velocity, (b) the distance travelled. (3)
Q17. A body starts to slide over a horizontal surface with an initial velocity of
0.5 m/s. Due to friction, its velocity decreases at the rate of 0.05 m/s2. How
much time will it take for the body to stop. (3)
Q18. A car starts from rest and moves along the x-axis with constant
acceleration 5m/s2 for 8 seconds. If it then continues with constant velocity,
what distance will the car cover in 12 seconds since it started from the rest.(4)
