Course Objective:
1. To learn the concepts of vector differentiation.
2. To acquaint the knowledge of vector integration.
3. To introduce the concepts of analytic functions.
4. To acquaint the knowledge in mapping of complex functions.
5. To familiarize the concept of complex integration.

Unit I VECTOR CALCULUS 9


Gradient – Divergence – Curl – Directional derivative – Solenoidal – Irrotational vector
fields – Line Integral – Surface integrals.
Unit II INTEGRAL THEOREMS OF VECTOR CALCULUS 9

Green's theorem in a plane – Stoke’s Theorem – Gauss divergence theorem – Applications


involving cubes and parallelepiped.
Unit III ANALYTIC FUNCTIONS 9

Analytic Functions – Necessary and Sufficient conditions of Analytic Function–


Properties of Analytic function - Determination of Analytic Function using Milne
Thompson method – Applications to the problems of Potential Flow.
Unit IV MAPPING OF COMPLEX FUNCTIONS 9

Physical interpretation of mapping – Application of transformation: translation, rotation,


magnification and inversion of multi valued functions – Linear fractional Transformation
(Bilinear transformation).
Unit V INTEGRATION OF COMPLEX FUNCTIONS 9

Cauchy's Fundamental Theorem – Cauchy's Integral Formula – Taylor's and Laurent's


series – Classification of Singularities – Cauchy's Residue Theorem – Contour Integration.
Total : 45 Periods

Course Outcomes:
After completion of the course, the student will be able to
CO1 Determine the important quantities associated with vector fields such as
divergence, curl and scalar potential.
CO2 Apply the theoretical aspects of vector integral calculus in their core areas.
CO3 Construct the analytic functions and its applications.
CO4 Identify the complex functions and their mapping in certain complex planes.
CO5 Use the concepts of integration to complex functions in certain regions.
