Lesson 4: Backup and Restore

Backup and Restore is one of the technical advantages of Tally.ERP9 through which we can
create a safe copy of our date for easy accessing of data even if it is corrupted.
These options are available at “Company Info Menu”.

Backup: -
It means taking a copy of our data from its current working path to another alternate path regularly.

• Source: - Here we have to specify the path in which our data is exists at present.
• Destination: - Here we have to specify any required path in to which we want to take the backup
of our data.

Restore: -

It means re accessing of our data from its backup file in to any other required path when ever required.

• Destination:- Here we have to specify any required path in to which we want to restore our
company data from it’s backup

• Source: - Here we have to specify the path in which our data backup file is exists.

Note:
• At a time we can take the backup of any number of companies created in the same directory but
we can not take at a time backup of different companies created in the different directories.
• When we taking the backup of different companies at different times the destination path should
not be the same, if it is same then tally will overwrite the backup files.

Lesson 5: TALLY VAULT PASSWORD
By using the tally vault password option we can make our company data as encrypted.
This option is available at “Company Creation Screen”.

• For any company once password is specified then again we can not open that company with out
knowing the current password.
• The Tally Vault password is ,
o Case Sensitive (Lower letters / Upper Letters)
o Can consist any character ( Alphabets, Numeric and special characters)
• We can not change the password of a company from the Alter mode of a Company.
• So, if we want to “Change (or) Remove” the password of any existing company,

Select Company Press “Alt+F3” Select “Change Tally Vault” option

• Now, to change the current password into a new password, “specify the current password of
our company, and then specify the new password if any require and repeat the new password
given”.
• If we want to remove the password protection, then specify the current password and with out
specifying any new password we have to accept the screen.

Note: - For any company, if we change or remove the password then Tally will create a new copy of our
company with the new password change with out any change in the old company.
