ELECTRICAL CONDUITS & CONDUIT FITTINGS

An Electrical Conduit pipes are pipe/tube used as covering to

protect the electrical wires.
Electrical conduits are metal, plastic or fiber pipes designed
to protect electrical cables and wires. They’re used in just about
every residential and commercial establishment.
There are six types of electrical conduit pipes used in the
domestic wiring. They are,
 Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
 Electrical Nonmetallic Tubing (ENMT)
 Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC)
 Intermediate Metallic Conduit (IMC)
 Flexible Metal Conduit (FMC)
 Rigid PVC Conduit.

Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) – Thin Wall Conduit:

Steel-based durable enclosures that route individual electrical

wiring conductors in a building or structure and protect the wires
from impact, moisture, and chemical vapors.
It is lightweight, thinner, and easier to bend than rigid conduit.
Because it is metallic, it can handle physical abuse. It is used
wherever physical protection is needed.

◆ Material: Steel
◆ Finish: Galvanized
◆ Size: 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2”, 2”, 2-1/2”, 3” and 4”

Electrical Nonmetallic Tubing (ENMT)

Made of the same material as PVC, ENMT is resistant to moisture
and many atmospheric pollutants and is flame-retardant. Suitable
for above-ground use, it is easily bent by hand but cannot be
used where flexibility is needed, such as at motor terminations, to
prevent noise and vibration.

Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC)
Rigid conduit is like pipe with thick walls and ends with screw
threads.
Rigid metal conduit, or RMC, is heavy-duty galvanized steel tubing
that is installed with threaded fittings. It is typically used outdoors
to provide protection from damage and can also provide
structural support for electrical cables, panels, and other
equipment.

RMC is sold in 10- and 20-foot lengths and has threads on both
ends.
Intermediate Metallic Conduit (IMC)
This is a relatively new type of conduit with wall thickness less than
that of rigid metal conduit but greater than that of ENMT.
Intermediate metallic conduit (IMC) is a lightweight rigid steel
conduit that requires about 25% less steel than heavy-wall rigid
conduit.
It uses the same threading methods and standard fittings as rigid
metal conduit and has the same general application rules as rigid
metal conduit.

PVC Conduit System
PVC stands for Polyvinylchloride which is a tenacious chemically
resistant synthetic resin. It has been a widely used plastic material
to protect power in houses, telecommunications and utilities since
1932.
PVC flexible conduit is extremely versatile and has been used in
many industrial and commercial environment and it also used for
the mechanical protection of the wire in many places.

For electrical purpose Conduit pipes is made of UPVC

(Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) to meet the harsh environments.
