Redevelopment and Site Development Plan for the Elementary Department Area
The redevelopment of the elementary department area focuses on addressing the inefficiencies and underutilization of the
existing site while enhancing functionality, aesthetics, and comfort. The scope of this plan includes the elementary
department building, the canteen, playground, gazebo, and surrounding open spaces.
1. Open Spaces: Open spaces near pathways and the building are not functional, with random landscaping that
neither serves practical purposes nor enhances the aesthetic quality of the site.
2. Handwashing Facility: A sink for handwashing is located near a pathway in an arbitrary manner, disrupting the
site's organization.
3. Utility Areas: Utilities such as the electrical utility area, sewer, and water treatment facilities are located near the
canteen and are visible due to the open design of the canteen. This negatively affects the views and detracts from
the overall ambiance.
4. Dining Space Deficiency: The canteen has inadequate seating to accommodate students, parents, staff, and
faculty members. This lack often forces people to either eat inside classrooms, leave campus, or crowd into
existing dining areas, leading to congestion and inconvenience.
5. Gazebo Capacity: The existing gazebo near the elementary building is too small to accommodate the number of
parents and students waiting during class dismissal times.
6. Lack of Quiet Spaces: There are no dedicated areas for students and staff to relax, think, or work quietly, which
limits opportunities for stress relief and mental breaks.
7. Playground Limitations: The current playground lacks engaging and updated equipment, while its surrounding
space is poorly utilized.
2. Additional Gazebo: A second gazebo has been added near the existing one, connected via a pathway that ensures
accessibility for all, including persons with disabilities (PWDs). This new gazebo helps accommodate the overflow of
parents and students, providing ample space for waiting or relaxing.
3. Extended Outdoor Dining Areas: The canteen’s dining space has been extended with the addition of 11 plastic dining
tables and 4 smaller tables, surrounded by greenery. The outdoor dining area features concrete flooring, a pathway for
accessibility, and "Lawnch" a unique grass field dining space with concrete circular tables but no chairs. This space
encourages students to bond and dine in a casual and comfortable setting inspired by outdoor gatherings. Native
flowering trees, such as Banaba and Bauhinia, are planted around the area to act as dividers, enhance airflow, and hide
the utility areas from view.
4. Improved Playground with Quiet Zone: The playground has been renovated with additional swings, monkey bars,
and an expanded play area. Steel benches have been added for parents to comfortably supervise their children. The
unused open space at the back of the playground has been converted into a quiet zone with four plastic tables and seats,
designed as a secluded area for eating, working, or relaxing away from noisy spaces.
5. Integration of Native Plants: The greeneries in the redevelopment plan prioritize native Philippine plants for both
environmental and cultural significance:
● Banaba Tree: Known for its pink to red flowers, the Banaba tree enhances aesthetics and represents local flora.
● Bauhinia Tree: A flowering tree that adds vibrant pink and red hues, ideal for dividing seating areas and utility
zones.
● Ilang-Ilang Tree: With its yellow flowers, it boosts aesthetic appeal and provides shade.
● Santan Shrub: A low-growing shrub with red flowers, reflecting the university’s official colors, is used along
pathways and near the canteen.
● Dama de Noche: A fragrant shrub planted near catch basins and seating areas to improve air quality and create
a pleasant sensory experience.
● Bani Tree: Known for its wide natural canopy and minimal ground space requirement, it is ideal for shading
seating areas.
