CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

Intended Use
The Health o meter® Professional 522KL/522KG/524KL/524KG scale is intended to be used in a professional
medical environment by trained medical staff. This product was designed to weigh infants that are laying or
sitting on the tray or seat. The intended use of the included measuring tape is to measure patient length. Do not
modify the product or use it for anything other than its intended purpose.

To prevent injury and damage to your scale, please follow these instructions very carefully.
• Assemble and operate the scale per the enclosed user instructions.
• For accurate weighing, this scale must be placed on a flat, stable surface.
• For accurate weighing, verify before each use the proper operation according to the procedure
described in this manual.
• Do not transport the scale with a patient or object on the tray/seat
• Do not exceed the weight capacity specified for this scale.
• Do not use in the presence of flammable or explosive materials.
• Ensure that the scale or AC adapter do not come in contact with liquids, excessive temperature, or
excessive humidity.
• If the scale becomes damaged, it should not be operated until properly serviced.

Patient/caregiver safety
• This scale is designed for static weighing of patients only. No scale should be used for patient
transfer.
• To prevent patient injury, the patient must be attended throughout the entire weighing event.
• Patient should wear lightweight covering or a paper tray liner should be used during weighing event.

When operating the scale with batteries:

• If the “LO” indicator activates, replace the batteries or switch to the AC adapter as soon as possible.
• When replacing / inserting batteries, be sure to use all new batteries.

When operating the scale with the (optional) AC adapter:

• Operate this scale exclusively with the AC adapter provided by Health o meter Professional. Use of
an unspecified adapter will void the warranty, and can pose a serious safety hazard.
• For use with AC adapter models noted on the next page (not included)
• Prior to using this scale, inspect the AC adapter cord for cracking / fraying, or for broken / bent plug
prongs.
• Prior to using this scale, ensure that the AC adapter is plugged into an outlet with the rated voltage
appropriate for operation.
• Ensure that the AC adapter outlet is wired to a circuit breaker or other protected power source.
• Unplug the AC adapter, and carefully store both the adapter and adapter cord before moving the
scale.
• Operating this scale at voltages and frequencies other than specified can damage the equipment
and will void the warranty.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the EMC limits for the Medical Device
Standards EN 60601-1-2. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a typical medical installation. The equipment generates, uses and may radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with these instructions, may cause harmful
interference to other devices in the vicinity. There is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference with other devices, which can be
determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to eliminate the
interference by one or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving device.
• Increase the separation between the equipment.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the other device(s) is
connected.
• Consult Customer Service or a field service technician for help.

In no event shall Pelstar, LLC be liable for damages or injuries arising out of or connected with the
assembly, use, or misuse of this product.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Before Assembly

Each 522KL/522KG/524KL/524KG Digital Pediatric scale is shipped disassembled in one

carton. Carefully inspect the carton for shipping damage before unpacking. If damage is found,
contact your shipper or a Health o meter® Professional representative immediately at 1-800-
815-6615. Claims must be filed with the shipper as soon as possible after receipt of the
package. The following information details what you will find inside the main carton as you
unpack the parts for assembly.
To prevent scratching any components, carefully remove each assembly from the carton and
unwrap the packing materials. Set the carton aside for storage. To avoid damaging the scale
parts when unpacking, do not use a box cutter, knife, scissors, or any sharp object to open the
protective inner packaging.

1. Carefully remove the contents of the Screws and washers
carton and place each part on a flat,
level, and dry surface. Remove the
4 column mounting screws and
washers from the bottom of column
and set aside for assembly step 5.

2. Remove the black adapter bracket

from scale platform. Place the
bracket on the bottom of the column
with the adapter jack arrow sticker
pointing towards the front of the
column.

3. Place the scale platform on its side

and place the column on its side,
perpendicular to the platform. The
front of the display head on the
column should be facing forward
and above the scale platform.

4. Locate the load cell connector cable

inside the column and pull gently
until the plug reaches the bottom of
the column. Carefully pull the cable
connector from the bottom of the
column and plug into the RJ jack on
the scale platform. Caution: Once
connected, keep a firm grip on the
column to ensure the load cell
connector cable is not pulled out
from the RJ jack. This cable RJ Jack
connects the load cells to the
display head and must be entirely
plugged in for the scale to
function properly.
5. Position and secure the column to
the scale platform. Locate the 4
column mounting screws previously
removed in step 1. Insert the 4
screws through the bottom of the
scale platform screw holes and into
the column. Ensure that washers
are located between the screw
heads and the scale platform screw
holes. Using a Phillips head
screwdriver, tighten the screws to
secure the column to the base of the
platform.

6. Locate the 2 M6 x 16mm screws
included in the clear plastic bag. Align
the 2 holes in the tray with the
mounting holes on the scale platform.
Insert the screws and tighten to attach
the tray to the scale platform.

7. Obtain the circular adhesive screw

covers and place onto the screw cap
on the tray.

8. Obtain the measuring tape and remove

the adhesive backing. Affix the
measuring tape to the bottom or side of
tray.

524KL/524KG NEXT STEPS

9. Locate the two black seat mounting
brackets in the carton. Unscrew and
remove the black knobs on the
mounting brackets. Note: The
brackets are marked as bracket C and
bracket D. The tabs on bracket C are
shorter than bracket D.
10. Obtain the four M6 x 16mm screws
included in the clear plastic bag. Align
the holes in the tabs of the mounting
brackets with the holes in the
platform. Insert the screws through
the brackets and into the platform.
Using a Phillips head screwdriver,
tighten the screws to secure both
brackets to the platform.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that bracket C Bracket C
is mounted on the edge of the
platform, not the side of the platform
next to the scale pillar.
11. Place the seat onto mounting brackets
by aligning the notches on the seat
with the pegs on the mounting
brackets.

12. Locate the black knobs previously

removed in step 6. Insert the knobs
through the holes in the side of the
seat and into the mounting brackets.
Turn clockwise to completely tighten
the knobs and secure the seat onto
the mounting brackets. Scale
assembly is now complete.

POWERING THE SCALE

Powering the Scale – Inserting Batteries
1. With a Phillips head screwdriver remove the screw from the battery compartment cover
located on the back of the display. Remove the battery cover by pressing downward on the
locking tab. Locking tab

1. Replace or install 6 new AA batteries. Health o meter® Professional recommends using an

alkaline or lithium battery, rated for 130°F (54°C) operation. Do not use zinc-carbon
batteries.
2. Re-attach the battery cover to the display assembly.
3. Ensure all objects are removed from the scale’s platform, and then press the button to
turn the scale on. The display will show a version number, followed by dashes, then “0.0”.
LB (Pounds) is the default weight measuring unit upon initial set-up/assembly. Press the
UNIT button to select your desired weight mode (LB or KG). (KL versions only)
Note: If “LoBat” appears on the display, it indicates that the battery power is low. It does NOT
indicate a problem with the weight measurement.
Warning: If the scale will not be used for some time, remove the batteries to avoid a
safety hazard. Disposal of batteries must be performed in accordance with the prevailing
national, regional or local regulations that apply to you.

Optional AC Adapter
1. Connect the AC adapter (not included) into the adapter jack on the scale platform.
Warning: To avoid a safety hazard, use only a Health o meter® Professional AC adapter.

2. Plug the scale’s AC adapter into the power source/wall outlet. Caution: Always plug the AC
adapter into the scale first, then into the power source/wall outlet.
3. When the AC adapter is disconnected from the scale, the scale will switch to battery power if
batteries are installed.
Note: If the set up procedure fails, refer to the troubleshooting instructions. If the problem is not
corrected, refer to qualified service personnel.

Power Source Icons

AC Icon: The AC icon will display when the scale is being powered by the AC adapter.
Battery Icon:
1. The battery icon will display when the scale is being powered by batteries.
2. The battery icon indicates the level of battery power remaining.
When all three segments are full, this indicates full battery power.
3. If the battery icon is empty, replace the batteries. If the batteries are completely
depleted the display will flash “LoBat” and the scale will power off.

SET UP INSTRUCTIONS
To enter the Options mode, push and hold the UNIT button while pressing and releasing
the button.

Auto Off Function

When powering the scale via the AC adapter, the display can be set to power off after a
period of inactivity. The Auto Off default setting is “disabled”. Follow this procedure to
enable or disable the Auto Off function. Note: When powering the scale via batteries, the
Auto Off function is automatically enabled.

Enable / Disable Auto Off

1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Press the UNIT button again to change the setting.
AOF=d Disables the Auto Off function
AOF=E Enables the Auto Off function
2. Press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and exit the Options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.

Setting Auto Off Time

When powering the scale via batteries or if Auto Off is Enabled for the AC adapter, the period
of inactivity before the scale powers off can be set to a specific amount of time. The default
setting for Auto Off time is 2 minutes. Follow this procedure to set the number of minutes of
inactivity before power off.
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE to advance or the button to scroll back the display
screen until “AFt” appears. Press the UNIT button to change the Auto Off time.
AFt = 1 Scale will power off after 1 minute of inactivity
AFt = 2 Scale will power off after 2 minutes of inactivity
AFt = 3 Scale will power off after 3 minutes of inactivity
2. Choose the setting you prefer and press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and
exit the Options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.

Auto Hold
The Auto Hold function allows the scale to continue displaying the weight measurement after
the patient is removed from the weighing tray/seat. The Auto Hold setting can be adjusted to
display the weight for 0, 30, or 60 seconds. The default setting is 30 seconds. Follow this
procedure to adjust the Auto Hold setting.
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE to advance or the ON/OFF button to scroll back the
display screen until “AHd” appears. Press UNIT to change the setting.
AHd = 0 Weight measurement will not be held on the display after the patient is removed
AHd = 1 Weight measurement will hold on the display for 30 seconds
AHd = 2 Weight measurement will hold on the display for 60 seconds
2. Choose the setting you prefer and press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and exit
the Options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and then
dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.

Setting Sound Options
The display can be set to stay silent or beep while operating the scale. The default setting
for Sound is “enabled”. Follow this procedure to enable or disable sound.
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE to advance or the button to scroll back the display
screen until “Snd” appears. Press the UNIT button to change the setting.
Snd = E Enables sound so the scale beeps when keys are pressed.
Snd = d Disables sound so the scale stays silent when keys are pressed.
2. Choose the setting you prefer and press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and
exit the options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.
Locking Unit of Measure (LB or KG) (KL versions only)
The weight measuring unit (pounds / LB or kilograms / KG) can be locked to display weight
only in the selected unit of measure. The unit of measure lock default setting is “unlocked”.
Follow this procedure to lock the UNIT button. Note: If Everlock® is engaged, this feature will
not appear in the Options mode.
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE to advance or the button to scroll back the display
screen until “Unt” appears. Press the UNIT button to change the setting.
Unt = U Allows the user to toggle weight measurement between LB and KG.
Unt = L Locks the unit button so weight is only displayed in pounds (LB)
Unt = ├ Locks the unit button so weight is only displayed in kilograms (KG)
2. Choose the setting you prefer and press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and
exit the options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.
Enabling Unit View with Unit of Measure Locked
If the scale is locked per the instructions above, users can still view the alternate weight
measuring unit by enabling the “Unit View” option. Enabling the “Unit View” option allows the
user to press the UNIT button to briefly display the weight in the alternate weight measuring
unit. After releasing the UNIT button the display will return to the locked weight measuring
unit. The “Unit View” default setting is “Disable”. Follow this procedure to enable “Unit View”
when the weight measuring unit is locked. Note: If Everlock® is enabled, this feature will not
appear in the Options mode.
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE button to advance or the button to scroll back the
display screen until “UdP” appears. Press the UNIT button to change the setting.
UdP = d Disables the UNIT button so it will not display the other weight measuring
unit.
UdP = E Allows the user to view the other weight measuring unit by holding down the
UNIT button even if the weight measuring unit is locked. Enabling this
function will only allow the user to view the other unit while pressing the UNIT
button; it will not unlock the weight measuring unit.
2. Choose the setting you prefer and press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and
exit the Options mode.
3. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.

Everlock® (KL versions only)
The Everlock® feature allows the measuring unit to be permanently locked on the scale, disabling
the UNIT button. The Everlock® default setting is “disabled”. Follow this procedure to engage
Everlock®.
Warning: This lock is permanent and cannot be reversed.

Notes:
• Press HOLD/RELEASE at any time to exit the Everlock® procedure.
• Once Everlock® is engaged the Unt and UdP options will no longer be displayed when
scrolling through the Options menu.
• There is no method to undo Everlock® without sending the scale back to the manufacturer.

1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the UNIT button then press and release the
button. Hold the UNIT button until “AOF=d” or “AOF=E” appears on the display, then
release. Use the ZERO/TARE to advance or the button to scroll back the display screen
until “ELC” appears. Press the UNIT button to change the setting.
ELC =d Default setting with Everlock® disabled.
ELC = E Engages Everlock®. Once this option is selected, the display will prompt you to
begin the locking procedure. If this is desired, follow the instructions below.
2. After Everlock® is selected, “PASS1” will appear on the display. This prompts the user to
enter a password. Press the following keys in this sequence:
, , ZERO/TARE, UNIT
3. If entered correctly, “ELC=L” (if scale was in LB mode) or “ELC=6” (if scale was in KG mode)
will appear on the display.
4. Use the UNIT to toggle between (L) Pounds and (6) Kilograms. When the desired unit is
displayed, press HOLD/RELEASE and “PASS2” will appear on the display.
5. This will prompt the user to enter the second password. Press the following keys in this
sequence:
ZERO/TARE, UNIT,
6. If entered correctly, the scale will display “ELC = E”.
7. Press HOLD/RELEASE to save your selection and exit the options mode.
8. The scale will restart. The display will show “UEr”, followed by a version number, and
then dashes. When the display shows “0.0” the scale is ready to use.

Warning: Do not power off the scale until HOLD/RELEASE is pressed to save the
Everlock option, the scale has restarted and the display has returned to “0.0”.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Function Description
Turns scale on and off. Also used when entering Calibration or Options
mode.
ZERO/TARE Zeroes out or tares the scale prior to a weighing.
522KL/524KL: Toggles between pounds (LB) and kilograms (KG). If
weight measurement unit is locked, press and hold UNIT button to display
UNIT other weight measurement unit. Note: Weight measurement will not
toggle on 522KG/524KG or if Everlock® is engaged. Also used to entering
Calibration or Options mode.
Holds the displayed weight until the button is pressed again to release the
HOLD/RELEASE
value.

Screen Icons
Icon Description
Indicates scale is being powered by batteries. Also indicates level of battery
power remaining.
AC Indicates scale is being powered by AC adapter.
ZERO Displays along with dashes when scale is zeroing.
Flashes during weighing process. Stays displayed while weight measurement
LOCK
is locked.
OVERLOAD Displays when weight on the scale exceeds capacity.
LB Indicates weight mode is in pounds.
OZ Indicates weight mode is in pounds.
KG Indicates weight mode is in kilograms.
Displayed when a weight is held or recalled after pressing the

Weighing a Patient
Note: When this scale is turned on, it will always default to the settings and units last used (LB
or KG). The scale will not lock on a weight less than 5 lb / 2.27 kg.
1. Make sure there is nothing on the weighing tray. Press to power on the scale. The scale
is ready for use when “0” appears on the display.
2. Place the baby on the scale so that its weight is evenly distributed. “LOCK” will appear and
flash on the display along with a weight measurement. When a stable weight is determined
“LOCK” will stay displayed along with the patient’s weight. Depending on the movement of
the patient on the scale, it may take several seconds for the scale to lock onto the weight.
Caution: To prevent patient injury, the patient must be attended throughout the entire
weighing event.
3. To see the patient’s weight in another unit of measurement, press and hold UNIT. If the
scale is in LB mode, it will convert the weight to KG. If the scale is in KG mode, it will convert
the weight to LB. Note: This function is not available on KG models or on KL models with
Everlock® engaged or with the “Unit View” setting disabled. Note: “Unit View” is only
available when the patient is still on the scale, it does not work during Auto Hold.
4. Remove the baby from the scale. The weight will be held on the display for a period of time if
the Auto Hold setting is enabled. The weight can also be held by pressing HOLD/RELEASE.
To clear a held weight, press HOLD/RELEASE.
5. After the weight measurement has been taken and is recorded, remove the patient from the
scale. Or press the button to reweigh the patient without removing them from the scale.
6. To power off the scale, press and hold for approximately three seconds.
Note: If the display shows “Err” you have exceeded the capacity of the scale.
Note: If “Lo” appears on the display, it indicates that the battery power is low. It does NOT
indicate a problem with the weight measurement.
Weight Recall
1. To recall the last weight measured, press HOLD/RELEASE.
2. To clear the display of the recalled weight, press HOLD/RELEASE again.
Zero Function
Zeroes the scale prior to a weight measurement. The ZERO/TARE button is also used in the
Tare function outlined below.
Tare Function
When using this scale, the weight of an object, such as a portable oxygen tank, can be
subtracted from the total weight in order to determine the weight of the patient alone.

Weighing a Patient and Taring an Unknown Weight:

The minimum weight that can be tared is 5 lb / 2.27 kg. Note: The scale must lock onto a weight
before it can be tared.
1. Make sure there is nothing on the weighing tray. Press to power on the scale. The scale
is ready for use when “0” appears on the display.
2. Place the object to be tared on the scale. The display will show a value for the object’s
weight.
3. Press ZERO/TARE. The word “TARE” will appear on the display, and the scale will return to
zero.
4. Keep the object on the platform and place the baby on the scale. The scale will
automatically deduct the weight of the object and only display the patient’s weight.
5. When you remove the patient and the item from the tray, a negative value will show on the
display. Press ZERO/TARE to clear the tared value.

Weighing a Patient and Taring a Known Weight (Pre-Tare):
Pre-Tare can be performed for items between 0.2 lb and 5 lb (0.1 kg and 2.2 kg).
1. Make sure there is nothing on the weighing tray. Press to power on the scale. The scale
is ready for use when “0” appears on the display.
2. Press and hold ZERO/TARE until the word “TARE” appears on the display.
3. The tare icon will flash along with “0.0” LB or “0.0” KG prompting you to enter the weight to
be tared. Use the and ZERO/TARE buttons to increase or decrease the weight. Pounds
will change in 0.2 lb increments and KG will change in 0.1 kg increments.
4. Once the desired tare value is set, lock the value by pressing HOLD/RELEASE. The tare
icon will stop flashing and remain on, and the entered amount will show as a negative.
5. Weigh the patient following the weighing procedure outlined on the previous page. The scale
will automatically deduct the tare value and only display the patient’s weight.
6. To clear the tare value, press the ZERO/TARE button.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

Maintenance
The following pages provide instructions for maintenance, cleaning, calibrating, and
troubleshooting of your scale. Maintenance operations other than those described in this
manual should be performed by qualified service personnel.
Caution: Before first use, or after long periods of non-use, check the scale for proper
operation and function. If the scale does not operate correctly, refer to qualified service
personnel.
1. Check overall appearance of the total scale for any obvious damage, wear, and tear.
2. Inspect the AC adapter cord for cracking or fraying, or for broken/bent prongs.

Note: This scale is an extremely sensitive weighing device. If the auto-off function is disabled,
battery power will be consumed.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Proper care and cleaning is essential to ensure a long life of accurate and effective weighing.

Caution: Disconnect the scale from the AC adapter power source prior to cleaning the
unit.

1. Health o meter® Professional recommends using one of the following solutions on a soft
cloth or disposable wipe:
● mild soap and water solution
● 70% isopropyl alcohol
● solution with 1-5% hydrogen peroxide concentration
After cleaning/disinfecting, wipe with a cloth dampened with water and then with a clean dry
cloth. To avoid residue build-up or damp surfaces, ensure the screen and scale parts are
completely dry after cleaning.
2. Never use rough or abrasive materials to clean the scale, as these will damage the scale’s
finish.
3. Do not submerge the scale in water or any other liquid.
4. Do not pour or spray fluids directly on the scale.

Replacement parts may be available if a piece of the scale needs to be replaced. Contact Health o

CALIBRATION
Calibration
Your scale has been factory calibrated and does not require calibration prior to use.
There are no requirements for calibration in the field; users should adhere to their
institution’s calibration policies. If required, the scale can be calibrated. A 5kg weight is
required for calibration. If the scale is Everlocked into pounds, the calibration procedure
will still require use of a 5kg weight.
Note: Avoid scale placement near heating/cooling vents, heating appliances,
areas of high airflow or direct sunlight. Calibration must be done in a controlled
environment.

Note: Only weights certified and traceable to national standards should be used
for calibration procedures.
1. Press and hold the ZERO/TARE and UNIT buttons at the same time, then press and
release the button to power on the scale. Remain pressing ZERO/TARE and
UNIT buttons until “CAL” appears on the display. Release all buttons.
2. Once the buttons are released the following message will display, “CAL99”, “CAL98”
etc., until the display counts down to zero. This allows the load cells time to settle
before calibration starts. The HOLD/RELEASE button can be pressed at any time to
cancel the countdown, however this is not recommended.
3. Once the time has elapsed, “2Ero SCALE” will scroll horizontally across the screen.
With no weight on the scale, press the ZERO/TARE button.
4. The scale will zero and “PLACE 5 ON SCALE PrESS HOLd” will scroll across the
screen.
5. Place a certified 5kg weight on the center of the weighing tray/seat, then press
HOLD/RELEASE. “CAL” will flash on the screen while the scale is calibrating.
A. If the weight is within calibration range, a five digit number will be displayed for
approximately 5 seconds then display the calibration weight. Remove the weight
from the scale and the scale will restart.

B. If the weight placed on the scale does not match the correct calibration standard
(5 kg), “Out OF RANGE” will appear on the display. Calibration is not performed.
Press UNIT to exit calibration mode. Obtain the correct amount of calibration
weight and begin the calibration process again.

Limited Warranty
What does the Warranty Cover?
This Health o meter® Professional scale is warranted from date of purchase against defects of materials or in
workmanship for a period of two (2) years. If product fails to function properly, return the product, freight prepaid and
properly packed to Pelstar, LLC (see “To Get Warranty Service”, below, for instructions). If the manufacturer determines
that a defect of material or in workmanship exists, the customer’s sole remedy will be replacement of the scale at no
charge. Replacement will be made with a new or remanufactured product or component. If the product is no longer
available, replacement may be made with a similar product of equal or greater value. All replaced parts are covered only
for the original warranty period.
Who is Covered?
The original purchaser of the product must have proof of purchase to receive warranty service. Please save your invoice
or receipt. Pelstar dealers or retail stores selling Pelstar products do not have the right to alter, or modify or in any way
change the terms and conditions of this warranty.
What is Excluded?
Your warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage resulting from any of the following: negligent use or
misuse of the product, use on improper voltage or current, use contrary to the operating instructions, abuse including
tampering, damage in transit, or unauthorized repair or alternations. Further, the warranty does not cover natural
disasters, such as fire, flood, hurricanes and tornadoes. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also
have other rights that vary from country to country, state to state, province to province or jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
To get Warranty Service make sure you keep your sales receipt or document showing proof of purchase. Call (+1)

PRECAUCIONES Y ADVERTENCIAS
USO PREVISTO
Esta báscula Health o meter® Professional fue diseñada para ser utilizada en un entorno médico profesional y por
personal médico capacitado. Este producto fue diseñado para pesar bebés acostados o sentados en la bandeja. No
modifique el producto ni lo utilice para ningún otro fin distinto al indicado.

Para evitar lesiones al paciente y daños a su báscula, por favor siga muy atentamente las siguientes
instrucciones.
• Arme y opere la báscula según las instrucciones del manual de usuario adjunto.
• Para garantizar un pesaje preciso, coloque esta báscula en una superficie plana y estable.
• Para garantizar un pesaje preciso, verifique el correcto funcionamiento de la báscula antes de utilizarla,
conforme al procedimiento descrito en este manual.

INSTRUCCIONES DE ENSEMBLADO
Antes del ensemblado

Cada báscula pediátrica digital 522KL/522KG/524KL/524KG se envía desarmada en una caja

de cartón. Inspeccione cuidadosamente la caja de cartón para verificar que no existan daños de
envío antes de desempacar la báscula. Si encuentra daños, comuníquese con su remitente o
con un representante de Health o meter® Professional de inmediato al número 1-800-815-
6615. Las reclamaciones deben presentarse ante el remitente lo antes posible después de
recibir el paquete. La siguiente información detalla lo que encontrará dentro de la caja principal
a medida que desempaca las piezas para el armado.
Para evitar que se raye cualquier componente, retire ciudadosamente cada conjunto de la caja

INSTRUCCIONES DE ARMADO (CONTINUACIÓN)

1. Retire cuidadosamente el contenido de la caja Tornillos y rondanas
y coloque cada parte sobre una superficie
plana, nivelada y seca. Retire los 4 tornillos y
rondanas de montaje de la columna de la
parte inferior de la misma y póngalos a un
lado para el paso 5 del armado.

2. Retire el soporte adaptador negro de la

plataforma de la báscula. Coloque el soporte
en la parte inferior de la columna con la flecha
de la etiqueta del adaptador apuntando hacia
el frente de la columna.

3. Coloque la plataforma de la báscula de

costado y coloque la columna de costado,
perpendicular a la plataforma. El frente del
cabezal de la pantalla en la columna debe
mirar hacia adelante y por encima de la
plataforma de la báscula.

4. Localice el cable conector de la celda de

carga dentro de la columna y tire suavemente
hasta que el enchufe llegue al fondo de la
columna. Tire cuidadosamente del conector
del cable desde la parte inferior de la columna
y enchúfelo al conector RJ en la plataforma de
la báscula. Precaución: Una vez conectado,
sostenga firmemente las columnas para
asegurarse de que el cable conector de la
celda de carga no se desenchufe del

6. Localice los 2 tornillos M6 x 16 mm incluidos

8. Tome la cinta métrica y retire la cara

adhesiva. Fije la cinta métrica en la parte
inferior o lateral de la bandeja.

asiento negro en la caja. Desatornille y quite
las perillas negras de los soportes de montaje.

10. Tome los cuatro tornillos M6 x 16 mm incluidos
en la bolsa de plástico transparente. Alinee los
agujeros en las pestañas de los soportes de
montaje con los agujeros en la plataforma.
Inserte los tornillos a través de los soportes y
hacia adentro de la plataforma. Con un
desarmador Phillips, apriete los tornillos para
fijar ambos soportes a la plataforma. Soporte
IMPORTANTE: Asegúrese de que el soporte C
esté montado en el borde de la plataforma, no
en el costado de la plataforma junto al pilar de
la báscula.
11. Coloque el asiento en los soportes de montaje
alineando las muescas del asiento con los
pernos en los soportes de montaje.

12. Localice las perillas negras que retiró

anteriormente en el paso 6. Inserte las perillas
a través de los agujeros en el costado del
asiento y en los soportes de montaje. Gire en
el sentido de las agujas del reloj para apretar
completamente las perillas y asegure el
asiento en los soportes de montaje. La báscula
se encuentra ahora completamente armada.

ENCENDIDO DE LA BÁSCULA
Encendido de la Báscula – Insertar las Baterías
1. Con un destornillador de cruz, remueva el tornillo del compartimiento de las baterías
ubicado en la parte posterior de la pantalla. Retire la cubierta de las baterías presionando
hacia abajo la pestaña de sujeción.

2. Substituya o instale 6 baterías nuevas AA. Health o meter® Professional recomienda usar
baterías alcalinas o de litio, con especificación para operar a 130°F (54°C). No utilice
baterías de cinc-carbón.
3. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta de las baterías al cabezal de display.
4. Asegúrese de que todos los objetos son retirados de la plataforma de la báscula, y luego
presione el botón para encender la báscula. La pantalla mostrará un número de versión,
seguido de guiones, y luego "0.0". LB (Libras) es la unidad de medición de peso
predeterminada tras la configuración/ensamblaje inicial. Pulse el botón UNIT para
seleccionar el modo de peso deseado (LB o KG). (500KL solamente)
Nota: Si aparece “LoBat” en la pantalla, esto indica que la batería está baja. No indica un

Adaptador de CA opcional
1. Conecte el adaptador de AC (no incluido) en el enchufe del adaptador en la plataforma de la
báscula.
Advertencia: Para evitar riesgos de seguridad, use solo un adaptador de CA Health o meter ®
Professional.

2. Conecte el adaptador de CA de la báscula a la fuente de alimentación/toma de corriente.

Precaución: siempre conecte primero el adaptador de CA a la báscula y luego a la fuente de
alimentación/toma de corriente.
3. Al desconectar el adaptador de CA de la báscula, ésta cambiará a alimentación por medio de la
baterías instaladas.
Nota: En caso de que el procedimiento de configuración falle, consulte las instrucciones de solución
de problemas. Si el problema no se corrige, consulte al personal de servicio calificado.

Íconos de la Fuente de Energía

Ícono de AC: El ícono de AC se mostrará cuando la báscula reciba energía del adaptador AC.
Ícono de Batería:
1. El ícono de batería se mostrará cuando la báscula reciba energía de las baterías.
2. El ícono de batería indica el nivel restante de batería. Cuando los tres segmentos están
llenos, esto indica batería completa.
3. Si el ícono de batería aparece vacío, reemplace las baterías. Si las baterías están
completamente vacías, la pantalla destellará "LoBat" y la báscula se apagará.

Función Auto-Apagado
Al hacer funcionar la báscula con el adaptador AC, la pantalla puede ser programada para
apagarse luego de un periodo de inactividad. La programación de Auto-Apagado por defecto es
“deshabilitado”. Siga este procedimiento para habilitar o deshabilitar la función de Auto-
Apagado. Nota: Al accionar la báscula con baterías, la función de Auto-Apagado se activa
automáticamente.
Habilitar / Deshabilitar Auto-Apagado
1. Con la báscula apagada, presione y sostenga el botón UNIT y luego presione y libere
. Sostenga UNIT hasta que “AOF” aparezca en la pantalla, luego libere. Presione UNIT
otra vez para cambiar el ajuste.
AOF=d Desactiva la función de Auto-Apagado

Fijar Tiempo de Auto-Apagado

Cuando se enciende la báscula usando baterías o si está activado Auto-Apagado para el
adaptador AC, el periodo de inactividad antes de que la báscula se apague puede ser establecido
como una cierta cantidad de tiempo. El tiempo por defecto para Auto-Apagado es de 2 minutos.
Siga este procedimiento para fijar el número de minutos de inactividad antes del apagado.

ajustarse para que el peso continúe mostrándose durante 0, 30 o 60 segundos. La
configuración predeterminada es de 30 segundos. Siga este procedimiento para ajustar la
configuración de la Retención automática.
1. Con la báscula apagada, mantenga presionado UNIT y presione y suelte el botón .
Mantenga presionado UNIT hasta que la pantalla muestre el mensaje “AOF=d” o “AOF=E,
entonces suelte el botón. Utilice el botón ZERO/TARE para avanzar o el botón para

Fijar Opciones de Sonido
La visualización se puede programar a modo silencioso o de sonido cuando se opera la
báscula. La opción por defecto para el Sonido es “habilitado”. Siga este procedimiento para
habilitar o desactivar el sonido.
1. Con la báscula apagada, presione y sostenga el botón UNIT y luego presione y libere
. Sostenga UNIT hasta que “AOF= d” o “AOF=E” aparezca en la pantalla, luego libere.

Bloqueo de la Unidad de Medición (LB o KG) (Solo versiones KL)

unidad de medición alterna habilitando la opción “Visualizar Unidad”. Habilitar la opción de
visualización de la unidad, “Unit View”, permite al usuario presionar el botón UNIT para mostrar
brevemente el peso en la unidad de medición de peso alterna. Luego de liberar el botón UNIT la
visualización regresará a la unidad de medición bloqueada. El ajuste por defecto para “Unit
View” es “Deshabilitado”. Siga este procedimiento para habilitar “Unit View” cuando la unidad de
medición de peso esté bloqueada. Nota: Si Everlock® está activado, esta característica no
aparecerá en el modo de Opciones.

desbloqueará la unidad de medición del peso.

Everlock®
La función Everlock® permite que la unidad de medición quede permanentemente bloqueada en
la báscula, deshabilitando el botón UNIT. El ajuste por defecto para Everlock® es “deshabilitado”.
Siga este procedimiento para activar Everlock®.
Advertencia: Este candado es permanente y no puede ser revertido.
Notas:
• Presione HOLD/RELEASE n cualquier momento para abandonar el procedimiento para
Everlock®.
• Una vez que Everlock® está activo, las opciones Unt y UdP no se mostrarán al desplazarse
por el menú de Opciones.
• No hay método para revertir Everlock® sin enviar la báscula de vuelta al fabricante.
1. Con la báscula apagada, presione y sostenga el botón UNIT y luego presione y libere .
Sostenga UNIT hasta que “AOF= d” o “AOF=E” aparezca en la pantalla, luego libere. Utilice

2. Luego de seleccionar Everlock®, “PASS1” aparecerá en la pantalla. Esto indica que el
usuario ha de ingresar una contraseña. Presione las siguientes teclas en esta secuencia:

Pesaje de un Paciente
Nota: Cuando se enciende, la báscula siempre usará por defecto todos los ajustes y las unidades
usadas por última vez (LB o KG). Nota: La báscula no fija pesos menores a 5 lb / 2.27 kg.
1. Asegúrese de que la bandeja de pesaje se encuentre completamente vacía. presione el
botón para encender la báscula. La báscula está lista para su uso cuando aparece "0"
en la pantalla.
2. Coloque al bebé en la báscula, de manera que su peso se distribuya uniformemente en la
bandeja. “LOCK” aparecerá y destellará sobre la pantalla junto con una medición del peso.
Cuando se determina un peso estable “LOCK” permanece visible junto con el peso del
paciente. Dependiendo del movimiento del paciente en la báscula, puede tomar varios
segundos para que la báscula bloquee el peso.
Precaución: Para prevenir lesiones al paciente, el mismo debe estar atendido durante
todo el evento de pesado.
3. Para ver el peso del paciente en otra unidad de medida, mantenga presionado UNIT. Si la
báscula está en modo de LB, convertirá el peso a KG. Si la báscula está en modo de KG,
convertirá el peso a LB. Nota: Esta función no está disponible en modelos KG o KL con la
función Everlock® activada o con la configuración de “Unit View” deshabilitada. Nota: "Vista
de unidad" solo está disponible cuando el paciente todavía está en la báscula, no funciona
durante la retención automática.
4. Retire al bebé de la báscula. El peso se mantendrá en la pantalla durante un período de
tiempo si la configuración de retención automática está habilitada El peso puede ser
retenido en la pantalla presionando el botón HOLD/RELEASE. Para liberar, presione el
botón HOLD/RELEASE nuevamente.
5. Después de que se haya tomado y registrado la medición del peso, retire al paciente de la
báscula. O presione el botón para volver a pesar al paciente sin sacarlo de la báscula.
Para apagar la báscula, mantenga presionado el botón durante aproximadamente tres
segundos.
Nota: Si la pantalla muestra "Err", ha excedido la capacidad de la báscula.
Nota: Si aparece "Lo" en la pantalla, indica que la carga de la batería es baja. NO indica un
problema con la medición del peso.

Recordar el Peso
1. Para recordar el último peso medido, presione HOLD/RELEASE.
2. Para limpiar la pantalla del peso recordado, presione HOLD/RELEASE nuevamente.

Función Cero
El botón ZERO/TARE pone a cero la báscula previo a la medición del peso. El botón
ZERO/TARE también se utiliza para la función de Tara como se describe abajo.

Función de Tara
Al usar la báscula, el peso de un objeto, como por ejemplo un tanque de oxígeno portátil, se
puede restar del peso total para determinar al peso del paciente solo.

Pesaje de un Paciente y Tara de un Peso Desconocido:

El peso mínimo de tara es de 5 lb / 2.27 kg. Nota: La báscula debe bloquearse en un peso
antes de que pueda tararse.
1. Asegúrese de que la bandeja de pesaje se encuentre completamente vacía. presione el
botón para encender la báscula. La báscula está lista para su uso cuando aparece "0"
en la pantalla.
2. Coloque el objeto en la báscula. La pantalla mostrará un valor para el peso del objeto.
3. Presione ZERO/TARE La palabra “TARE” aparecerá en la pantalla, y la bascula volverá a
cero.
4. Mantenga el objeto en la bandeja y acueste al bebé en la bandeja. La báscula deducirá
automáticamente el peso del objeto y exhibirá solamente el del paciente.
5. Cuando se retire al paciente y el objeto de la bandeja, se mostrará un valor negativo en la
pantalla. Presione el botón ZERO/TARE para borrar el valor tarado.
Precaución: Para prevenir lesiones al paciente, el mismo debe estar atendido durante
todo el evento de pesado.

Pesaje de un Paciente y Tara de un Peso Conocido (Pre-Tara)

La Pre-Tara puede realizarse para objetos entre 0.2 lb y 5 lb (0.1 kg y 2.2 kg).
1. Asegúrese de que la bandeja de pesaje se encuentre completamente vacía. presione el
botón para encender la báscula. La báscula está lista para su uso cuando aparece "0"
en la pantalla.
2. Presione y sostenga el botón ZERO/TARE hasta que la palabra “TARE” aparezca en la
pantalla.
3. El ícono de tara destellará junto con “0.0” LB o “0.0” KG, indicando que se ingrese el peso a
ser tarado. Utilice las teclas y ZERO/TARE para aumentar o disminuir el peso. Las
libras cambiarán en incrementos de 0.2 libras y los KG cambiará en incrementos de 0.1 kg.
4. Una vez que el valor de tara esté listo, bloquee el mismo presionando el botón
HOLD/RELEASE. El ícono de tara dejará de destellar y se mantendrá, y la cantidad

MANTENIMIENTO Y LIMPIEZA
Mantenimiento
Las siguientes páginas proporcionan instrucciones para el mantenimiento, la limpieza, la
calibración y la resolución de problemas de su báscula. Las operaciones de mantenimiento
distintas a las descritas en este manual deben ser realizadas por personal de servicio
calificado.
Antes del primer uso, o después de largos períodos de falta de uso, verifique la
adecuada operación y funcionamiento de la báscula. Si no funciona correctamente,
consulte al personal de servicio calificado.
1. Verifique la apariencia general de toda la báscula en busca de daños evidentes, desgaste,
daño y deterioro.
2. Inspeccione el cable del adaptador de CA no tenga fisuras o desgaste o que las clavijas no
estén rotas o dobladas.

Nota: Esta báscula es un dispositivo de pesaje extremadamente sensible. Si la función de

apagado automático está desactivada, se consumirá energía de la batería.

Limpieza y Desinfección
El cuidado apropiado y la limpieza son esenciales para asegurar una larga vida de pesaje
exacto y efectivo.
Precaución: Desconecte la báscula de la fuente de energía del adaptador AC antes de
limpiar la unidad.
1. Health o meter® Professional recomienda el uso de una de las siguientes soluciones
limpiadoras en un paño suave o toallita desechable.
● solución suave de jabón y agua
● alcohol isopropílico al 70%
● solución de peróxido de hidrógeno, concentración 1-5%
Después de la limpieza/desinfección, pase un paño humedecido con agua y luego un paño
limpio y seco. Para evitar la acumulación de residuos o superficies mojadas, asegúrese de
que la pantalla y los componentes de la báscula están completamente secos luego de la
limpieza.
2. Nunca utilice materiales ásperos o abrasivos para limpiar la báscula, ya que éstos arruinan

3. No sumerja la báscula en agua o en ningún otro líquido.

CALIBRACIÓN
Calibración
Esta báscula ha sido calibrada de fábrica y no requiere calibración previo a su uso. No hay
requerimientos para la calibración en campo; los usuarios deben ajustarse a las políticas de
calibración de su organización. Si es necesario, la báscula puede ser calibrada. La calibración
de su báscula se realiza usando 5 kilogramos (KG). Si la báscula se bloquea en libras, el
procedimiento de calibración seguirá requiriendo el uso de un peso de 5 kg.
Nota: Evite colocar la báscula cerca de rejillas de calefacción/enfriamiento, aparatos de
calefacción, áreas de alto flujo de aire o luz solar directa. La calibración debe realizarse
en un entorno controlado.
Nota: Sólo se debe de usar pesos certificados y rastreables según los estándares
nacionales para los procedimientos de calibración.
1. Presione y mantenga presionado los botones ZERO/TARE y UNIT al mismo tiempo, y
presione el botón para encender la báscula. “CAL” aparecerá brevemente en la
pantalla. Se mostrará “CAL” hasta que la combinación de botones sea liberada.
2. Una vez que se hayan soltado los botones, la pantalla mostrará el siguiente mensaje,
“CAL99”, “CAL98”, etc., hasta que la pantalla cuente hasta cero. Esto permite que las
celdas de carga se estabilicen antes de que comience la calibración. Es posible
presionar HOLD/RELEASE en cualquier momento para cancelar la cuenta regresiva;
sin embargo, esto no se recomienda.
3. Una vez transcurrido el tiempo, el mensaje el siguiente mensaje pasará horizontalmente
por la pantalla: “– 2Ero SCALE – ”. Sin peso en la plataforma, presione el botón
ZERO/TARE.
4. La báscula se pondrá a cero y el siguiente mensaje pasará horizontalmente por la
pantalla: “- PLACE 5 ON SCALE PrESS HOLd–”.
5. Coloque un peso certificado de 5 kg en el centro de la bandeja/asiento de pesaje y, a
continuación, presion HOLD/RELEASE. El mensaje “– CAL –” destellará sobre la
pantalla mientras la báscula se calibra.
A. Si el peso está dentro del rango de calibración, se mostrará un número de
cuatro dígitos en la pantalla. Retire el peso de la báscula y la báscula se
reiniciará. Nota: el recuento de calibración de 5 dígitos permanecerá hasta que
se elimine el peso.

B. Si el peso sobre la báscula no corresponde al del estándar de calibración

CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS
Intended Use
The Health o meter® Professional scale is intended to be used in a professional medical environment by trained
medical staff. This product was designed to weigh infants that are laying or sitting on the tray. The intended use
of the included measuring tape is to measure patient length. Do not modify the product or use it for anything
other than its intended purpose.

To prevent injury and damage to your scale, please follow these instructions very carefully.
• Assemble and operate the scale per the enclosed user instructions.
• For accurate weighing, this scale must be placed on a flat, stable surface.
• For accurate weighing, verify before each use the proper operation according to the procedure
described in this manual.
• Do not transport the scale with a patient or object on the tray.
• Do not exceed the weight capacity specified for this scale.
• Do not use in the presence of flammable or explosive materials.
• Ensure that the scale or AC adapter do not come in contact with liquids, excessive temperature, or
excessive humidity.
• If the scale becomes damaged, it should not be operated until properly serviced.

Patient/caregiver safety
• This scale is designed for static weighing of patients only. No scale should be used for patient
transfer.
• To prevent patient injury, the patient must be attended throughout the entire weighing event.
• Patient should wear lightweight covering or a paper tray liner should be used during weighing event.

When operating the scale with batteries:

• If the “LO” indicator activates, replace the batteries or switch to the AC adapter as soon as possible.
• When replacing / inserting batteries, be sure to use all new batteries.

When operating the scale with the (optional) AC adapter:

• Operate this scale exclusively with the AC adapter provided by Health o meter Professional. Use of
an unspecified adapter will void the warranty, and can pose a serious safety hazard.
• For use with AC adapter models noted on page 4 (not included)
• Prior to using this scale, inspect the AC adapter cord for cracking / fraying, or for broken / bent plug
prongs.
• Prior to using this scale, ensure that the AC adapter is plugged into an outlet with the rated voltage
appropriate for operation.
• Ensure that the AC adapter outlet is wired to a circuit breaker or other protected power source.
• Unplug the AC adapter, and carefully store both the adapter and adapter cord before moving the
scale.
• Operating this scale at voltages and frequencies other than specified can damage the equipment
and will void the warranty.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the EMC limits for the Medical Device Directive
93/42/EEC (EN 55011 Class A and EN 60601-1-2). These limits are designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference in a typical medical installation. The equipment generates, uses
and may radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with these
instructions, may cause harmful interference to other devices in the vicinity. There is no guarantee that
interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference
with other devices, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged
to try to eliminate the interference by one or more of the following measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving device.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Before Assembly

Each 522KL/522KG/524KL/524KG Digital Pediatric scale is shipped disassembled in one

carton. Carefully inspect the carton for shipping damage before unpacking. If damage is found,
contact your shipper or a Health o meter® Professional representative immediately at 1-800-
815-6615. Claims must be filed with the shipper as soon as possible after receipt of the
package. The following information details what you will find inside the main carton as you
unpack the parts for assembly.
To prevent scratching any components, carefully remove each assembly from the carton and
unwrap the packing materials. Set the carton aside for storage. To avoid damaging the scale
parts when unpacking, do not use a box cutter, knife, scissors, or any sharp object to open the
protective inner packaging.

1. Carefully remove the contents of the Screws and washers
carton and place each part on a flat,
level, and dry surface. Remove the
4 column mounting screws and
washers from the bottom of column
and set aside for assembly step 5.

2. Remove the black adapter bracket

from scale platform. Place the
bracket on the bottom of the column
with the adapter jack arrow sticker
pointing towards the front of the
column.

3. Place the scale platform on its side

and place the column on its side,
perpendicular to the platform. The
front of the display head on the
column should be facing forward
and above the scale platform.

4. Locate the load cell connector cable

inside the column and pull gently
until the plug reaches the bottom of
the column. Carefully pull the cable
connector from the bottom of the
column and plug into the RJ jack on
the scale platform. Caution: Once
connected, keep a firm grip on the
column to ensure the load cell
connector cable is not pulled out
from the RJ jack. This cable RJ Jack
connects the load cells to the
display head and must be entirely
plugged in for the scale to
function properly.
5. Position and secure the column to
the scale platform. Locate the 4
column mounting screws previously
removed in step 1. Insert the 4
screws through the bottom of the
scale platform screw holes and into
the column. Ensure that washers
are located between the screw
heads and the scale platform screw
holes. Using a Phillips head
screwdriver, tighten the screws to
secure the column to the base of the
platform.

6. Locate the 2 M6 x 16mm screws
included in the clear plastic bag. Align
the 2 holes in the tray with the
mounting holes on the scale platform.
Insert the screws and tighten to attach
the tray to the scale platform.

7. Obtain the circular adhesive screw

covers and place onto the screw cap
on the tray.

8. Obtain the measuring tape and remove

the adhesive backing. Affix the
measuring tape to the bottom or side of
tray.

9. Locate the two black seat mounting
brackets in the carton. Unscrew and
remove the black knobs on the
mounting brackets. Note: The
brackets are marked as bracket C and
bracket D. The tabs on bracket C are
shorter than bracket D.
10. Obtain the four M6 x 16mm screws
included in the clear plastic bag. Align
the holes in the tabs of the mounting
brackets with the holes in the
platform. Insert the screws through
the brackets and into the platform.
Using a Phillips head screwdriver,
tighten the screws to secure both
brackets to the platform.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that bracket C Bracket C
is mounted on the edge of the
platform, not the side of the platform
next to the scale pillar.
11. Place the seat onto mounting brackets
by aligning the notches on the seat
with the pegs on the mounting
brackets.

12. Locate the black knobs previously

removed in step 6. Insert the knobs
through the holes in the side of the
seat and into the mounting brackets.
Turn clockwise to completely tighten
the knobs and secure the seat onto
the mounting brackets. Scale
assembly is now complete.

POWERING THE SCALE
Powering the Scale – Inserting Batteries
1. With a Phillips head screwdriver remove the screw from the battery compartment cover
located on the back of the display. Remove the battery cover by pressing downward on the

2. Replace or install 6 new AA batteries. Health o meter® Professional recommends using an

alkaline or lithium battery, rated for 130°F (54°C) operation. Do not use zinc-carbon batteries.
3. Re-attach the battery cover to the display assembly.
4. Ensure all objects are removed from the weighing tray, and then press the ON/OFF button to
turn the scale on. “88:8:8.8” followed by “0:0.0” will appear on the display.
Note: The battery icon on the display does not indicate battery life. The battery icon simply
indicates that batteries are being used as the power source.
Note: If the set up procedure fails, refer to the troubleshooting instructions. If the problem is not
corrected, contact Health o meter Professional Scales Customer Service at 1-800-815-6615.
Note: If “Lo” appears on the display, it indicates that the battery power is low. It does NOT
indicate a problem with the weight measurement.
Warning: If the scale will not be used for some time, remove the batteries to avoid a
safety hazard. Disposal of batteries must be performed in accordance with the prevailing
national, regional or local regulations which apply to you.

Optional AC Adapter
1. Connect the AC adapter (not included) into the adapter jack on the scale platform.
Warning: To avoid a safety hazard, use only a Health o meter® Professional AC adapter.

2. Plug the scale’s AC adapter into the power source/wall outlet. Caution: Always plug the AC
adapter into the scale first, then into the power source/wall outlet.
3. When the AC adapter is disconnected from the scale, the scale will switch to battery power if
batteries are installed.
Note: If the set up procedure fails, refer to the troubleshooting instructions. If the problem is not
corrected, refer to qualified service personnel.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Auto-Off Function
As an energy saving feature, the scale will automatically turn off after 2 minutes of inactivity. By
default, this function is enabled. Note: The Auto-off function is only active when the scale is
being powered by batteries. Note: The scale will not power off if a weight is held on the display.

Disable Auto-Off
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the HOLD/RELEASE button.
2. While holding the HOLD/RELEASE button, press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on.
3. Release both keys and “AOF=0” will be displayed.
4. Auto-off is now disabled and the scale will remain on until the scale is manually turned off.

Enable Auto-Off
1. While the scale is turned off, press and hold the HOLD/RELEASE button.
2. While holding the HOLD/RELEASE button, press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on.
3. “START” will briefly appear on the display followed by “AOF=1”.
4. Auto-off is now enabled.

Selecting the Weight Measuring Unit (KL Versions Only):

Note: LB (Pounds) is the default weight measuring unit upon initial set-up/assembly.
1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on.
2. Wait for “0.0” LB or “0.0” KG to appear on the display.
3. Press the LB/KG button to choose between LB or KG.
Note: The scale will always default to the unit last used even after it has been powered off and
back on again. To lock the scale in a weight measuring unit follow the instructions below.

Locking the Weight Measuring Unit (KL Versions Only)

The weight measuring unit can be locked to only measure in KG or LB. Follow the procedures
below to lock the weight measuring unit.

KG Lock Instructions (KL Versions Only)

1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on. Wait for “0.0” to appear on the display.
2. Press and hold the LB/KG button so that KG icon is displayed and continue holding the

3. When the KG icon flashes, release the LB/KG button. The KG weight measuring unit is now
locked and will remain locked even if the scale is turned off.

LB Lock Instructions (KL Versions Only)

Note: To lock in LB weight mode, you must follow the instructions above to lock in KG weight
mode first.
1. Once the scale is locked in KG mode, press and hold the LB/KG button for approximately
10 seconds until the LB icon flashes.
2. When the LB icon flashes, release the LB/KG button. The LB weight measuring unit is now
locked and will remain locked even if the scale is turned off.

Unlocking the Weight Measuring Unit (KL Versions Only)

Note: If your scale is locked in KG mode, you must first follow the instructions above to lock into
LB mode, and then begin the disabling instructions below.
1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale on. Wait for “0.0” to appear on the display.
2. Press and hold the LB/KG button until LB and KG icons both flash. When LB and KG are
flashing, release the LB/KG button. The weight measuring unit is now unlocked; pressing
the LB/KG button will allow user to toggle between LB and KG.

Weighing a Patient
1. Make sure there is nothing on the tray/seat.
2. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the display assembly on. “88:8:8.8” followed by “0:0.0” will
appear on the display.
3. Lay the baby on the scale so that its weight is evenly distributed on the tray/seat. The scale
will begin to display weight information and will lock on the patient’s weight when the stable
weight of the patient is determined. Depending on the movement of the patient on the scale, it
may take several seconds for the scale to lock onto the weight. When a stable weight is
calculated a small ring will appear on the display along with the baby’s weight. If the display
shows “OVER” you have exceeded the capacity of the scale.
Caution: To prevent patient injury, the patient must be attended throughout the entire
weighing event.
4. The weight may be held on the display by pressing the HOLD/RELEASE button. To release,
press the HOLD/RELEASE button again.
5. After the weight measurement has been taken and is recorded, remove the baby from the
weighing tray. After weight is removed from the tray the scale will return to zero.
6. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the scale off.

Zero Function
The ZERO/TARE button zeroes the scale prior to a weight measurement. The ZERO/TARE
button is also used in the Tare function as outlined below.

Tare Function
The tare function allows you to place other items on the scale while weighing the baby without
affecting the baby’s weight reading.
1. With all weight off the scale, press the ON/OFF button to turn on the scale.
2. Wait until “0:0.0” appears on the display.
3. Place the object on the scale. The display will show a value for the object’s weight.
4. Press the ZERO/TARE button. The word “TARE” will appear on the display, followed by
“0:0.0”.
5. Keep the object on the platform, and lay the baby on the tray. The scale will display the
baby’s weight.
Note: If the scale does not return to “0:0.0” when you remove the object and baby from the tray,
press the ZERO/TARE button to return the scale to zero.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Maintenance
The following pages provide instructions for maintenance, cleaning, calibrating, and
troubleshooting of your scale. Maintenance operations other than those described in this
manual should be performed by qualified service personnel.
Caution: Before first use, or after long periods of non-use, check the scale for proper
operation and function. If the scale does not operate correctly, refer to qualified service
personnel.
1. Check overall appearance of the total scale for any obvious damage, wear, and tear.
2. Inspect the AC adapter cord for cracking or fraying, or for broken/bent prongs.

Note: This scale is an extremely sensitive weighing device. If the auto-off function is disabled,
battery power will be consumed.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Proper care and cleaning is essential to ensure a long life of accurate and effective weighing.

Caution: Disconnect the scale from the AC adapter power source prior to cleaning the
unit.

5. Health o meter® Professional recommends using one of the following solutions on a soft
cloth or disposable wipe:
● mild soap and water solution
● 70% isopropyl alcohol
● solution with 1-5% hydrogen peroxide concentration
After cleaning/disinfecting, wipe with a cloth dampened with water and then with a clean dry
cloth. To avoid residue build-up or damp surfaces, ensure the screen and scale parts are
completely dry after cleaning.
6. Never use rough or abrasive materials to clean the scale, as these will damage the scale’s
finish.
7. Do not submerge the scale in water or any other liquid.
8. Do not pour or spray fluids directly on the scale.

CALIBRATION

This scale has been factory calibrated, and does not require calibration prior to
use. If required, the scale can be calibrated. Calibration of your scale must be
performed using kilograms (KG). 20 kilograms are required for calibration, applied in 5
kg increments.
Note: Only weights certified and traceable to national standards should be used
for calibration procedures.

With the scale off, press and hold the LB/KG button (522KL) or the “CAL” followed by
blank blue button (522KG) and ZERO/TARE buttons at the same “XXXX”
time, then press the ON/OFF button to turn on the scale. “CAL” will

you can begin calibration. Release all three buttons.
Press the ZERO/TARE button. “C-5” will flash on the display, “C-5” then “0” or

Limited Warranty
What does the Warranty Cover?
This Health o meter® Professional scale is warranted from date of purchase against defects of materials or in
workmanship for a period of two (2) years. If product fails to function properly, return the product, freight prepaid and
properly packed to Pelstar, LLC (see “To Get Warranty Service”, below, for instructions). If the manufacturer determines
that a defect of material or in workmanship exists, the customer’s sole remedy will be replacement of the scale at no
charge. Replacement will be made with a new or remanufactured product or component. If the product is no longer
available, replacement may be made with a similar product of equal or greater value. All replaced parts are covered only
for the original warranty period.
Who is Covered?
The original purchaser of the product must have proof of purchase to receive warranty service. Please save your invoice
or receipt. Pelstar dealers or retail stores selling Pelstar products do not have the right to alter, or modify or in any way
change the terms and conditions of this warranty.
What is Excluded?
Your warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage resulting from any of the following: negligent use or
misuse of the product, use on improper voltage or current, use contrary to the operating instructions, abuse including
tampering, damage in transit, or unauthorized repair or alternations. Further, the warranty does not cover natural
disasters, such as fire, flood, hurricanes and tornadoes. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also
have other rights that vary from country to country, state to state, province to province or jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
To get Warranty Service make sure you keep your sales receipt or document showing proof of purchase. Call (+1)

USO PREVISTO
Esta báscula Health o meter® Professional fue diseñada para ser utilizada en un entorno médico profesional y por
personal médico capacitado. Este producto fue diseñado para pesar bebés acostados o sentados en la bandeja. No
modifique el producto ni lo utilice para ningún otro fin distinto al indicado.

Para evitar lesiones al paciente y daños a su báscula, por favor siga muy atentamente las siguientes
instrucciones.
• Arme y opere la báscula según las instrucciones del manual de usuario adjunto.
• Para garantizar un pesaje preciso, coloque esta báscula en una superficie plana y estable.
• Para garantizar un pesaje preciso, verifique el correcto funcionamiento de la báscula antes de utilizarla,
conforme al procedimiento descrito en este manual.
• No traslade la báscula con un paciente u objeto colocado en la bandeja.

Antes del ensemblado

Cada báscula pediátrica digital 522KL/522KG/524KL/524KG se envía desarmada en una caja

de cartón. Inspeccione cuidadosamente la caja de cartón para verificar que no existan daños de
envío antes de desempacar la báscula. Si encuentra daños, comuníquese con su remitente o
con un representante de Health o meter® Professional de inmediato al número 1-800-815-
6615. Las reclamaciones deben presentarse ante el remitente lo antes posible después de
recibir el paquete. La siguiente información detalla lo que encontrará dentro de la caja principal
a medida que desempaca las piezas para el armado.
Para evitar que se raye cualquier componente, retire ciudadosamente cada conjunto de la caja
y desenvuelva los materiales de empaque. Para evitar dañar las partes de la báscula al

1. Retire cuidadosamente el contenido de la caja Tornillos y rondanas
y coloque cada parte sobre una superficie
plana, nivelada y seca. Retire los 4 tornillos y
rondanas de montaje de la columna de la
parte inferior de la misma y póngalos a un
lado para el paso 5 del armado.

2. Retire el soporte adaptador negro de la

plataforma de la báscula. Coloque el soporte
en la parte inferior de la columna con la flecha
de la etiqueta del adaptador apuntando hacia
el frente de la columna.

3. Coloque la plataforma de la báscula de

costado y coloque la columna de costado,
perpendicular a la plataforma. El frente del
cabezal de la pantalla en la columna debe
mirar hacia adelante y por encima de la
plataforma de la báscula.

4. Localice el cable conector de la celda de

carga dentro de la columna y tire suavemente
hasta que el enchufe llegue al fondo de la
columna. Tire cuidadosamente del conector
del cable desde la parte inferior de la columna
y enchúfelo al conector RJ en la plataforma de
la báscula. Precaución: Una vez conectado,
sostenga firmemente las columnas para
asegurarse de que el cable conector de la
celda de carga no se desenchufe del

INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN
Función de apagado automático
Como función de ahorro de energía, la báscula se apagará automáticamente después de 2 minutos de inactividad.
De manera predeterminada, esta función está activada. Nota: La función de apagado automático estará activa
únicamente cuando la báscula esté siendo alimentada por baterías. Nota: La báscula no se apagará si existe algún
peso sobre la pantalla.

Desactivar el apagado automático

1. Mientras la báscula está apagada, mantenga presionado el botón HOLD/RELEASE.
2. Mientras mantiene presionado el botón HOLD/RELEASE, presione el botón ON/OFF para encender la báscula.

Pesaje del paciente
1. Asegúrese de que la bandeja de pesaje se encuentre completamente vacía.
2. Presione el botón ON/OFF para encender el conjunto de la pantalla. En la pantalla aparecerá
“88:8:8.8”, seguido de “0:0.0”.
3. Coloque al bebé en la báscula, de manera que su peso se distribuya uniformemente en la
bandeja. La báscula comenzará a mostrar la información sobre el peso del paciente y se fijará
en un peso determinado al estabilizarse. Dependiendo del movimiento del paciente en la
báscula, el proceso de fijación del peso puede tardar varios segundos. Cuando se calcule un
peso estable, aparecerá un pequeño anillo en la pantalla junto con el peso del bebé. Si la
pantalla muestra "OVER", se ha excedido la capacidad de la báscula.
Precaución: Para evitar lesiones al paciente, éste deberá estar acompañado durante todo
el proceso del pesaje.
4. Es posible mantener el peso en la pantalla presionando el botón HOLD/RELEASE. Para
liberarlo, presione nuevamente el botón HOLD/RELEASE.
5. Una vez que se haya tomado y registrado la medición del peso, retire al bebé de la bandeja
de pesaje. Después de retirar el peso de la bandeja, la báscula volverá a ceros.
6. Presione el botón ON/OFF para apagar la báscula.

Función de Ceros
El botón ZERO/TARE coloca la báscula en ceros antes de una medición de peso. El botón
ZERO/TARE también se utiliza en la función de Tara, como se describe a continuación.

Función de Tara
La función de tara permite colocar otros objetos en la báscula durante el proceso de pesaje del
bebé, sin que la lectura del peso se vea afectada.

Mantenimiento
Las siguientes páginas proporcionan instrucciones para el mantenimiento, la limpieza, la
calibración y la resolución de problemas de su báscula. Las operaciones de mantenimiento
distintas a las descritas en este manual deben ser realizadas por personal de servicio
calificado.
Antes del primer uso, o después de largos períodos de falta de uso, verifique la
adecuada operación y funcionamiento de la báscula. Si no funciona correctamente,
consulte al personal de servicio calificado.
1. Verifique la apariencia general de toda la báscula en busca de daños evidentes, desgaste,
daño y deterioro.
2. Inspeccione el cable del adaptador de CA no tenga fisuras o desgaste o que las clavijas no
estén rotas o dobladas.

Nota: Esta báscula es un dispositivo de pesaje extremadamente sensible. Si la función de

apagado automático está desactivada, se consumirá energía de la batería.

Limpieza y desinfección
El cuidado y la limpieza adecuados son esenciales para garantizar que la báscula tenga una
larga vida de pesaje preciso y efectivo.

Precaución: Desconecte la báscula del adaptador de CA antes de limpiar la unidad.

1. Health o meter® Professional recomienda el uso de una de las siguientes soluciones en un

trapo suave o paño desechable:
● Solución de jabón suave y agua
● Alcohol isopropílico al 70%
● Solución con una concentración de peróxido de hidrógeno al 1-5%
Después de limpiar/desinfectar, limpie con un paño humedecido con agua y luego con un
paño limpio y seco. Para evitar la acumulación de residuos o superficies húmedas,
asegúrese de que la pantalla y las partes de la báscula estén completamente secas
después de la limpieza.

CALIBRACIÓN

Esta báscula ha sido calibrada en fábrica y no requiere calibración antes de su

uso. Si es necesario, puede calibrar la báscula. La calibración de su báscula debe
realizarse usando kilogramos (KG). Se requieren 20 kilogramos para la calibración,
aplicados en incrementos de 5 kg.
Nota: Únicamente deberán usarse pesas certificadas y trazables a las normas
nacionales para los procedimientos de calibración.

¿Qué cubre la garantía?
Esta báscula Health o meter® Professional cuenta con una garantía contra defectos de materiales o fabricación por un período de dos
(2) años a partir de la fecha de compra. En caso de que el producto muestre defectos en su funcionamiento, puede devolverlo, con flete
prepagado y empacado adecuadamente, a Pelstar, LLC (consulte las instrucciones en la sección de: "Para obtener el Servicio de
Garantía"). En caso de que el fabricante determine que existe un defecto de material o fabricación, el único recurso del cliente será el
reemplazo de la báscula sin cargo adicional. El reemplazo se realiza a través de un producto o componente nuevo o refabricado. En
