Synthesis Report 2
Synthesis Report 2
I. INTRODUCTION
Education and its planning can be defined as the process of curriculum preparation. It
plays an important role in determining both what learners are to learn and the manner in
which the learning is to be done. This process is facilitated largely by teachers.
Knowledge
of the curriculum and its rationales facilitates construction of better student learning
experiences by the teachers.
II. SUMMARY OF SOURCES
Lesson 1: The Curriculum Curriculum: Definition, Nature, and Scope
Curriculum is the idea of what is to be taught and learned in school.
It also contains objectives, topics, and techniques of instructions.
A good curriculum is relevant to students’ inherent needs and to the needs of
society.
Lesson 2: Approaches About School Curriculum
Those are traditional, student engagement and integrated curriculum approaches
to education.
Each of them impact the process of teaching and learning in the classroom.
Every teacher has to decide on a course of action in accordance with the
students they are working with.
Lesson 3: Curriculum Development: Processes and Models
Curriculum development involves four main steps: and they are planning,
designing, implementation and evaluation.
The best models of curriculum development can include such approaches as
Ralph Tyler’s or Hilda Taba’s one.
All of these models stress goals and content selection process, as well as the
assessment of its results.
Lesson 4: Foundations of Curriculum Development
Curriculum is built on four foundations: existential, historical, psychological and
social.
It is asserted that philosophical bases assist in determining what education
should accomplish.
There are different paradigms of the studies of curriculum change with historical
foundations presenting theoretical constructs.
Psychological bases cover the approaches to learning among students.
Community factors which refer to social factors determine what is taught in the
society due to its needs.
III. ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS
The lessons on the whole are dedicated to the importance of proper curriculum
organization. This they show that curriculum development is not messy or random,
rather
it follows a certain protocol. Lesson one simply introduces students with the topic of a
clear goals and evaluation, Taba emphasizes the involvement of the teacher in decision-
making. It ensures that the curricula provided are relevant and successful in the
partnership provided.
The lesson from Lesson 4 is an elaboration of how various imponders affect the
curriculum. For instance, education is influenced by philosophy principles, while
psychology is used to enhance understanding of the best approach when teaching
students. Many historical views emphasize the fact that educational programs require
changes to respond to new social needs.
IV. CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, teachers should have some knowledge about the development of
curriculum. This is because it assists them in the development of coherent learning
experiences. Knowledge of the processes and foundations of curriculum empowers a
teacher to make positive decisions for his/her students. Between these lessons, the
author
underlines that substance is the key to proper educational process. Whenever teachers
are involved in the various curriculum development processes, they will in turn prepare
the students for their future.
