The time given at the head of this paper is the time allowed for writing the
answer.

Question 1.
a. What are the two requirements for selecting a unit of a physical quantity?(2)
b. The acceleration of a body is 40 m𝑠 −2 . Find the increase in its velocity (2)
in 4 s.
c. (i) Name the physical quantity of which the unit is kg 𝑚−1 𝑠−2 . (2)
(ii) Two simple pendulum A and B have equal lengths, but their bobs
Weigh 25 gf and 50 gf respectively. What would be the ratio of their
time periods? Give reason for your answer.
d. Complete the following: (2)
(i) 1 micron(µ) = ___________ cm.
(ii) The action and reaction force act on the __________ bodies and
in __________ direction.
(iii) Force needed to produce same acceleration in different bodies is
proportional to their __________.
e. Draw graph to show the dependence of acceleration on force for a (2)
constant mass.
Question 2.
a. Derive the relation between g and G . (2)
b. Two similar trucks are moving with the same velocity on a road. (2)
One of them is loaded while the other is empty which of the two will
require a large force to stop it? Explain giving suitable reason.
c. What are the two factors on which the time-period of simple pendulum (2)
depends? How does it depend on these two factors?
d. How does a person move forward during swimming? Explain giving (2)
suitable reason.
e. A man travels a distance of 1.5 m towards the east, then 2.0 m (2)
towards the south and finally 4.5 m towards the east in 4 s. Calculate the total
distance travelled by the man. Will the displacement be more than, equal to or
less than the distance travelled by the body?

Question 3.

a. Which would require a greater force: accelerating a 10 g mass at (2)


5 m𝑠 −2 , or a 20 g mass at 2 m𝑠 −2 ?

c. Give reason: While swinging, if we stand on the swing, the swing (2)
moves faster.
d. A spring attached to the rigid wall is stretched. Draw a neat and (2)
labelled diagram showing the forces acting on the stretched spring.
e. Name and define the gravitational C.G.S. unit of force. (2)

a. State Newton’s second law of motion (2)
b. State the effects of a force applied on (2)
(i)a non-rigid body
(ii) a rigid body
c. State two points to differentiate between mass and weight. (2)
d. State two unit of mass smaller than a kilogram. How are they related to (2)
kilogram?
e. Draw a neat diagram of simple pendulum. Show on it the effective (2)
length of the pendulum and one oscillation.

a. Which law of Newton’s is illustrated in the given figure? Explain. (2)

b. Two bodies A and B of masses m and 2m are in motion with velocities v and 2v
respectively. Compare (2)
(i) their inertia
(ii) their momentum
c. What is a seconds’ pendulum? What is its frequency? (2)
d. State whether the following quantity is a scalar or vector? (2)
(i) Charge
(ii) Electric field
(iii) Momentum
(iv) Frequency
e. A racing car has a uniform acceleration of 5 m𝑠 −2 .What distance will (2)
it cover in 20 s after starting from rest?
