B) Grading Rubrics

Abstract

● The abstract includes:


1- Main research question or the overall purpose of the study.
2- The basic study methodology (in 3-4 lines)
3- Your hypothesis or the expected study result.

Literature review & references

● At least 3 research papers or studies (or textbook citations) are


included in your literature review.

● The information written in the literature review is directly related to


your research question. It must also be scientifically valid and based
on reliable scientific evidence.

● The academic source cited is scientifically reliable.

● correct and consistent citation format(either APA or IEEE) in both


the references section and in-text citation.

Research Question
● Your research question is clear and concise.

● It can be answered through an experimental study


Hypothesis / Predicted results

- Your hypothesis is directly related to your main research question.

- You clearly stated your hypothesis in a clear and understandable


way in the abstract.

- You mentioned how the results will verify or contradict your


hypothesis in the results section.

Methodology

● Will this experimental procedure actually help answer the research


question?​ (15 points)

● Are the experimental procedures applicable in the real world? ​(10


points)

● Did you mention all the following in your methodology section? ​(20)

- Participants​ -- who is your target population? What is the size


of your sample (how many people)?
- Procedure​ -- how will research be conducted?
- Materials​ -- list of materials that are needed to execute the
experiment :
a) Actual materials: equipment and instruments used
b) Experiment’s budget (assuming all experiment participants
are volunteers)
c) Tests or surveys that will be used.

● Do your procedures follow the general guidelines of participant


consent and ethical research measures? ​(5 points)​.
Please note :​ this is one of the most sensitive aspects of designing and conducting
psychology experiments. Entire experiments can be declined as a result of participant
consent issues or ethical problems in the experimental design.
C) How should the proposal look like?
This is are the sections that the proposal should have and what each
section must include.

1- Abstract
Includes:
● Main research question or the overall purpose of the study.
● The basic study methodology (in 3-4 lines)
● Your hypothesis or the expected study result.

2- Literature review
Literature review of previous studies or research that is directly related to your
research question​.

3- Methodology
Includes:
- Participants​ -- who is your target population? What is the size of your
sample (how many people)?
- Procedure​ -- how will research be conducted?
- Materials​ -- list of materials that are needed to execute the experiment :
d) Actual materials: equipment and instruments used
e) Experiment’s budget (assuming all experiment participants are
volunteers)
f) Tests or surveys that will be used.

4- Results
Includes:
- The results predicted by your hypothesis.
- How the results will verify or contradict your hypothesis​ (an example for
this is: “if the results came out as XYZ then this would verify our
hypothesis, while if the results came as ABC then this will disprove our
hypothesis”).

5- References.
Includes the references mentioned in your literature review (at least 3
academically reliable references) + any other references mentioned throughout
the proposal.
