The core values include empowerment, which helps individuals take

WHAT IS CORE VALUES?


Core values in a community are the fundamental principles or beliefs that
guide how people interact, make decisions, and work together for the
common good. These values shape the culture, actions, and goals of the
community.

Community action initiatives are driven by core values that focus on


creating positive, inclusive, and lasting social change. Here's a
breakdown of the values you mentioned.

a. Human Rights

Ensuring all people have basic freedoms and protections, such as access
to education, healthcare, and the right to live without discrimination.

Example: A group works to make sure children with disabilities can go


to school by providing ramps, special teachers, and other support to help
them learn like everyone else.

1. Natural rights:
A fundamental rights and freedoms that individuals are believed to have
simply by virtue of being human.These rights are often seen as inherent
and universal, meaning they apply to everyone regardless of their
nationality, culture, or laws.

2. Civil Rights:

Rights that protect individuals' freedoms and ensure equal treatment


under the law, such as the right to freedom of speech, privacy, and
protection from discrimination.

3. Political Rights:

Rights that allow individuals to participate in the political process, such


as the right to vote, run for office, and engage in political activities.

b. Social Equity

Promoting fairness by addressing inequalities and ensuring that everyone,


especially marginalized groups, has equal access to opportunities and
resources.

Example: A local clinic offers free medical check-ups in poorer areas to


make sure everyone, no matter their income, can get the healthcare they
need.

c. Gender Equality

Advocating for equal rights and opportunities for all genders, aiming to
eliminate discrimination and empower all individuals, regardless of
gender.

Example: A program helps young girls learn leadership skills by


connecting them with successful women mentors, so they can have the
same career opportunities as boys

d. Participatory Development

Involving local communities in decision-making and project


implementation to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are
addressed in development efforts.
Example: A village helps plan and build a new water system, with
everyone in the community giving input on where to put it and how to
keep it working, so it fits their needs.

Based from what is happening nowadays, create an advocacy (slogan) on


how to prevent and eliminate injustices. Write your advocacy in a short
bond paper.

Let’s Remember!
To sum up, community action initiatives must be guided by principles
and core values of social justice, human rights, gender equality, and
participatory development. These community actions have a purpose,
which is to enable people to work in solidarity in addressing social
problems. However, it is important to involve the Filipino youth in
addressing these issues so that their communities may benefit from their
contributions, ideas, and energies. By the participation of the youth it can
help organize, identify and remove practices that hinder them to
participate in community development initiative. Doing so will allow the
transition from non participatory practices toward a more meaningful and
higher level of youth participation.
