Fe-W Phase Diagram

The document discusses the phase relationships in the Fe-V and Fe-W systems, highlighting anomalies and phase transformations observed through various analyses. It notes the influence of pressure on the stability of phases in the Fe-V system and presents a phase diagram for the Fe-W system, detailing intermediate phases and solubility limits. References to previous studies and findings are provided to support the observations made in the document.

Fe-V the composition deviates from stoichiometry.

The so-called "650°C anomaly"

corresponds to the 550°C anomaly in the Fe-Co system and has been
observed in the ordered Fe-V alloys during continuous heating of homogenized,
quenched and annealed samples based on DTA and X-ray analysis by Seki
et al. [14].
The effect of pressure on the stability of the (a + 1') phase (Fig.95) and
the 0 phase transformation was studied by electron microbe am and X-ray
analysis of binary diffusion couples diffused under simultaneous conditions
of high pressures and temperature by Hanneman et al. [8]. The results show
that the region of solubility of the ophase increases with pressure and
the congruent transformation point of 0 is moved to higher temperatures,
which was already predicted by the application of the Clapeyron equation.

Fe-W Iron-Tungsten

The present (Fig.96) phase diagram representing the phase relationships

in the Fe-W system is a combination of evidence presented by Sinha et
al. [1] (0-45 at. % W), Kirchner et al. [2] (equilibria between ferrite, austenite
and intermediate phases) and Takayama et al. [11] (a (Fe) solubility limits).
The 50-100 at. % W region has not been investigated fully.
The system belongs to the closed 'Y-Ioop type and entails two well established
intermediate phases, namely: A.(Fe 2W, MgZn 2-type structure, a Laves phase),
f.L(Fe3W2, rhombohedral, D8 5 structure), and probably a 0 phase around
50 at. % W. The solid solubility of Fe in W was found to be about 2.5 at. % at
1,640°C and does not seem to change much with temperature (Hansen
[A: Refs. 11, 18]). The melting point of W, (3,422 ± 8) °C is a secondary
