Mahara Project - Grade 7 Math 2024 2

The MAHARA Project for 2024 focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action, specifically through data handling using double bar graphs. Students will analyze carbon footprints from electricity bills, suggest energy-efficient practices, and interpret their findings. The project includes research, data collection, and creative presentations to promote awareness and solutions for reducing carbon emissions.

MAHARA PROJECT – 2024

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 13: CLIMATE ACTION

LESSON – DATA HANDLING (Double Bar Graph)

Name ______________ Subject: Mathematics Grade 7 Sec____

Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to
 Analyze the carbon footprints associated with electricity consumption in households.
 Explore ways to reduce environmental impact through sustainable energy practices.
A) Task:
 Collect electricity bills from any 5 residents and construct a double bar graph to compare the
Carbon Footprints in any two consecutive months and interpret the key information from the
graph.
 Suggest innovative ways/design app or prototype to adopt energy-efficient practices and
reduce their carbon footprints.
B) Route map:
Draft 1: Write and explain in 50 to 80 words each of the following:
1. What is your understanding about SDG 13: Climate action?
2.Write a brief description about the Carbon Footprints in relevance to SDG 13. You may refer to the
QR code/URL given below to research.

3. Define the problem: Write about the impact of electricity usage in households and commercial
places on generating carbon footprints, thereby its effect on climate change and environmental
degradation. (SDG 13)
4. Do a survey and collect carbon footprint data from electricity bills from 5 different residents in any
two consecutive months and represent in tabular format.
Final draft:
1. Create a visual representation of the data using a double bar graph (on graph paper) using the
check list for construction of double bar graph with all necessary elements.
2. Interpret the graph and write the information gathered from it in 30 to 50 words.
3. Suggest innovative ways or design app or prototype for individuals and communities to adopt
energy-efficient practices and reduce their carbon footprints. (You may use a creative approach like
poster designing/mind map/ blueprint/flow chart/app/ prototype with illustrated ideas and pictures).
CHECKLIST-Student evaluation:
Make a note of all the expectations as given in the check list below for the project.

SI Criteria: I will be successful when Yes/No

No:
1. Draft 1 - I have researched and explained the impact of electricity usage and
carbon footprints on climate change and environmental degradation. (SDG 13)

2. I have surveyed and collected data for carbon footprints for two consecutive
months arranged the data in a tabular format.

3. Draft 2: I have constructed the double bar graph for the data collected using all the
necessary components.

4. I have interpreted the information in the double bar graph in my own words.

5. I have found innovative ideas or solutions for reducing carbon

emissions/footprints to promote sustainable energy consumption.
