PROCEDURE TEXT

➢ Procedure text is a kind of text tells about a process of making something.


Examples :
1. directions
2. instruction manuals
3. recipes
4. itineraries
➢ Communicative purpose of the text :
❖ To describe how something is accomplished
(menggambarkan bagaimana sesuatu itu dicapai/diselesaikan)
➢ The generic structure of the text:
A. GOAL The aim of doing something (tujuan membuat
sesuatu)
B. MATERIALS The substance / food ingredients / matter(bahan)
(not required for all procedure text)
C. STEPS Series of steps to achieve the goal
(rangkaian langkah2 untuk mencapai
tujuan)
➢ Grammatical Features:
a) Use simple present tense
b) Use imperative sentence ( ex: boil the water, serve the fried banana on the
plate)
c) Use temporal conjuctions/numbering ( ex: first, second, then, finally, firstly
etc)
➢ Some examples of procedure text
• Recipes as procedures
• A schedule as a procedure
• Solutions as procedures
• A first aid procedure
• Sport and training procedures
• Playing games with procedures
1. Most games come with instructions on how to play them.

How to make hamburgers


Well, hamburgers are very simple. I am going to tell you how to make them.
All we need is a pound of minced beef, salt, pepper, paprika, a teaspoon of mustard,
and an egg.
Firstly, mix a pound of minced beef with salt, pepper, paprika, a teaspoon of
mustard. Now , break the egg in a bowl and mix all the things together with a fork.
When it’s smooth and well mixed, and roll them in some flour. Then we need a
frying pan and some oil. Fry the humburgers on both sides for 15 minutes, until they
are really brown. When they are ready, get some soft bread rolls and cut them in a
half. Put the humburgers inside them. Finally, eat them as soon as possible.

Steps tell in imperative


Goal = How to make hamburgers
