Principal Sibsagar Commerce College @ Sibsagar Commerce College was established on 30th June 1969. It was brought under deficit grant- in- aid system by the government of Assam w.e.f. 01-12-1975. The College has a distinctive position of its own in the field of higher education in upper Assam. It chas been playing a significant role in creating the atmosphere among the young generation about trade ‘commerce, Industry and humanities The Sibsagar Commerce College started its journey with a few students under the principalship of Gauri Bhusan Baruah and flourished in to a full fledged college under the Principalship of Smt. Dipali Chaliha. After crossing many initial hurdles and milestones, the college crossed another milestone by the end of the year 2003 in the form of NAAC Gradation. The Principal, the teachers’, office staff, students, guardians and the alumni were all geared up to face the NAAC peer team (12th & 13th Dec. 2003) & the college was finally awarded with “B” Grade. The latest feather in our cap is the re-acereditation by the NAAC peer team for the second cycle on 26th, 27th & 28th March, 2015 & have been awarded with a“B+” grade and 3rd cycle of NAAC accreditation in 2023 December get ‘A’ grade. The college has four major departments offering B.Com Courses such as Banking, Accountin; Human Resource Management, Marketing. The Sibsagar Commerce College has introduced M.Com. regular programme under Dibrugarh University in the year 2015 and depicit an outstanding performance through academic results. The college introduced the BCA course under Dibrugarh University from the sessoion 2005-06 and it is running successfully. The BA course with major in Economics, Sociology and Political Science, English, Assamese and Education are offered currently Apart from this the college is offering Hospitality Management Courses under UGC community college scheme since 2015. Management: The college is managed by a Governing Body constituted by the Govt. of Assam as per provision of Assam College (Provincialisation) Act, 2005 under Assam Act No. XLVI of 2005. a's (attenDENcE It is mandatory to attend classes regularly and punctually. Willful absence from the classes will be treated as a serious breach of the college discipline. As per norms, each student is required to obtain a minimum p.c. 80% of attendance to be regular candidate. If his/her p.c. of attendance is between 65% to 75% he/she will be treated as non collegiate and if he/she can not attain minimum 65% attendance, he/she will be treated as dis-collegiate. The P.C. of attendance also carries marks in the internal assessment evaluation. Therefore, the attendance needs to be taken seriously. Regular attendance in the classes is compulsory. Students not fulfilling the AHSEC/ University norms of 75% attendance may not be allowed to take up their final examination. Students are expected to behave in a responsible and dignified manner inside the campus of the College. Any unseemly and undesirable habits will be severely dealt with. Repeated offence could even lead to expulsion of the student from the College. : ( RAGGING IS COMPLETELY PROHIBITED + Ragging is completely prohibited. Any one found involved in this act will be expelled from the college and FIR will be lodged with the police. + Any problem faced by the students should be brought to the notice of the principal. + The Anti Raging Committee of the college keeps strict vigil against any practice of ragging in the college campus. The library has a well-stocked of collections with a good variety. Currently, the college library has 26,000 copies of text and reference book covering a wide range of subjects. The library subscribes 8 journals, 7 magazines and 5 daily newspapers and, It also has a good collection of Encyclopedias and Dictionaries. The college library is fully computerized and uses Koha ILMS software. The library introduced book searching facilities, to its users through Web-OPAC.
