Packing Instruction 970, Section I*

Customer Defined Shipment Specifications


• Lithium content is > 1 g/cell or 2 g/battery and ≤ 12 g/cell or 500 g/battery per piece
of equipment
• Net quantity of lithium cells or batteries is ≤ 5 kg per package
• Package contains no more than the number of lithium cells or batteries necessary to power
and are contained in the equipment (no spares)

Packaging Requirements
• Cells and batteries protected to prevent short circuits
• Equipment with cells or batteries packed in strong rigid outer packaging that protects
equipment from moving and/or accidental activation
• Equipment must be packed to prevent contact with other equipment when packed within the
same outer packaging
