COMPREHENSION

Paragraph 1.

Most of bacteria of some kind do not survive in the highly acidic medium of human stomach.
Only a few bacteria do conserve their energy and store nutrients during the passage through
the stomach by shutting down much protein production. When bacteria need the movement
from stomach to intestine, they start production of hollow cylindrical protein called flagellin
for making flagella. These bacteria release a toxin which leads to secretion of some salts and
water into the lumen of small intestine.

Answer questions 1 and 2:

1. The bacteria which follow the passage given above, most probably would be -
(a) MTB (b) VCB (c) MLB (d) GCB

2. The disease which is characterized by the secretion of salts and water in the lumen of
small intestine would be -
(a) Tuberculosis (b) Syphilis (c) Pertussis (d) Cholera

Paragraph 2.

This disease reached India during Jahangir dynasty through the ship of Hongkong and
thousands of people died in Gujrat in 1994. The causal agent was discovered by Kitasato.
This bacteria favoures 22-25οC.

1. Name the causal agent of the disease for which the comprehension given is most
accurate.
(a) Chlotridium Telani (b) Vibrio Cholerae
(c) Corynebacterium (d) Yersinea Pestis
