Throughout our lives, technology has been playing a key role in

changing how we live our lives, changing how we communicate or interact

with one another. However, looking into this topic shows how technology,
despite its many benefits, may be the following cause of isolation.

Firstly, what is isolation? Isolation in the context of technology refers

to the replacement of real-world connections, leading to a sense of
detachment from direct human relationships. Nonetheless, opinions may
differ, so we'd have to consider the pros and cons.

The Pros of Technology:

1. Global Connections
- Technology helps us stay connected no matter the distance,
whether it is through calls, social media, or direct messaging
apps like Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and etc.
2. Access to Information
- The internet provides us with instant access to knowledge or
services. This helps us solve problems efficiently, which is
something we humans can't do within seconds.
3. Convenience
- Technology makes several everyday tasks simpler, from
organizing plans to helping us navigate through new places.
Through this, our tasks can be done in a faster and accurate
manner by intelligent systems like ChatGPT, Siri, and etc.

The Cons of Technology:

1. Less Real-life Interactions
- While digital communication is simple and quick, it lacks the
value of physical contact, which is why depending on it
frequently replaces physical interactions and results in poor
connections and a sense of isolation.
2. Addiction
- Excessive screen time limits real-life engagement and causes
isolation, and the design of technology, specifically applications
and social media, stimulates addictive habits.
3. Dependence on AI Over Human Ability
- Over-dependence on technology may decrease human
creativity and problem-solving abilities. There may be a lack of
skills as a result of AI doing tasks that have always been
previously done by humans, such as basic math or definitions.
4. Mental Health Effects
- Because of constant online connections, comparisons, and
digital overload overwhelms the mind and limits in-person
relationships, our mental health strains from excessive
technology usage and can result in anxiety, depression,
insomnia, low self-esteem, loneliness, and burnout.

Moreover, while technology offers undeniable benefits, we should

always consider the pros and cons. Based on the pros and cons
mentioned, it is clear that technology causes heaps of disturbances in the
long run. We should treat technology as a tool, and not as some sort of
replacement for human interactions and connections. To put a stop to
technology-caused isolation, we as a society should prioritize real-life
connections through direct physical interactions, taking hours of our day
stepping away from the internet, and engaging in everyday tasks. While
technology is practical it cannot replace the emotional fulfillment of genuine
connections. A growing sense of isolation in our current digital age can
easily be overcome by maintaining a balance between our technology
usage and efforts to interact with one another.
