Hello John,

How are you? This is my fourth week at my new school and I want to tell you all about it! I really like
my new school, but it isn’t very easy being the new kid. The good thing is that the students in my
class are all very friendly. My favourite classmate is Tony. He is really outgoing and funny, and we
both love doing the same things. Tony is a big fan of rollerblading and bowling, just like me. We’re
great friends and we hang out together after school!
The school day is tiring. It starts at 8.15 a.m. and finishes late, at 4.00 p.m. On Wednesdays and
Fridays I don’t get home until 6.00 p.m. That’s because I have basketball training
after school. I’m on the school team! I enjoy most of the subjects, like history,
geography and science, but I really can’t stand maths. Our teacher, Mr
Andrews, tries to make maths fun and easy to understand, but it’s so
difficult. Also, the teachers always give us lots of homework, but that’s OK!

Bye for now,

Mike

My first bike
Hi, I’m Ted and I love cycling. I got my first bike at the age of five.
It was purple and green. My favourite colours! I can remember
when my parents gave it to me. My dad took me into our garden
and there it was! I couldn’t ride a bike, so my parents took me
to the park to practise. My mum was a bit scared. She didn’t
want me to fall off, so she told me to be very careful and to ride
slowly. When I sat on the seat and rode for the first time, I didn’t
feel scared. I was just excited! It wasn’t very difficult and after an
hour, I could ride it very easily. ‘This is great fun!’ I thought.

There’s a new place to shop in town

Hello, my name’s Mandy. I’m crazy about shopping, so I’m very excited about the new shopping centre
in my hometown. It’s called Northside and it’s a fantastic place to hang out. It isn’t the largest shopping
centre in my town, but I think it’s got the best shops, restaurants and cafés. And guess what! It’s even got
a cinema! Like many people, my sister and I went to Northside the first day it opened. We couldn’t believe
how crowded it was that day! There are nearly 200 shops there, but there wasn’t time to visit all of them,
of course! We saw lots of nice clothes, and my sister bought the most amazing T-shirt. I really wanted to
buy a beautiful yellow dress, but it was very expensive. There was a hairdresser’s on the ground floor, so
I did get something - a cool new haircut!

The scary spider

It was Friday night and Tina was home alone. She was watching TV in her bedroom
when she noticed something on her desk. It was a very, very large spider! Tina
screamed and ran out of the house. She was standing in the garden when she
suddenly thought, ‘Oh no! I can’t get back into the house. My keys are on the
kitchen table!’ She decided to ask her neighbour, Mr Jones, for help. Mr Jones knew
what to do. He got a ladder and climbed into the house through an open window. A few
minutes later, he opened the front door. Tina went up to her room and slowly walked in.
The spider was still there, but it wasn’t moving. She looked at it more carefully. It wasn’t real - it was a toy
spider! ‘Perhaps my brother was playing a silly joke on me,’ she thought. There was nothing to be scared of.
