ILIYASU Muhammad Nasir was born in Nasarawa, Nasarawa Local Government Area, where
he completed his primary and secondary education. He holds a National Diploma (ND) and
Higher National Diploma (HND) in Chemical Engineering Technology and is currently
pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Chemical Engineering at the prestigious
University of Abuja. Iliyasu has built an impressive professional career, serving as a Resource
Person with the ICT Department at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa from 2016 to 2021. During
this period till date, he is also contributing his expertise as a Resource Person at the Centre
for Entrepreneurship Development (CEDS) taking students practicals on Soap making and
Cosmetology at the same institution. He currently holds the position of Personal Relationship
Manager at Moniepoint Microfinance Bank.His leadership journey with Junior Chamber
International (JCI) began at JCIN Kaduna Polytechnic, where he served as Director of
Sponsors and General Secretary. In 2020, he was appointed Northern Collegiate Director of

The advantages of parliamentary
procedures include:

 Orderly meetings;
 Opportunities for all to be heard;
 Decisions by the majority;
 Protection for the minority.

There are many sets of rules or guides to effective action in


meetings. Among these are Robert’s Rules of Order used by
Junior Chamber International and most National and Local
Organizations.
Rule 1: Be Prepared

The leader or presiding officer should be well prepared


before the meeting

 Draft an agenda
 Know in what to expect
 Arrange for the meeting place
Conducting the Meeting

What is a quorum?

NOTE: In no case should the meeting proceed without the


quorum. This requirement is designed to insure the group
that its decisions will not be made by an unrepresentative
minority

meeting, recess, question of privilege, point of information, etc.)

Once you have been elected or appointed as a JCI Nigeria


Officer, you are a JCI Nigeria Officer everywhere you go in the
JCI world during your term of office. Even in your Area, District
or Local Organization, you are a JCI Nigeria Officer first,
representing the Organization, and then a member of your Local
Organization.

Formal

FORMAL
For formal outfit, you can do the business formal dress code or the following:
 Men – tuxedo, traditional dress (with headgear and not face cap)
 Women – suits, traditional dress (headgear) or floor length dress
 President chain is appropriate
BUSINESS CASUAL
a. Asia: Suit but no tie
b. Europe: jeans, dress shirt, sport coat
c. Africa: conservative; more formal in English-speaking countries and less formal in
French-speaking countries
CASUAL
General: jeans, shorts, JCI polo, JCI t-shirt or causal shirt
JCI Pins
JCI Pins
The JCI member pin can be worn in all settings. It is to

be worn on the left shoulder/lapel area. A gold pin

indicates members who hold an officer position at the

national or international level. A silver pin indicates

general members and local officers..

Protocol Precedence Rules

Precedence refers to priority in importance, order or rank. In JCI, precedence is


particularly important in ceremonial situations.

Note, while you are always a JCI Nigeria Officer even when attending events in your
Local Organization, if another JCI Nigeria Officer is visiting your Local Organization who
is either assigned to your Local Organization or holds a higher office, appropriate
respect and recognition should be given to your fellow officer

When greeting the audience, the order shall be:
Highest government official from the country, state or city, JCI Nigeria President, other
governmental officials, Local Organization President, Event Chairperson, Local Board of
Directors, JCI Nigeria Board of Directors, Presidents who served the Local Organization
throughout the years, Senators and members, ladies and gentlemen.

Note, All past JCI Presidents, JCI Nigeria Presidents and Local Presidents shall be addressed
as "President" and not "Past President" out of respect.
→ For example, “President Attairu Abdullahi”, “President Maryam Bamalli”, “President Aminu
Alkali”, etc
Written Communication
Proper grammar and etiquette in written communication is just as important as it is while speaking.
Keep in mind the following guidelines when sending any official written communication:
 The only individual authorized to write on behalf of the Organization is the President. This applies
to the local, national, and international level. However, the President may delegate
communication to other individuals, such as the Secretary General or other officers
 Administrative communication shall be done by the Secretary.
 All other official communication (condolences, congratulations, etc) shall be done by the
President.
 Official invitations shall be signed by the President and Event Chairperson and sent out by the
Secretary.

JCI Terminologies Clarification

Local Organization or Chapter?


The most appropriate is Local Organization. The word Chapter is obsolete and should be
discarded. Do not write or say “my LO”, “the LO” or “that LO”, as they sound unclear and
unprofessional. You can say “my Local Organization”, “the Local Organization” or “that
Local Organization”

IJC, Intending Member or Prospective Member?


“IJC” is not an accepted term in JCI. An individual that shows interest in joining the
Organization is known as an “intending member” or a “prospective member” who will/is
going through membership process
