SIMPLE SENTENCES

Subject Predicate

who or whom the action done


What is a subject?
A subject in a sentence is any object (noun) what or whom the sentence is about.
What is a predicate?
A predicate in a sentence tell’s about the subject (what action is being performed by the subject).
SIMPLE SENTENCE [KERNAL-SENTENCE]
* PATTERN-I : Subject + verb-[This is called primary basic ]
 This pattern consists of a subject and a verb, where the subject performs an action or has a state
of being expressed by the verb,

Ex :- Dogs bark Ex:-Don’t dogs barks


she sings Don’t she sings

* PATTERN-II[A]: Subject +Linking verb+ object


Ex:- Raju is a student Subject Compliment
Flowers are beautiful

• PATTERN II [B]:- Subject + be form+ complement of the verb locational
adverb
• Ex:- The books are on the table complement of the verb

• Subject verb locational adverb

• * PATTERN II [C] :- Introductory subject + be form+ subject + location


• [Dummy subject] (Am, is, are was, were)
• Ex:- There are some books in the library.
• There is a student in the class


• PATTERN II[D] :- Introductory subject + be form+ express of time, weather spakers
feelings.
• Ex:- It was raining this morning.
• It is so beautiful.

• * All these above patterns are very commonly used in English either in ovral discourses
and written discourse.

• PATTERN III :- Subject + intransitive verb + compliment of verb.

• Ex:-Dogs bark at night.
• Men and women live and die. Verbs

• Ex:- Rama killed Ravana.
• Boys and girls are learning English.

• PATTERN V:- Subject+ transitive word + indirect object +direct object.
• Ex:-My sister sent me a present

• Our teacher gave us a book
• IMP:-In the case of some varbs the change in the word order ‘not possible’ the
indirect object comes at the end.

• * PATTERN VI:- Subject + transitive word +object+ object complement


• Ex:-They elected me their leader

• PATTERN VII:-Subject+ verb+object/Like expressions
• Ex:- My neighbors has a beautiful garden.
• this book casts fifty rupees.
• the parcel weight ten kilos.

conclusion :-The experiment was successful and proved our hypothesis.


* Reading improves knowledge and enhances creativity.
* Technology advances rapidly shaping our future.
