BREASTFEEDING POLICY

Goal
Our goal is to encourage breastfeeding among staff members and clients in light of the health benefits it offers to both
mothers and their children.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, clients, and visitors within our office and facilities.
Policy Statement
Lemery Municipal Health Office is dedicated to provide a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers. To achieve
this, we will:
1. Recognize the Benefits of Breastfeeding:
·Recognize that breastfeeding promotes infant health and lowers the risk of illness by providing vital nutrients and
antibodies.
·Recognize that breastfeeding improves the emotional link between a mother and a child and lowers the risk of certain
cancers.
2. Provide Supportive Facilities:
·Ensures that mothers have access to a private, clean, and comfortable spaces for breastfeeding and milk expression.
·Provide these areas with necessary amenities such as clean private area, with comfortable chair, table, hand washing
facilities, and storage are for cooler or refrigerator.
3. Comforts in the Workplace
·In addition to scheduled breaks, breastfeeding mothers are entitled to have an additional 40 minutes break for
breastfeeding or milk expression pursuant to RA 10028.
·Flexibility for breastmilk expression breaks. There is flexibility for employees to take lactation breaks during their workday,
these can be negotiated between the mother, employee representative and supervisor.
·Provide flexible work schedules or remote work options for returning mothers when possible.
4. Educational Resources
·Facilitate the availability of resources on breastfeeding benefits and techniques.
·Breastfeeding posters and IEC materials should be posted in the designated lactation area
·Provide access to breastfeeding support groups and breastfeeding consultants.
5. Community and Peer Support
·Foster a supportive environment among coworkers by promoting awareness of and acceptance of breastfeeding needs.
·Encourage partnerships with local health organizations to provide additional sources and support to breastfeeding
mothers.
6. Legal Compliance
·Compliance with the local and national laws on breastfeeding accommodation:
i.Republic Act. 10028 known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.
ii.Executive Order 51 known as the Milk Code.
a. this facility will prohibit the promotion or display of infant formula and related products, no gifts or
sponsorship from milk companies, as well as those in the marketing of baby bottles and artificial nipples.
· Ensures that all the policies are updated and evaluated regularly in accordance with the current laws and best practices.
7. Implementation
·The execution and enforcing of this policy are the responsibilities of the Municipal Health Office. All staff members will
receive a training to guarantee they comprehend the value of breastfeeding and how to assist breastfeeding mothers.
8. Comments and Suggestions
·The Municipal Health Office welcomes comments and suggestions on this policy and its implementation. The policy will
be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure the policy meets the needs of breastfeeding mothers and aligns with best
practices.
9. Conclusion
·As part of our mission to promote inclusivity, health, and well-being, we are dedicated to creating a breastfeeding-friendly
workplace.
