IMPLICIT CLAIM
• is indirectly expressed in the text
and you need to look for clues or
make inferences to understand
its meaning.
EXAMPLE
• His eyes reflect the colour of the
sky on a sunny day.
• The grass shock slightly in the
mild breeze, a sighing carpet of
green.

CLAIM OF FACT
• is a statement that asserts something
is true or false, and can be verified
with evidence. The goal of a claim of
fact is to persuade an audience that
something is true or should be
considered true.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:

• Does it exist?
• Is it true?
• How can its truthfulness be verified?
• Is it a fact?
EXAMPLE
• Cancer is not contagious.
• Video games lead to the increase of
violence among teens.
• Climate change is getting worse .
CLAIM OF POLICY
• Are specific and measurable actions that
need to be done in order to address
issues or concerns presented in an
argument or proposition. It argues that
certain conditions should exist or that
something should or should not be done
to solve a problem.
EXAMPLE
• A dress code should be introduced for
all students.
• President Duterte recalled order
allowing kids ages 10 to 14 outside
their homes.
CLAIM OF VALUE
• argues that something is good or
bad, or that one thing is better
than another thing. Are value
judgement made based on
morals, standards and norms.
EXAMPLE
• It is better to have loved and lost than
never to have loved at all.
• It’s better to apply good nutritional
choices at home than teach them at
school, because good nutrition then
becomes ingrained in the child’s
experience.
