Building strong interactions at school is essential for student success, particularly
for those from low-income households. Many of these students face challenges such as
home responsibilities, limited family resources, and social class hierarchies that affect
their engagement in school. Recent research emphasizes that low-income students
greatly benefit from forming personal relationships with at least one school staff member
who understands their interests, talents, and struggles. For instance, a study published
by (Kang, D., 2025) found that improving the quality of teacher-student relationships,
especially with boys, can enhance student engagement.
One problem the researchers might face is that there isn’t much information on
how extracurricular activities affect certain groups of students. Most research only talks
about students in general, but there isn’t a lot of data on students with disabilities,
international students, or those from low-income families. These students might have
different struggles, like difficulty joining activities because of money, cultural differences,
or accessibility issues. Since there isn’t enough information available, the researchers
might have a hard time finding details to support their study. Because of this, they might
have to collect their own data, which could take a lot of time and effort. To solve this
problem, the researchers could conduct surveys or interviews with students from these
groups to get real experiences from them. They could also look for other studies related
to education and student inclusion that might give helpful ideas about the challenges
these students face.
Another issue the researchers might deal with is that most information about
extracurricular activities mainly focuses on sports. There isn’t enough research about
other activities like music, art, and community service. These activities are also
important for students' growth, but they don’t get as much attention. Since there aren’t
many sources available, the researchers might find it hard to explain how these
activities help students with their academics, social skills, and emotions. To fix this, the
researchers could study students who join these activities and observe how it affects
them. They could also work with schools or groups that offer these programs to get
more information on how different extracurricular activities help students. By doing this,
the researchers can add new knowledge about extracurricular activities and help fill in
the missing information.
Nonetheless, Students often encounter challenges when participating in
extracurricular activities in school, such as sports, clubs, and events. Students might
experience a lack of time to management or balance their studies while attending
extracurricular activities, because of the loaded work Students might experience stress
and burnout due to the necessary tasks that need to finish. Students may also lose
some of their high grades because of the absences in some subjects, because it doesn't
mean that if you participated in extracurricular activities,
RESEARCH DESIGN
Phenomenological research design was chosen for this study to explore and
understand the lived experiences of challenges the students encountered when
participating in extracurricular activities while managing their academic responsibilities.
This approach allows for an in-depth examination of the challenges, perceptions, and
coping mechanisms of students, providing rich, firsthand insights that quantitative
methods may overlook. By focusing on individual experiences, the study aims to
capture the complexities and personal struggles associated with balancing
extracurricular involvement and academic performance.
