NATIONAL ARTIST FOR CINEMA /FILM GERARDO DE LEON Gerardo de León born on September12,1913 and died on July 25,1981 was a Filipino film director and actor. He was posthumously conferred as a National Artist of the Philippines for Film in 1982. De Leon produced a number of anti-American propaganda films during World War II, in collaboration with the occupying Japanese forces and Japanese director Yutaka Abe, who personally chose De Leon for the projects. 1961 AWARDS AND RECOGNITION Gerardo "Manong", de León is the most awarded film director in the history of the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences' FAMAS Awards. From 1952 to 1971, he was awarded seven FAMAS Awards, three of them received consecutively, His 1961 film The Moises Padlla Story was selected as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 32nd Academy Award LINO BROCKA 1997) Brocka was born in Pilar, Sorsogon. He grew up and lived in San Jose, Nueva Ecija and graduated from Nueva Ecija High School in 1956. He attended the University of the Philippines and began working in theatre, acting and directing plays where his career in cinema and television followed suit., Catalino "lino" brocka was a Filipino film director. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and significant Filipino filmmakers in the history of Philippine cinema He was a member of the Coalition for the Restoration of Democracy. He directed landmark films such as Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (1974), Manila in the Claws of Light (1975), Insiang (1976), Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim (1984), and Orapronobis (1989). His body of work consisted of popular and political melodramas. It won an award for best screenplay at the 1970 Manila Film Festival. Later that year he also won the Citizen's Council for Mass Media's best-director award for the film Santiago! Atthe same time, he garnered awards and recognition from institutions like the CCP, FAMAS, TOYM, and Cannes Film Festival Bernal was the son of Elena Bernal ISHAMAEL BERNAL and Pacifico Ledesma. He studied at University of the Philippines happines. He received his Diploma in Fim Directing in 1970 at the Fim Insittue of India in Poona. Ishmael Bernal was an avid fan of literature theater and classal music. During the 19605, Bernal put up When Its a Grey November in Yaur Soul Malate became oné of Manila's favorite watering holes. Ishnael Bernal directed and wote his fesfilm, Pagdating sa Duls (At the Topl in 1971. His fimography s mainly chustered around the themes and problems that encrust the socal as the core of personal malaise. A significant part of hs work is stores for women. ROMERO Romero was born on July 7, 1924. His father was José E. Romero, the first Philippine Ambassador to the Court of St. James's. His mother was Pilar Guzman Sinco, a schoolteacher and the sister of University of the Philippines President Vicente G. Sinco who signed the United Nations Charter in 1945 on behalf of the Philippines. Eddie Romero was a film EDDIE S. ROMERO director, film producer, and screenwriter who was declared a National Artist in 2003, with a body of work delving into the history and politics of the country. Among his most revered historical films include Ganito Kami Noon… Paano Kayo Ngayon?, Kamakalawa, and Banta ng Kahapon.
