Good morning, everyone.

When I was asked to think about something I cannot live without, I paused for a
bit. It’s not every day you sit down and reflect on what truly matters in your life:
family, friends, health, and even small things, like a hot cup of coffee on a cold
morning or the comforting sing the lyrics of your favourite song. But while
considering that question one thing came out for me. There is something deeply
inculcated with my daily life as of late that even the thought of a life without
leads to imagining unlikely weather. That "something" is my smartphone.
Oh really? A device? But hold your horses, just so you know what I mean. It is so
much more than just another piece of tech: my smartphone. It has evolved from
salvation into friend and efficacy in a tiny window before the universe changes.
Let me tell you why.
To begin with, my smartphone is my connection. I close the gap that distance has
in a world where it often becomes the divider. Whether it be texting my friends,
video-calling my family; or even good morning message, it helps me feel
somewhat closer-to for my friends and family. Whether they are miles or light
years away That reminds me of how in the silence of solitude I am not alone.
Connectivity is only the tip of the iceberg. My phone is a thing of infinite capacity.
It’s like my mom in the morning, ensuring I start my day on time. It’s my teacher,
neatly organizing my tasks, appointments, and help achieve goals. It’s where I
store my checklists, read school documents, and even learning new realms of
knowledge with just the touch of a button. In this single device, I carry a library,
a school, and 3 online tutoring class—all compactly fitted into the palm of my
hand.
And how about the moments of joy it provides? My smartphone is a gateway to
music that I love listening, movies that entertain me, and photos that captures
the best memories of my life. It guides me through places that I have never been
before with its maps, introduces me to new hobbies and skills through endless
tutorials, and yes, it even delivers my favourite pizza on those evenings when
cooking feels like too much of a chore. It’s far more than a mere gadget—it’s a
partner in my everyday adventures.
Yet, like any relationship, it’s not without its challenges. My smartphone and I
have had our rocky moments. There are days when I find myself glued to the
screen, scrolling endlessly without a purpose. Hours slip by before I even realize
how much of my time has been consumed. This over-reliance on my device can
feel overwhelming, even unhealthy at times. But what I’ve learned over the
years is that, as with any relationship, balance is key. I’ve made a conscious
effort to recognize when it’s time to put the phone down and simply be present.
Whether it’s spending quality time with loved ones, enjoying the beauty of
nature, or even just pausing to reflect on my thoughts, I’ve discovered the
importance of stepping away. It helps me return to my smartphone with a sense
of purpose—using it as the tool it was meant to be, rather than as a distraction.
Ultimately, my smartphone is more than just a piece of technology. It represents
connection, growth, and even a sense of comfort in a chaotic world. It’s the
bridge between my personal life and the wider world, offering tools, experiences,
and opportunities that enrich my existence. I could not imagine living without it—
not because it defines who I am, but because it enables me to be who I am. It
helps me stay organized, inspired, and close to the people and things I care
about most.
So, while some may dismiss a smartphone as just another gadget, to me, it’s a
lifeline. It reflects how far we’ve come as a society and how innovation has
shaped our lives in ways both big and small. It’s a reminder of how technology,
when used mindfully, can truly enhance our lives.
Thank you.
