1 Introduction

NTPC Ltd is a premier Maharatna public sector undertaking in the field of power generation. Govt. of
Madhya Pradesh has agreed to give NTPC approximately 500 hectares of revenue land in Mandsaur
district. 250 MW solar power project shall be implemented in a single EPC package under domestic
competitive bidding using domestically manufactured PV modules and cells. This specification is for the
development of a single solar block of 50 MW capacities. The intent of this document is to define complete
electrical technical requirements for design and engineering of Solar PV Power Plant at Mandsaur district,
Madhya Pradesh.

2 Purpose

This document describes the requirements for design and engineering of grid connected 50MW Solar
Photovoltaic power (PV) Plant at Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh.

3 Scope

This design basis establishes the requirements and guidelines governing design and engineering of grid
connected 50MW Solar Photovoltaic power (PV) Plant at Mandsaur district, Madhya Pradesh.

4 Codes, Standards and references

All parts of the design in the scope of work will meet the requirements of the applicable sections of the latest
edition of the following Codes and Standards:
The work shall be performed in conformity with the Specifications and Codes of
Practice of national and international standards.

5 Definitions

PV Cell: The basic device that converts sunlight directly into DC electricity.
PV Module/Panel: The smallest, complete, environmentally protected assembly of PV cells and related
components, such as connectors and mounting.
PV string: A number of modules or panels interconnected electrically in series to obtain the desired
operating voltage.
PV array: The smallest installed assembly of PV panels, support structure, foundation, and other
components as required
PV array subfield: One or more arrays associated by a distinguishing feature, such as field geometry or
electrical Interconnection.
PV array block: One or more arrays subfield, which its output, feed into one central inverter.
PV array field: The aggregate of all array subfields/block
HV: 33kV and above voltages
MV: above 1.1kV up to 33kV
LV: 1.1 kV and below

2. The Inverters shall also equipped with protection against GRID failure mode ( Anti islanding)
operation, over-current, earth fault, over –under voltage, over-under frequency and short circuits

safe against reverse power feeding under breakdown/shutdown of GRID line.

7.14 SCADA System

The SCADA based plant monitoring system with


i. Real-time acquisition and display of data, status, alarms and trends
ii. Display of status of major equipments in Single Line Diagram(SLD) format
iii. Control of switchgears and Inverters
iv. Display and storage of measured values
v. Display and storage of derived/calculated/integrated values
vi. Display and Storage of Alarm, Event and Trends
vii. Generate, store and retrieve user configurable Sequence of Event (SOE) Reports
viii. Generate, store and retrieve user configurable periodic Reports
ix. Remote monitoring of essential parameters on the web using standard modem (Internet connection
for transferring data to web shall be taken by Contractor in the name of NTPC Site for O & M period).
x. Control and monitoring of status of all the MV/HV/EHV Breakers and Inverters.
xi. System self-supervision

SCADA system continuously monitor and display the following data related to various equipment.
a) - Solar PV array
A - Solar irradiance daily & per month based on instantaneous irradiance readings
(kWh/m²/month)
B - Daily and monthly average ambient temperature based on instantaneous temperature
readings near array field
C - Module back surface temperature
D - Wind speed at the level of array panel
b) Power Conditioning Unit
A - DC Power input
B - DC Voltage
C - DC Current
D - AC Power output
E - AC Output voltage (all 3 phase and line)
F - AC Current (all 3 phase line current)

Each solar PV modules used in solar power plants/systems must be warranted for their output peak watt
capacity, which should not be less than 90% at the end of 10 years and 80% at the end of 25 years from the
completion of the trial run.

Inspector.
