The document provides guidelines for calculating bearing capacity of foundations with specified dimensions and depth, using Terzaghi’s formula. It includes empirical values for unit weight of granular and cohesive soils based on standard penetration tests, as well as typical soil characteristics and index properties. Additionally, it outlines methods for measuring unit weight in the laboratory and field.

Remarks: 1.N-value greater than 50, limit it to 50 2.Foundation size; LxB = 2mx2m and depth of foundation=1.5m, calculate the bearing capacity at 1.5m & 3m depth only. You can use Terzaghi’s formula 3.For unit weight & cohesion, you can follow the following relationships
Unit weight of a soil mass is the ratio of the total weight of
soil to the total volume of soil. Unit Weight, g, is usually determined in the laboratory by measuring the weight and volume of a relatively undisturbed soil sample obtained from a brass ring. Measuring unit weight of soil in the field may consist of a sand cone test, rubber balloon or nuclear densiometer.
