Exp 2B Stress Analysis of An 1D Simply Supported

The document outlines a procedure for conducting stress analysis on a simply supported beam element with specific dimensions and material properties under a uniformly distributed load. It details the steps for defining the beam, applying loads, and obtaining results using a software tool. The analysis aims to determine the maximum and minimum shear force and moment in the beam.

EX.

No : 2B STRESS ANALYSIS OF AN 1D SIMPLY SUPPORTED BEAM ELEMENT

For the given beam element, cross section of 30*45 length of 1500 mm having Young’s
Modulus 210 KN/mm2 and Poisson ratio 0.3.Conduct the stress analysis for the Simply
supported condition, having a Uniformly Distributed load of 5N/mm for the length of 500mm at
the distance of 500mm from the left end of the beam.

AIM: To analyze 1D simply supported beam element.

PROCEDURE:

The beam element is defined and meshed using following steps;

1. File>Change title
2. Main Menu >Preference>Select Structural and h-Method.
1. Preprocessor
2. Specify Element Type;
Main Menu > Preprocessor> Element Type > Add/Edit/Delete > Add.
Pick beam in the left field and 2 node 188 element right field>Ok.
3. Specify material properties;
Main Menu >Preprocessor>Material properties>Material models>
Structural>Linear>Elastic>Isotropic
EX=2.10 E 5
PRXY=0.3
4. Specify Sections;
Main Menu > Preprocessor >Sections >Beam >Common sections
ID >1 , sub-type >select square >
B > 30, H > 45 > Ok
5. Create the element.
Main Menu> Preprocessor>Modeling>Create>Nodes>In active CS

2 500 0 0 Apply
3 1000 0 0 Apply
4 1500 0 0 Ok

Main Menu> Preprocessor>Modeling>Create>Elements>Auto Numbered>Thru

Nodes>Select the Nodes 1 &2 > apply.
Select the Nodes 2 &3 > apply.
Select the Nodes 3 &4 > Ok.
METHOD -2
1. Create Key points;
Main Menu> Preprocessor>Modeling>Create>Key points>In active CS

key
X Y Z
POINTS
1 0 0 0 Apply
2 500 0 0 Apply
3 1000 0 0 Apply
4 1500 0 0 Ok
2. Create lines;
Preprocessor > Modeling > Create > Lines > Lines > In Active Coord. Select the key
points one by one to create the Line.
3. Create MESH;
Main Menu>Preprocessor>Meshing>Mesh Tool>Lines>Set>Select the Line>No. of
Element divisions =10.

6. Apply Loads
Main Menu > Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads > Apply > Structural >
Displacement >On Nodes>Click the node 1 and node 4>Arrest UX, UY, UZ, ROT X,
ROT Y >Ok
Main Menu > Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads > Apply > Structural >
Pressure >On beams>Click the portion (2, 3) >Ok>
Load key > 2, PRES value i =5 > Ok

METHOD -2
If The Element is created by Key points and Lines select all the elements between
key points 2and 3 to apply pressure loads.

To get the solution following steps are done;

7. Solution:
Main menu>Solution>Analysis Type>New Analysis> Static.
Solve>Current LS
