Why Calibrate?
• Sensors and other electronic devices on the antenna are not perfect.
• Even with high standards in manufacturing, each antenna are not similar in
tolerances.
• Calibration is performed to account for such tolerances.
• The following calibrations are recommended for the v-series platform.
− Bow offset
− EL Adjust
− Rate Sensor Bias
− Conical Scan

Bow offset (1/10)
1. Double-checking on GPS / Heading Device to ACU.
− On SETUP 🡪 Ship menu
− Or on DASHBOARD 🡪 Ship Info menu

Bow offset (6/10)
6. Then click ‘Load Satellite’

7. Ensure antenna perform Search 1 for gyro-free search after ‘initialization’

Bow offset (7/10)
8. During the Search 1, antenna will be rotating to find the satellite. Once find
satellite, check antenna status – Tracking with RX Lock symbol.

− Antenna can verify Signal Level of Tracking Frequency and RX Lock by

CM(Modem) for the Target Satellite.

EL Adjust (1/4)
• Why is EL Adjust performed?
− EL Adjust is performed to offset the angle difference.
− If not adjusted, the antenna may take a longer time for search.

1. Verify that the system is stable in network.

− Check the tracking condition
− Check the signal strength
− Check the Lock condition

EL Adjust (2/4)
2. Go to DASHBOARD 🡪 Antenna Angle to check if there is any difference between
Absolute EL and Target EL angle.
− If more than 0.5 degrees difference you must do an EL adjust.

− In example, the difference is about 3 degrees.

2. EL Adjust (4/5)
3. Enter to Setup mode to calibrate EL adjust.

© 2020 Intellian Proprietary & Confidential

EL Adjust (5/5)
• In Setup Mode, adjust it to be within 0.5 degrees by checking Antenna Angle
on Dashboard.

• Click Restart to exit Setup mode to go Tracking.

4. Calibration – Rate Sensor Bias
Module 06. Calibration

© 2020 Intellian Proprietary & Confidential

Rate Sensor Bias (1/5)
• Why is Rate Sensor Bias adjusted?
− Rate Sensors provides movement information of the antenna.
− The antenna’s rate sensors are calibrated to provide the system an exact point
of no movement reference.

• Only when it has NO movement of the ship, Rate Sensor Bias can be
calibrated.

Rate Sensor Bias (2/5)
1. Enter to Setup mode to calibrate Rate Sensor Bias.

Rate Sensor Bias (3/5)
2. Go to SETUP 🡪 Antenna to check current Rate Sensor Bias value. and then
click Rate Sensor Calibration button.

Rate Sensor Bias (4/5)
3. Click Rate Sensor Calibration button.

4. Then the indication turns green color from blue, which means antenna is
adjusting rate bias value.

5. Calibration – Conical Scan
Module 06. Calibration

© 2020 Intellian Proprietary & Confidential

Conical Scan (1/5)
• Conical Scan
− That which maintains stable tracking condition by making circle by comparing
left and right signal, top and bottom signal.
• Circle size is determined by conical scan range
− If the range is too small, drift comes easily by rate sensor bias offset
− If the range is too big, pointing accuracy will be low

Conical Scan (2/5)
• Normal Elevation (under 75 degree): AZ and EL maintains correct pointing by
conical scan. CL use tilt sensor.
• High Elevation (over 75 degree): CL and EL maintains correct pointing by
conical scan. AZ use heading.

1. Go to SETUP 🡪 Antenna 🡪 Conical Range Check

− To check the current conical range value.

Conical Scan (3/5)
2. Verify that the system is stable in network.

3. Enter to Setup mode to adjust conical scan.

Conical Scan (4/5)
4. Click On and then apply button.

5. Mechanical reference values are displayed.

Conical Scan (5/5)
6. These values should be more than the Target Value
Model
target values on table below. AZ EL

V85NX 21 26

V100NX/GX100NX 25 30

GX60NX 18 24

7. Set Conical Range value and Click

Apply, then check the AZ EL scan value.

8. Repeat this process until displaying AZ,

EL Scan values to be as similar as
possible to the Target values.
