Lesson Plan: Computer Basics & Fun with Paint (Grade

2)
1. Introduction (5-7 minutes)
 Start by asking: "What do you remember about computers from Grade 1?"
 Briefly review:
o What a computer is.
o Basic parts (monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse).
o Simple computer functions (typing, drawing, watching videos).

Part 1: Computer Devices (10 minutes)


Introduce the four main types of computer devices using real examples and images:
1. Input Devices – Help us give instructions to the computer.
o Examples: Keyboard, Mouse, Microphone, Scanner.
o Activity: Show a keyboard and mouse; let students press keys and move the
mouse.
2. Processing Device – The CPU (brain) of the computer processes the instructions.
o Explain that the CPU works like their brain, thinking and solving problems.
3. Output Devices – Show the result of the computer’s work.
o Examples: Monitor (shows pictures), Printer (prints documents), Speakers
(play sound).
o Activity: Show how speakers play sounds and how a printer prints a
document.
4. Storage Devices – Save data for later use.
o Examples: Hard Disk, USB Drive, CD/DVD.
o Activity: Show a USB drive and explain how it saves files.

Part 2: Working with Computers (10 minutes)


A. How to Start a Computer
1. Press the Power Button on the CPU and Monitor.
2. Wait for the Operating System (Windows) to load.
B. Desktop & Start Menu
 Explain the desktop screen (Icons, Taskbar, Start Button).
 Show how to open an application using the Start Menu.
C. How to Shut Down a Computer
1. Click on the Start Button.
2. Select Shut Down.
3. Wait for it to turn off completely.
👉 Activity: Let students take turns turning the computer on and off properly.

Part 3: Applications of Computers (10 minutes)


1. Differences Between Humans and Computers
o Humans: Can think, feel, and make mistakes.
o Computers: Work fast, do not feel emotions, follow instructions exactly.
2. Types of Computers
o Desktop Computers, Laptops, Tablets, Smartphones.
3. Uses of Computers
o In schools (learning, typing, drawing).
o In offices (writing documents, sending emails).
o In homes (playing games, watching videos).
👉 Activity: Ask students, "Where have you seen computers being used?"

Part 4: The Keyboard & Mouse (10 minutes)


 Keyboard Functions
o Alphabet Keys (A-Z) for typing.
o Number Keys (0-9) for numbers.
o Spacebar, Enter, Backspace, Shift, Arrow Keys.
o Activity: Ask students to find and press specific keys on a real keyboard.
 Mouse Functions
o Left Click: Select items.
o Right Click: Shows options.
o Scroll Wheel: Moves up and down.
o Activity: Let students practice clicking and dragging using the mouse.

Main Topic: Fun with Paint (20 minutes)


A. How to Start Paint
1. Click the Start Button.
2. Search for Paint and click to open.
B. Components of the Paint Window
 Title Bar – Shows the file name.
 Ribbon – Has tools (brush, shapes, colors).
 Drawing Area – Where we draw.
C. Using Paint Tools
 Pencil & Brushes – For freehand drawing.
 Eraser – To erase mistakes.
 Shapes – To draw circles, squares, and triangles.
 Fill Tool – To add color inside shapes.
 Text Tool – To write in Paint.
👉 Activity: Let students draw a simple house using different tools.
D. How to Open, Save, and Close Paint
1. To Save a Picture: Click File > Save As > Choose Location > Type File Name >
Click Save.
2. To Open a Saved Picture: Click File > Open > Select File.
3. To Close Paint: Click File > Exit.
👉 Activity: Let students save their drawing, then open and continue it.

Recap & Quiz (5 minutes)


Ask students:
 "What are input and output devices?"
 "How do we start and shut down a computer?"
 "What tools can we use in Paint?"
 "How do we save a picture?"

Final Activity: Fun Drawing Challenge (5 minutes)


 Give students a simple topic (e.g., draw a flower or a rainbow).
 Let them use Paint and be creative!
