Introductory Message

For the facilitator:


Welcome to the TLE 10 Module on Installing & Starting to Work in Adobe
Photoshop!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by teachers


of Pagadian City Science High School to assist and helping the learners meet the
standards set by Department of Education while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.

Welcome to the TLE 10 Photo Editing Module 1 on Installing and Starting
to Work in Adobe Photoshop!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities
for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:


What I Need This will give you an idea of the skills or competencies you
to Know are expected to learn in the module.

What I Know This part includes an activity that aims to check what you
already know about the lesson to take. If you get all the
answers correct (100%), you may decide to skip this

In this module, you’ll learn how to open Adobe Photoshop files, select and use
some of the tools in Tools panel. This lesson will take about four hours to complete.
After going through this module, you are expected to install and open an Adobe
Photoshop files and explore basic elements of this application.

What’s New

Adobe Photoshop CS6, the benchmark for digital imaging excellence, provides
strong performance, powerful image-editing features, and an intuitive interface. Adobe
Camera Raw, included with Photoshop CS6, offers flexibility and control as you work with
raw images as well as TIFF and JPEG images. Photoshop CS6 pushes the boundaries
of digital image editing and helps you turn your dreams into designs more easily than ever
before.
Before you begin using Adobe Photoshop CS6, make sure that your system is set
up correctly and that you’ve installed the required software and hardware. You need to
accomplish Activity 4 before you can start using the software and start editing your
images.

Activity 4 – Installing Adobe Photoshop


Directions: Follow the step by step procedure below in installing Adobe Photoshop CS6.
1. Using your computer (Desktop/Laptop), go to your web browser and enter the
following link: http://bit.ly/AdobeCS6download
2. Download and save the file in your computer.
3. After downloading, locate your file, unzip it and open the folder “Photoshop CS6
Portable”.
4. Inside the folder, double click PSCS6 with an application type file.
5. An Adobe window appear, and select/click en_US.
6. Wait the Adobe User Control to appear and click YES and you’re done!

Activity 5 - Watch Out! Get to Know Me!
Directions: Explore the following basic elements with their sub menus in an Adobe
Photoshop as indicated in the picture above.
1. Menu Bar – is used to open and save files, adjust the canvas size, access some
of the editing tools, open and close various windows, and more.
2. Options Bar – is the horizontal bar that runs underneath the Menu Bar in
Photoshop. You can turn it on and off through the Windows menu, so if you don’t
see it on your screen, you definitely want to turn it on with Window > Options.
3. Tools Panel – is the long, narrow panel on the far left side of the work area. It
contains selection tools, painting and editing tools, foreground- and background
color, selection boxes, and viewing tools.
4. Mini Bridge Tab – gives you easy access to images right inside Photoshop
5. Timeline Tab – will allow you to add effects to your video clips directly in
Photoshop
6. Workspaces Menu –is a preset layout for the various elements that make up
Photoshop's interface. Workspaces determine which of Photoshop's panels are
displayed on your screen and how those panels are arranged. A workspace can
also change which tools are available in the Toolbar and how the Toolbar is
organized.
7. Panels – Panels help you manage, monitor, and modify images. Some panels
have menus that provide additional commands and options.
List down all the submenus under the following elements:

Activity 6 – Opening a File
Directions: Follow the procedure below in opening a file in an Adobe Photoshop CS6.
1. On your PC/laptop, open a web browser and go to this URL:
http://www.peachpit.com/ebookfiles/013301164X
2. Download the ZIP file (or files) from the web site to your hard drive.
3. Unzip the ZIP files. All the practice files used throughout this module can be
located in the link above.
4. To begin opening a file, go back to your Adobe Photoshop application.
5. Choose File>Open, and navigate to the Lessons/Lesson01 folder that you copied
to your hard drive from the link provided in Step number 1.
6. Select the 01A_End.psd file, and click Open. Click OK if you see the Embedded
Profile Mismatch dialog box.
Note:The 01A_End.psd file opens in its own window, called the image window. The end
files in this book show you what you are creating in each project. In this file, an image of a
vintage car has been enhanced without overexposing the headlight.
