Weight of each part Part I (9 %) Part III (18 %) Total (30%)

Part I. Choose the best answer from the alternative provide for you (1%).
1. From the following which one is an example of primary solid fuel type?
a. Charcoal b. wood c. kerose d. biogas
2. The mass of mixture is the sum of mass of each components according to ______.
a. gravimetric analysis b. molar anaylisis c. mole fraction d. all
3. The temperature at which condensation begins when the air is cooled at constant pressure is ____
a. dry bulb temp. b. wet bulb temp. c. dew point temp d. atmospheric temp.
4. the best definition for thermodynamics is it’s a means of converting
a. fluid into power b. power into heat c. heat into power d. power into fluid motion

Part II. Workout this question neatly and write all your assumptions clearly.

1. Consider a gas mixture that consists of 5 kg of O2, 7 kg of N2, and 12 kg of methane, Determine (a)
the mass fraction of each component, (b) the mole fraction of each component (6%).
2. Propane fuel is burned with 75 percent excess air during a combustion process. Assuming
complete combustion, determine
a. mole fractions of each of the products (3%).
b. the mass of water in the products per unit mass of the fuel (2%).
c. air–fuel ratio (3%).
3. A 5-m x5-m x 3-m room contains air at 25°C and 100 kPa at a relative humidity of 75
percent. Determine (a) the partial pressure of dry air, (b) the specific humidity, (c) the
enthalpy per unit mass of the dry air, and (d) the masses of the dry air and water vapor in the
room (6%).
4. Consider a room that contains air at 1 atm, 40 percent relative humidity and the temperature
at which dew start to form on windows of room is 25 ℃ . Using the psychrometric chart,
determine (a) the specific humidity, (b) the enthalpy, (c) the wet-bulb temperature, (d) dry
bulb temperature, and (e) the specific volume of the air (6%).
5. Determine the enthalpy of combustion of heptane gas at 25°C and 1 atm, Assume the water
in the products is in the liquid form.
6. Explain and list the reason for incomplete combustion.
7. Define clearly about excess and Stoichiometric air of combustion.
8. Explain air condition process such as simple heating, simple cooling, humidification,
dehumidification, heating with humidification and cooling with dehumification on
psychometric chart.
