1. The maximum velocity of a particle , executing simple harmonic motion with an

amplitude of 7 mm, is 4.4 m/s .What is the period of oscillation?(0.01s)
2. A spring of force constant k is cut into two pieces, such that one piece is double the
length of the other. What is the force constant of the longer piece of the spring?(3/2k)
3. What is the ratio between the potential energy and the total energy of a particle executing
S.H.M , when its displacement is half of its amplitude?(1/4)
4. What is the total distance travelled by a body executing S.H.M in a time equal to its time
period, if its amplitude is A?
5. Does the function y=sin2wt represent a periodic or a simple harmonic motion? What is
the period of the motion?
6. A simple pendulum is hung in a stationary lift and its periodic time is T .What will be the
effect on its periodic time T if
(i) Lift goes up with a uniform velocity v
(ii) Lift goes up with a uniform acceleration a
(iii) Lift comes down with a uniform acceleration a
7. Alcohol in a U-tube executes S.H.M of time period T .Now alcohol is replaced by water
up to the same height in the U-tube. What will be the effect on the time period?
8. The length of a simple pendulum executing SHM is increased by 21%.What is the
percentage increase in the period of the pendulum of increased length. (10.5%)
9. A block is resting on a piston which is moving vertically with simple harmonic motion of
period 1 s. At what amplitude of motion will the block and piston separate? What is the
maximum velocity of the piston at this amplitude?(0.248m,1.56m/s)
10. A tray of mass 12 kg is supported by two identical springs. When the tray is pressed
down slightly and released it executes SHM with a time period of 1.5 s. What is a force
constant of each spring? When a block of mass m is placed on the tray, the period of
SHM changes to 3s. What is the mass of the block?(105.17 N/m, 36 kg)
11. A second’s pendulum is taken in carriage. Find the period of oscillation when the
carriage moves with acceleration of 4m/s2 (a) vertically upwards (b) vertically
downwards and (c) in a horizontal direction. (1.69 s, 2.59 s, 1.92 s)
12. A sphere is hung with a wire. 30 degree rotation of the sphere about the wire generates a
restoring torque of 4.6 Nm. If the moment of inertia of the sphere is 0.082 kg m2, deduce
the frequency of angular oscillations. (1.65 Hz)
13. A bob of pendulum of length l is pulled aside from its equilibrium position through an
angle Ɵ and then released. Find the speed v with which the bob passes through
equilibrium position.
14. If a particle executes SHM of time period 4 s and amplitude 2 cm, find its maximum
velocity and that at half its full displacement. Also find the acceleration at the turning
