The Hidden Slytherin
The Hidden Slytherin
Summary
The applause in the Great Hall slowly died down as the last first years was sorted. Hermione
politely smiled as the last first year went to Hufflepuff.
There was still a quiet sadness from the year before when Cedric Diggory dying and Harry
claiming Voldemort returned.
Professor McGonagall was about to pick up the Sorting Hat when it opened its mouth again.
“Hermione Granger.”
Hermione looked up at the hat, small smile dropping. Slowly every eye in the Great Hall
turned in her direction. Hermione looked between Ron and Harry, who looked just as
confused as she felt.
Notes
Trigger warnings will be in the notes at the END of each chapter, though I will advise you to
check the end notes at the beginning of each chapter. At the beginning of the NEXT
CHAPTER, I will include a brief summary of what happened during the TW section. Please
make sure to take care of yourselves.
Also I am American and may occasionally write something that the British might not
normally say, so sorry in advance.
I do not own an of the characters or original 7 books' story lines. Fuck J.K. Rowling.
The applause in the Great Hall slowly died down as the last first years was sorted. Hermione
politely smiled as the last first year was sorted into Hufflepuff.
There was still a quiet sadness from the year before when Cedric Diggory dying and Harry
claiming Voldemort returned.
Professor McGonagall was about to pick up the Sorting Hat when it opened its mouth again.
“Hermione Granger.”
Hermione looked up at the hat, small smile slowly dropping. Slowly every eye in the Great
Hall turned in her direction. Hermione looked between Ron and Harry, who looked just as
confused as she felt.
With one more glance at her best friends, Hermione stood shakily and slowly approached the
stool with the Hat resting on it. She tried to hold her chin in the air and appear unaffected, but
she doubted she succeeded. Every single person in the Great Hall was silent.
“Well,” the Hat said, sounding slightly impatient. “Don’t just stand there.”
Hermione shook herself and lifted the Hat. Sitting down on the stool, she set the Hat on her
head. Nothing happened for a few seconds; Hermione just sat there, feeling awkward. She
remembered the Hat talking to her for a couple minutes when she first arrived at Hogwarts.
Hat stalls were rare, but she had been one.
Welcome back, Miss Granger. I must apologize, both for the dramatics and for placing you in
the wrong house four years ago.
You were meant to be in a different house, destined for it since birth, in fact. I did not
recognize it before, but now it is clear.
You are here because your fate is now able to be recognized by me.
“Why wasn’t it before?”
Your magic was tampered with until recently. It has finally been fully unlocked.
Hermione felt the Hat vibrate on her head as if it were chuckling. You are reminding me why I
almost sorted you into Ravenclaw. Ultimately, that is not where you belong. No, your true
House will be a challenge for you, but I have full faith that you will flourish, now that you
have the opportunity and the toolbox needed to survive there.
There were a few more seconds of silence where the only sound Hermione could hear was
her accelerated breathing. As Professor McGonagall lifted the Sorting Hat off Hermione’s
head, the sight of the students’ reactions was gradually revealed. Hermione sat frozen for a
moment, surveying the Great Hall. Some people stared at her, mouths agape, while the
majority were whispering to their neighbors.
Looking back at the Gryffindor table, reactions ranged from fury to disgust. She was
surprised by the amount of disgust coming from her House mates, or rather, her former
House mates.
Harry’s eyes were wide in shock. Ron looked disgruntled, lips curling up in disagreement
with the Hat. He turned to Harry and said something, hands flapping around.
“Miss Granger,” Professor McGonagall said gently from behind her. She placed a hand on
her shoulder. “I believe it is time to go join your new House.” The older witch sounded
devastated that she had to say that.
Hermione looked over at her shoulder. Her eyes were starting to sting.
Professor McGonagall’s expression was one of pity. Hermione always hated being pitied, but
it cut deep coming from her favorite professor.
Hermione looked at the professor desperately, eyes begging for her to do something.
Hermione took a moment to try to get her expression under control enough to face her peers,
hopefully without embarrassing herself.
She turned back around, breath shaky. She took a deep breath and gathered her courage.
The vast majority of the other students, across all four Houses, were still discussing her
resorting.
Hermione stood and slowly made her way to the Slytherin table, chin in the air. She sat at the
end of table, closest to the staff table and by the newly-sorted First Years.
Professor McGonagall grabbed the Hat hurriedly, as if afraid the Hat would call another
student to resort them. Hermione tried to spot Harry and Ron at the Gryffindor table again,
but couldn’t from where she was sitting. Many of the students were looking at her again. The
stares and glares from the rest of the Slytherins burned into her skull. Looking over at the
staff table, the professors’ reactions mirrored that of the rest of those in the Great Hall. Snape,
her new Head of House, had a single eyebrow raised. Dumbledore’s expression was blank
except for slightly narrowed eyes behind his half-moon spectacles; Hermione couldn’t
imagine why.
Dumbledore rose from his seat. Lifting his wand, he rested it against his throat and cast a
sonorous, projecting his voice for everyone to hear him.
“Well, I think we can all agree that after…our extended sorting,” the headmaster said, “that
we are all ravenous. Let the feast begin.” He clapped his hands twice and food appeared in
front of everybody.
Hermione was hungry, but she wasn’t sure if she would be able to hold anything down now,
her stomach was twisted in knots so much. She looked down at her lap, hands fidgeting, and
was taken aback by her robes. No longer were they rimmed in Gryffindor red, but instead in
Slytherin green.
Chapter 2
Chapter Notes
Theo and Draco exchanged a look, then looked toward the end of the table to see Granger
sitting with the first-years. Almost every other person at the Slytherin table was looking at
her too, even the first-years. Granger looked up and made eye contact with a few people,
including Draco. Her eyelids fluttered in embarrassment as she looked back down to her
food, a deep blush rising on her cheeks.
“Think about it,” Theo said, rolling his eyes. “Granger is now part of Slytherin. We’ll see her
in the common room, possibly every day.”
“And?”
“And,” Theo huffed, “we have an excuse to get close to her now.”
“Why would we want to do that?” Draco asked before taking a sip of water and avoiding
Theo’s gaze.
“‘Why would–’ because, babe,” Theo whispered, “I know we both like her, so we should do
something about it.”
“I know you like her. I like her too. This is our chance to get to know her and make her like
us. ”
Draco just stared at his boyfriend. He looked around to see if anyone was listening. When he
was reassured no one was, he turned back to Theo and whispered, “I’m afraid I don’t know
what you mean.”
Theo rolled his eyes and huffed. “Honestly, Draco, don’t play coy. I know you like her.”
“I love you .”
“I know.” Theo gently squeezed Draco’s hand under the table. “But you also fancy Granger.
You’ve never been able to hide your thoughts from me, so it’s not hard to tell.”
“Excuse you, I’ve always been observant,” Theo said, slightly affronted. “I just don’t
typically flaunt that. I’d be a bad Slytherin if I did.”
Draco conceded on that point. He glanced back over his shoulder to where Granger sat. She
had curled in on herself as best as one can on a bench at a table.
“They also wouldn’t like us dating,” Theo pointed out. “We’re already damned, we might as
well have fun while we can and do what we want.”
Theo made to get up, presumably to go talk to Granger, but Draco fisted his robe sleeve and
yanked him back down.
“Don’t be stupid,” Draco hissed. “Our parents will disown us, if not worse.”
Theo looked at him skeptically. “We’re their only heirs, they wouldn’t disown us, even if they
did somehow find out.”
“If you try to interact with her in public, then they’ll definitely find out. All we need is one
letter home from a peer and our parents will show up on the doorstep of Hogwarts to pull our
arses out of school and transfer us away to a different school–possibly different schools than
each other.”
Theo considered Draco’s words for a moment. “Simple! We make contingency plans.” Theo
grinned, looking pleased with himself.
Sorry for not uploading for...ages. I recently moved into a new house. and we got a
cat!!! Her name is Chloe, she's one, and a very fluffy ragdoll cat.
Is it bad that I am wanting to write two new fics: Snape is her dad; Hermione and
several of the boys have a bond with her (like where she's a conduit and the center of
magic with other people to magically support her)?
I need to be stopped.
Updated 3/5 fics today, so enjoy! I am hoping to upload my veela Draco and my 8th
year Dreomione fic soon, but they tend to have longer chapters than my other fics, so
they're taking a bit longer :/
“Miss Granger.”
Hermione jumped at Snape’s voice behind her. She turned around and met the appraising
gaze of the potions professor.
“Come with me.” Professor Snape turned around and walked away without preamble, black
robes billowing behind him.
Hermione scrambled up from the Slytherin table and scurried after him. She chanced a glance
over to the Gryffindor table. She met the accusing glare of Ron. Her heart sank. Turning her
gaze to Harry, she was met with the half-concerned, half-confused gaze of her other best
friend; based on Ron’s expression, though, she might be down to one best friend, if she was
lucky enough to still have Harry after everyone got over their shock and tried to work out
how this could happen, that is.
Hermione wasn’t short–average height at about five foot six–but she had to jog slightly to
keep up with Snape’s purposeful gliding down to the dungeons. They arrived at Snape’s
office and he led her in, holding the door for her, then slamming it shut, making her jump
again.
Snape slowly walked around behind his desk and sat down. He leaned forward to rest his
elbows on his desk, steepling his hands under his chin, fingers intertwined together. He stared
at Hermione. After a couple seconds, she started squirming under his assessing gaze.
“Professor–” Hermione started to say, but Snape held up a hand to silence her. He returned
his hand to under his chin.
Hermione stood there awkwardly, trying to distract herself from her confusion and anxiety by
looking around Snape’s office. Finally, after several minutes and a heavy sigh, Snape spoke.
Hermione returned her attention to him.
“Miss Granger, I do not believe I need to tell you how… unprecedented your resorting is?”
he asked.
“Sir?”
“What I mean, Miss Granger, is that you are a muggleborn witch who has recently been
resorted into Slytherin House, a House that is known for consisting mainly of purebloods,
with the odd half-blood here and there. I think we can both agree that, unfortunately, you will
be in social and possibly physical danger in your new…designation.”
Hermione gulped. She took a shaky breath. “Professor, might you have any idea why this has
happened to me?”
Snape looked at her, making Hermione feel as if he was staring into her soul.
“Do you think the headmaster might? He didn’t look too pleased, but also like he might know
something and be able to help?”
Snape narrowed his eyes almost imperceptibly. “Perhaps. I will look into it.” He stood and
motioned for Hermione to follow him. “Come, Miss Granger, let us get you to your room.”
Hermione followed Snape out of his office and into the common room. He led her into a
corridor on the right side of the common room. He was able to go up the half a dozen stairs to
the hallway with the girls’ dorms, which surprised Hermione; the stairs to the girls’ dorms in
Gryffindor turned into a slide if boys tried to sneak in there, but she supposed that, since he
was a professor and head of house, that Snape would be able to enter the hall with no
problems.
They walked halfway down the hallway until they came to a door with a plaque with the
number 5 on it. Snape knocked on the door, but Hermione wasn’t paying attention, for at the
end of the hall, a door was slowly coming into existence.
You got two chapter updates today! I think that this fic will have shorter chapters than
my others.
So sorry I've been MIA for MONTHS. This story is not abandoned. I promise.
Btw if anyone makes any covers for any of my fics (but 100% not expecting this to
happen) or art, then feel free to post it somewhere did comment the link and I'll check it
out and add it to the next uploaded chapter :) I just like graphic design lol
Yes, this update for this fic is verryyy short so sorry? but yeah
Severus Snape had seen a lot of strange things in his 35 years of life, but muggleborn
Hermione Granger getting restored into Slytherin had to take the cake. He couldn’t deny that
the girl had some Slytherin tendencies–she had set him on fire at age 12, and brewed
polyjuice potion at age 13, for god’s sake. That didn’t mean that he ever would have thought
the Sorting Hat would have called her up to get resorted halfway through her academic career
at Hogwarts.
But he supposed he shouldn’t’ve been as surprised as he was when the door at the end of the
hall appeared.
Miss Granger slowly made her way toward the materializing door, head slightly tilted in
obvious curiosity. Severus silently followed her, curious himself. He had only heard about
this door in legends, and was anxious and delighted to discover it seemed as if this particular
Hogwarts legend was real.
As they approached the almost fully-formed door, Miss Granger shakily reached her hand out
to touch it. Part of Severus thought to stop her, but his gut told him that she wouldn’t be too
terribly harmed, and he had learned to trust his gut years ago.
Miss Granger touched the door, then gasped and pulled her hand back. Severus came up
beside her and gently took her hand, inspecting it. The door had pulled a blood sample from
her.
An idea came to Severus. He Accio ed some bandages and a flannel, then went to work
cleaning Miss Granger’s hand. He carefully wrapped the flannel up after cleaning the wound.
After he wrapped her hand, he released her. Not once did she take her eyes off the door,
eyebrows crinkled together in contemplation.
“Professor?”
Severus stuffed the flannel in his robe pocket. “Miss Granger?”
She turned to look at him, confusion, concern, and curiosity evident on her face.

Sometimes I forget that there is nothing stopping a chapter from being two
sentences...so there ya go XD
Chapter 6
Chapter Notes
Ummm hi.
I felt like writing some and figured I'd update this fic. I've been reading some protective
Tom fics the last couple days, and I got a bit of motivation to work on this fic.
Hermione slowly opened the mysterious door. As soon as she walked over the threshold, she
felt a massive pressure in her head, as if someone was physically trying to dig through her
brain and pull it out of her skull.
“Miss Granger!”
Hermione heard Professor Snape as if she were underwater. Respect toward teachers and
other authority figures demanded she turn and pay attention to him, but the pounding in her
head forbade her from focusing on anything other than the pain she was currently in.
She could barely hear him over the screaming. It took her a moment to realize it was her that
was screaming.
The last thing she saw before she passed out was the potion master’s dark eyes looking at her
with concern and confusion.
*******
As his new Slytherin student’s eyes rolled into the back of her head and she crumpled to the
floor, Severus automatically caught her before she could hit her head on the concrete of the
dungeon. He was baffled as to what could possibly be going on. Severus had heard of myths
of secret rooms only certain people could access; he was starting to think the myths had some
truth to them. After all, the Chamber of Secrets was proven to be real just a couple years
prior. What’s to say it was the only myth that truly existed in the thousand-year-old castle?
Severus awkwardly lifted Miss Granger up into his arms. His gaze flicked across the room,
taking it in quickly. He saw a bed and walked over to it and deposited his student on it.
Waving his wand, he ran a couple diagnostic spells over her. Physically she was fine.
Mentally was another issue.
He couldn’t see exactly what she was experiencing, but the brain activity readings were
concerning; they were all over the place and fluctuating at weird intervals.
“Wrinkly!” Severus barked.
A second later, a house elf in a pillowcase with the Hogwarts crest appeared.
“How cans Wrinkly be serving Master Snape?” the old elf asked in a croak.
“I need you to watch Miss Granger,” he ordered. “I need to run some tests. I will be back
shortly. Alert me if her condition changes.”
The house elf nodded and turned his attention to the girl.
With a wave of his hand, Severus summoned a small phial. Pulling the bandage on her hand
back, he siphoned a couple drops of Miss Granger’s blood and guided it into the jar. With a
twirl of his black cloak, he spun around and hastily stalked to his personal potions lab.
