General Instructions:
 The question paper comprises five Sections A, B, C, D and E.
 There are 16 questions in the question paper. All questions are compulsory.
 Section - A question no. 1 to 6- all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each. These
questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions and
assertion - reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in one word or one
sentence.
 Section - B question no.7 to 10 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks each.
Answers to these questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
 Section - C question no. 11 is short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks. Answers to
this question should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
 Section - D question no. 12 & 13 are competency based / source based / diagram based /
higher order thinking skill questions. Each question carries 4 marks each.
 Section - E question no. 14 to 16 are long answer type questions carrying 05 marks each.
Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
 All questions have to be answered.
 Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.
SECTION A (6 X 1 = 6)
1. A positron enters a uniform magnetic field at right angles to it as shown. The direction of force
experienced by the positron will be:

(a) to the right (b) to the left (c) into the page (d) out of the page
2. Which of the following statements are usually correct for carbon
compounds. These:
(i) are good conductors of electricity
(ii) are poor conductors of electricity
( (iii) have strong forces of attraction between their molecules
(iv) do not have strong forces of attraction between their molecules

a) (i) and (iv) b) (ii) and (iii) c) (ii) and (iv) d) (i) and (iii)

3. According to the image showing a food web:

(a) Fox feeds on hawk to obtain energy.

(b) Hawk feeds on oak acorn to obtain energy.
1
(c) Squirrel feeds on pine borer to obtain energy.
(d) Salamander feeds on pine borer to obtain energy.
Directions: Q. no 4 to 6 are Assertion - Reasoning based questions.
These questions consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these
questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
(e) Both A and R are false.
4. Assertion (A) : Magnetic field lines do not intersect each other.
Reason (R) : Magnetic field lines are imaginary lines, the tangent to which at any point gives
the direction of the field at that point.
5. Assertion (A) : Mineral acids are stronger acids than carboxylic acids.
Reason (R) : Carboxylic acid acids are completely ionised.
6. Assertion (A) : The sex of a child in human beings will be determined by the type of
chromosome he/she inherits from the father.
Reason (R) : A child who inherits ‘X’ chromosome from his father would be a girl (XX), while a
child who inherits a ‘Y’ chromosome from the father would be a boy (XY).
SECTION B (4 X 2= 8)
7. i) Draw two structural isomers of butane .
ii) Draw the structure of propanol and propanone.
8. Consider a circular loop of thick copper wire lying horizontally on a table. Let the current
pass through the loop anticlockwise. Draw the magnetic field lines to show the direction and
the pattern of the magnetic field inside and outside the loop.
9. A Mendelian experiment consisted of breeding pea plants bearing violet flowers with pea
plants bearing white flowers. What will be the result in F1 progeny?
10. In what two ways are the organisms occupying the highest trophic level at a disadvantage as
compared to the organisms of the lower trophic levels?
SECTION C (1 X 3 = 3)
11. A blue colour flower plant denoted by BB is cross-bred with that of white colour flower plant
denoted by bb.
(a) State the colour of flower you would expect in their F1 generation plants.
(b) What must be the percentage of white flower plants in F2 generation if flowers of F1 plants
are self-pollinated?
(c) State the expected ratio of the genotypes BB and Bb in the F2 progeny.
SECTION D (2 X 4 = 8)
12. The table below shows the hints given by the quiz master in a quiz.
(i) Substance C is used as a preservative.
(ii) C has two carbon atoms; C is obtained by the reaction of A in the presence of alkaline
potassium permanganate followed by acidification.

2
(iii) Misuse of A in industries is prevented by adding methanol, benzene, and pyridine to A.
(iv) F is formed on heating A in the presence of cone, sulphuric acid
(v) F reacts with hydrogen gas in the presence of nickel and palladium catalysts.
Based on the above hints, answer the following questions.
(a) Give the IUPAC names of A and F.
(b) Illustrate with the help of chemical equations, the changes taking place. (A → C and A → F)
13. (a) What is a solenoid? Draw a diagram to show the pattern of magnetic field around a current
carrying solenoid. Name the region of uniform magnetic field.
(b) List two factors on which the magnitude of magnetic field produced by a current carrying
straight conductor depends.
(c) State the rule which determines the direction of magnetic field in the above case.
OR
(d) Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines produced in this case
SECTION E (3 X 5 = 15)
14. (a) (i) State the rule used to find the force acting on a current carrying conductor placed in a
magnetic field.
(ii) Given below are three diagrams showing the entry of an electron in a magnetic field.
Identify the case in which the force will be (1) maximum and (2) minimum respectively.
Give reason for your answer.
(b) (i) Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines of (i) a bar magnet
(ii) List two distinguishing features between solenoid and bar magnet fields.
15. Raina while doing certain reactions observed that heating of substance ‘X’ with vinegar like
smell with a substance ‘Y’ (which is used as an industrial solvent) in presence of conc.
Sulphuric acid on a water bath gives a sweet- smelling liquid ‘Z’ having molecular formula
C2H2O2. When heated with caustic soda (NaOH), to gives back the sodium salt of carboxylic
acid and the compound ‘Y’.
Identify ‘x’, ‘Y’, and ‘Z’. Illustrate the changes with the help of suitable chemical equations.
16. (a) Create a food chain of the following organisms.
Insect, Hawk, Grass, Snake, Frog
(b) Name the organism at the third trophic level of the created food chain.
(c) Which organism of this food chain will have the highest concentration of non-
biodegradable chemicals?
(d) Name the phenomenon associated with it.
(e) If 10,000 Joules of energy is available to frogs, how much energy will be available to snakes
in this food chain?
