Maximum Marks: 70 Time Allowed: 3 hours.
General Instructions:
(1) There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based of 1 mark
each, Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three
marks each, Section D contains two case study-based questions of four marks each and Section E
contains three long answer questions of five marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice.
(6) Use of calculators is not allowed.
SECTION-A

19. Find the value of p so that the vectors A=2 i + p j + k and B=4 i – 2 j -2 k are perpendicular to each 2
other.
20. Given figures are examples of some potential energy functions in one dimension. The total energy of 2
the particle is indicated by a cross on the ordinate axis. In each case, specify the regions, if any, in
which the particle cannot be found for the given energy. Also, indicate the minimum total energy the
particle must have in each case.

21. How far from Earth’s surface does the value of g decrease to 4 of its value on Earth’s surface, given 2
that the Earth’s radius is 6400 kilometres?

23. A projectile is fired horizontally with a velocity of 98 ms-1 from the top of a hill 490 m high. 3
Find:
(i) the velocity with which it strikes the ground.
(ii) the time is taken to reach the ground.
(iii) the distance of the target from the hill.
24. A mass of 4 kg is suspended by a rope of length 30 m from the ceiling. A force of 30 N in the horizontal 3
direction is applied at the mid-point of the rope. What is the angle, the rope makeswith the vertical in
equilibrium? Take g = 10 ms-2 and neglect the mass of the rope.
25. (a) State & prove work-energy theorem 3
(b) What is the source of the kinetic energy of the falling raindrops?
26. Figure shows the position-time graph of a particle of mass 4 kg. What is the (a) force on the particle for 3
t < 0, t > 4 s, 0 < t < 4 s? (b) impulse at t = 0 and t = 4 s? (Consider one-dimensional motion only).

27. A man can swim with a speed of 4.0 km h-1 in still water. How long does he take to cross a river 1.0 km 3
wide if the river flows steadily at 3.0 km h-1 and he makes his strokes normal to the river current? How
far down the river does he go when he reaches the other bank?
28. Figure gives the x-t plot of a particle executing one-dimensional simple harmonic motion. Give the 3
signs of position, velocity and acceleration variables of the particle at t = 0.3 s, 1.2 s, - 1.2 s.

29. Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:
The time rate of change of position of the object in any direction is called speed of the object If an
object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time, then its speed is called uniform speed andifit
covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time, then its speed is called nonuniform or variable
speed. The ratio of the total distance travelled by the object to the total time taken is called average
speed of the object. The speed may be positive or zero but never negative. The speed-time graph of a
particle moving along a fixed direction is shown in following Fig.

30. Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:
When we purchase a car, we are interested in the horse power of its engine. We know that an engine
with large horse power is the most effective in accelerating the automobile.
In many cases it is useful to know not just the total amount of work being done, but how
fast the work is done. We define power as the rate at which work is being done. Efficiency of
machine is defined as the ratio of work done by the machine to the work-done on the
machine in terms of power it may be written as efficiency equals to output power per unit time / Input
power per unit time.
Answer the following questions:
(i) A lift of mass 200 kg moves upward with uniform velocity of 4.0 m/sec. If the efficiency 1
of motor is 70% the input power of the motor is.

(ii) An engine pulls a car of mass 1500 kg on a level road at a constant speed of 5 ms-1. If the 1
frictional force is 500 N. What power does the engine generate?

(iii) Where is the energy of a vertically projected body maximum? 1
(iv) Does the work done in raising a load onto a platform depend upon how fast it is raised? 1

31. (a) Discuss the motion of a vehicle on a level road having a circular turn. 5
(b) What is the need for the banking of circular roads/tracks?
(c) An aircraft executes a horizontal loop at a speed of 720km/h with its wings banked at 30°.What is
the radius of the loop?
32. (a) State and prove parallelogram law of vector addition for coinitial vectors. Discuss the case of 5
maximum resultant.
(b) A man wants to cross the river to an exactly opposite point on the other bank. If he can row his
boat with twice the velocity of the current, then at what angle to the current, he must keep the boat
pointed.
33. (a) Derive an expression for acceleration due to gravity Earth at a height h above the surface of earth. 5
(b) Does the escape speed of a body from the earth depend on
(i) the mass of the body, (ii) the location from where it is projected,
(iii) the direction of projection, (iv) the height of the location from where the body is launched?
(c) A planet orbits around the Sun twice as fast as the Earth. What would be its orbital size as
compared to that of the Earth?
