1 1min Introduce the topic Introduction:- Basic life support (BLS) defines Lecture cum discussion
sequences of procedures performed to restore the
circulation of oxygenated blood after a sudden
pulmonary or cardiac arrest until they can be given full
medical care at a hospital. BLS does not include the
use of drugs or invasive skills.
3 1min Define BLS Definition:- Basic Life Support (BLS) refers to the care Lecture cum discussion What do ypu
healthcare providers & pubic safety professionals mean by BLS?
provide to patients who are experiencing respiratory
arrest , cardiac arrest or airway obstruction.
Respiratory arrest :- If the patient is not breathing but
has a definitive pulse, the patient is in respiratory
arrest. To care for a patient experiencing respiratory
arrest , ventilations must be given.
Cardiac arrest:-If there is no breathing ,no pulse & the
patient is unresponsive , the patient is in cardiac arrest.
Cardiac arrest is a life threatening situation in which
the electrical & or mechanical system of the heart
malfunctions resulting in complete cessation of the
heart’s ability.

Emergency Response >High Quality What is the
CPR>Defibrillation>Post-Cardiac Arrest Care>Recovery. chain of
OHCA:- Activation of emergency response >High survival?
Quality CPR > Defibrillation> Advanced
Resuscitation>Post cardiac arrest care> Recovery.
Procedure:- a)Step 1
1)Sudden unresponsiveness:- Demonstration
5 30min Demonstrate the steps Verify scene safety
2)Check for responsiveness.
3)Shout for nearby help
4)Activate emergency response system via mobile
device
5)Get AED & emergency equipment.
b)Step 2:-
1)Look for no breathing & check pulse felt within 10
seconds.
- if normal breathing & pulse felt – then monitor until
emergency responders arrive.
-if no normal breathing ,pulse felt-Provide rescue
breathing.1 breathe every 6 sec or 10 breaths/ min
&Check pulse every 2 min if no pulse found start CPR.
-if no breathing or only gasping pulse not felt-start CPR
(30 :2)use AED as soon as possible.
c)Step 3:-
1)AED arrives.
2)Check rhythm---A)Shockable rhythm -give 1
shock.Resume CPR immediately for 2 min .& continue
until ALS providers take over or victim starts to move.
B)Non shockable rhythm:--- Resume CPR immediately
for 2 min& continue until ACLS providers take over or
victim starts to move.
Summery:-
Today so far we have demonstrated about the basic life
7 1min Summerize the topic support process.
Conclusion:-
8 2min Conclude the topic CPR is responsibility of team of personnel. For patients
with cardiac arrest ,early appropriate
resuscitation ,involving CPR, early defibrillation &
appropriate implementation of post cardiac arrest care
,leads to improved survival & neurologic outcome.
