Pre-planning /Preliminary Survey/Feasibility Study

The objectives of AICTE student activity is to expose students to the real time life
challenges, to provide opportunities to gather data, analyze data, propose solutions and implement
solutions, provide an opportunity for personal development, to create engineers who are proud
volunteers having sense of achievement and ready to take up projects having social impact and to
create digital awareness.

As a part of earning AICTE activity points, I as a student of third year Artificial Intelligence
& Data Science along with my group, visited Kumbalagodu village to educate the residents about
Digital Payments and also to facilitate the use of digital payment applications and required
formalities to set up digital payments interface at various shops by performing various activity.

The entire program was carried over the period of June 6 to June 23rd 2023. Each day, the program
was done by interacting with the residents and creating awareness about digital transactions and
payment methods and setting up digital payment interfaces at shops.

Chapter 3

Introduction to Water Conservation

3.1 Definition and Importance

Water conservation refers to the careful management and use of water resources to
ensure sustainability for future generations. It is essential to balance water demand with
available supply, preventing depletion and maintaining ecological health. Effective
conservation practices help mitigate droughts, reduce energy consumption, and promote
efficient agricultural and industrial use.

3.2 Causes of Water Scarcity

Water scarcity arises from several factors, including climate change, population growth,
and inefficient water usage. Urbanization and deforestation contribute to declining
groundwater levels, while pollution from industrial and domestic sources reduces water
quality. The increasing global demand for fresh water makes conservation efforts even
more critical.

3.3 Methods of Water Conservation

Various methods can be implemented to conserve water, such as:

● Rainwater Harvesting: Collecting and storing rainwater for reuse in

irrigation and domestic use.

● Drip Irrigation: Reducing water wastage in agriculture by delivering

water directly to plant roots.

● Water Recycling and Reuse: Treating wastewater for reuse in

industrial and agricultural applications.

● Public Awareness Campaigns: Educating communities about

responsible water consumption and conservation techniques.

Chapter 4

Importance of Water Conservation

Water conservation is crucial for maintaining the balance of ecosystems and ensuring

the availability of water for future generations. As the global population grows, the

demand for water increases, and the existing water resources become strained.

Efficiently using and conserving water can help mitigate the risk of shortages, ensuring

that water is available for agriculture, drinking, and industrial purposes.

In many regions, water scarcity is a pressing issue, leading to negative impacts on

agriculture, health, and economic stability. By conserving water, we can minimize the

stress placed on natural resources, such as rivers, lakes, and aquifers. This reduces the

pressure on ecosystems that depend on these water sources, allowing them to remain

healthy and continue providing essential services.

Water conservation also plays a vital role in energy savings. The process of treating,

pumping, and distributing water requires significant amounts of energy. By using

water more efficiently, we not only conserve the resource itself but also reduce energy

consumption, which in turn lowers carbon emissions, helping in the fight against

climate change.

Key Points:

• Ensures sustainable water supply for future generations

• Reduces the stress on natural water sources
• Minimizes negative impacts of water scarcity on agriculture, health, and
economy
• Helps maintain healthy ecosystems and biodiversity
• Reduces energy consumption associated with water treatment and
distribution
• Mitigates the effects of climate change by lowering carbon emissions
• Encourages responsible consumption and community awareness

Activity Breakup

5.1 Awareness on Water Conservation Techniques

We conducted interactive sessions with the local community to educate them
on the importance of water conservation. Posters, pamphlets, and real-world
examples were used to explain best practices.
5.2 Conducting Surveys on Water Usage in Households
Household surveys were carried out to assess water consumption patterns, identify areas
of excessive use, and suggest conservation methods. The collected data was analyzed to
understand water wastage trends.
5.3 Installing Rainwater Harvesting Systems
To promote sustainable water usage, we helped install rainwater harvesting systems in
selected households. We demonstrated how collected rainwater can be used for
irrigation, cleaning, and other purposes.

5.4 Educating Local Community on Efficient Water Usage

Workshops were held to demonstrate water-saving techniques such as fixing leaks,

using water-efficient appliances, and optimizing irrigation methods. We also
emphasized reducing dependency on groundwater.

5.5 Wastewater Recycling Awareness Sessions

Local residents were taught how to treat and reuse wastewater from kitchens and
bathrooms for gardening and cleaning. The benefits of greywater recycling were
highlighted through practical demonstrations.
