i. What is ICT?

ICT means using computers and other devices to send, receive, and store information. Computers
take input (like typing on a keyboard) and give output (like showing text on a screen).
ii. What is a computer? Give an example.
A computer is a machine that helps us work and play. Example: A smartphone.
iii. Generations of Computers:
1. First: Big computers with vacuum tubes.
2. Second: Smaller, faster computers with transistors.
3. Third: Used tiny circuits to work better.
4. Fourth: Small, powerful computers with microchips.
5. Fifth: Smart computers with AI.
iv. How do ICT devices help in measurement?
ICT devices measure things like temperature (thermometer) and speed (speedometer).
v. Good and Bad Sides of ICT:
✔️Helps us talk, learn, and work faster.
❌ Can be unsafe online, expensive, and bad for health.

We use ICT for learning, talking, shopping, banking, and fun activities.
Chapter 2

i. How is hardware different from software?

Hardware is the physical parts of a computer, while software is the programs

that run on it.

ii. In how many categories can you divide hardware components?

Hardware is divided into four categories: Input devices, Memory, Output

devices, and Storage devices.

iii. What is the difference between input and output?

Input sends data to the computer (e.g., keyboard), while output displays
results (e.g., monitor).

iv. List five input and five output devices.

Input: Keyboard, mouse, scanner, microphone, digital camera.

Output: Monitor, printer, speakers, projector, headphones.

v. What is the difference between data and information?

Data is raw facts, while information is processed and meaningful data.

vi. Describe RAM and ROM.

RAM is temporary memory, and ROM is permanent memory for system

instructions.

vii. How many types of hard drives are there?

Two types: HDD (slower, cheaper) and SSD (faster, expensive).

viii. What is the difference between memory and storage?

Memory (RAM) is temporary, while storage (HDD/SSD) is permanent.

ix. Explain the working of a computer.

A computer takes input, processes it, shows output, and stores data.
