WS 3 - Units & Measurements

The document presents a series of physics problems related to units and measurements, including the relationship between the oscillation period of an air bubble and various physical quantities. It also involves checking the dimensional correctness of equations related to simple harmonic motion, the speed of water ripples, and the dimensions of electrical resistance. Additionally, it examines the dimensions of coefficients in a force equation involving time.

WS – 3 UNITS & MEASUREMENTS

1. An air bubble formed by explosion inside water performed oscillations with time period T which is
directly proportional to 𝑃 𝑥 𝑑 𝑦 𝐸 𝑧, where P is pressure, d is density and E is the energy due to explosion.
Find the values of x, y and z.

2. Using the method of dimensions, check whether the given equation 𝑥 = 𝑎 cos(𝜔𝑡 + ∅) for the
displacement of a body executing S.H.M. with an angular velocity ‘ω’, amplitude ‘a’ and initial phase ‘∅′
is correct.

3. The speed v of ripples on the surface of water depends on surface tension σ, density ρ and wavelength
λ. The square of v is proportional to….

4. Find the dimensions of resistance in an electrical circuit in terms of dimension of mass M, length L, time T
and current A.

5. A force F is given by 𝐹 = 𝑎𝑡 + 𝑏𝑡 2, where t is time. What are the dimensions of a and b.
