Research Proposal

So, I’ve been thinking a lot about why it’s really important to value and respect

Indigenous ecological knowledge in the fight against climate change and my research question

is, why is it important to value and respect Indigenous ecological knowledge so that we could

benefit in the feature from Indigenous knowledge. Honestly, I think it’s such a huge question

because, while modern science has taught us a lot about our environment and surroundings,

there’s still so much we could learn from Indigenous knowledge too and we ignore this because

it isn’t regarded as science. I really think it’s time to start combining this traditional knowledge

with modern science to come up with better ways to tackle climate change. It just makes sense to

me that we should use both modern and traditional methods to solve such a big problem since

each has its strengths.

I want to highlight and show how Indigenous knowledge has helped them survived for so

long without environmental problems. I also want to show different perspectives on how they

treat their environment compared to us and how a lot of our problems are caused from how we

treat the environment in the first place. I want to show that even though their practices aren’t

regarded as “science” there’s still no doubt that they’ve been thriving. I’m going to use the

Google search engine to find my sources and find academic articles and trusted sites that talk

about or show how they interact with their environment compared to the U.S.
I’m using this type of research method to try to get a better understanding of Indigenous

ecological practices and knowledge. I also want to show specific practices and how this has

helped their environment. I’m going to try and use this data to show how Indigenous knowledge

works alongside modern science or show how it could help with our current environmental

problems today.
