Laboratory Activity # 5 – Nutrition for school aged children
Objectives:
●​ To be able to plan a balanced lunch box meal that includes a variety of food groups: proteins (e.g., lean
meat, beans), carbohydrates (e.g., rice, whole grains), vegetables, and fruits.
●​ To be able to research and identify the specific nutritional needs for school-aged children, focusing on
macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) and essential micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)
necessary for growth, development, and energy.
●​ To be able to incorporate cooking methods that preserve the nutritional value of the ingredients, such as
steaming, baking, or raw preparation.
●​ To be able to summarize the nutrient needs for the created bento box
