COMPLIANCE
Mandatory: Cirrus Design considers this Service Bulletin to be MANDATORY. Accomplish this Service
Bulletin within the next 100 hours, or at the next annual inspection, whichever occurs first. Compliance time
begins upon receipt of this Service Bulletin.
EFFECTIVITY
Cirrus Design SR20 serial numbers 1150 thru 1306.
Cirrus Design SR22 serial numbers 0175 thru 0497.
Note: SR20 serials 1005 thru 1326 and SR22 serials 0002 thru 0536 w/ starter P/N 646275-1 or
ES646275-1; If replacing starter P/N 646275-1 or ES646275-1 with starter P/N 656181, this
bulletin must be used to relocate the battery cable adel clamp on the battery box. Perform
Procedure - Battery Cable Adel Clamp Relocation. See Weight and Balance Section for
weight data.
APPROVAL
FAA approval has been obtained on all technical data in this Service Bulletin that affects type design.
PURPOSE
On aircraft equipped with starter P/N 655566, a condition exists where operation of the starter could cause
damage to the starter and/or MCU. Starter P/N 655566 is subject to a high in-rush current which may
cause the starter contactor in the MCU to stick. This condition has damaged the starter on some aircraft.
This Service Bulletin requires the replacement of starter P/N 655566 with a improved starter P/N 656181
that has an integral contactor that can accommodate the high in-rush current. This new configuration also
provides redundant contact protection for the starter.
Additionally, some affected airplanes were modified in the field with the improved starter P/N 656181 but
because of resultant battery cable chaffing, the battery cable adel clamp installation on these airplanes
must be relocated.
DESCRIPTION
This Service Bulletin contains procedures to inspect the starter to determine if starter replacement is
required, inspect the battery cable adel clamp installation to determine if relocation is required, and ensure
correct starter cable routing.
MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS
Starter Replacement: 1.0 manhour.
Battery Cable Adel Clamp Relocation: 1.5 manhours.
MATERIAL INFORMATION
See Accomplishment Instructions Section.
ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. Remove key from ignition.
B. Ensure BATTERY and AVIONICS master switches are in the OFF position.
C. Remove engine cowling. (Refer to AMM 71-10)
D. Locate and identify starter part number (See Figure 01):
1. If starter is identified as P/N 646275-1 or ES646275-1 no further maintenance is necessary. Per-
form the following steps:
a. Install engine cowling. (Refer to AMM 71-10)
b. Fill out compliance response form and warranty claim form and send to Cirrus Design
Customer Service. Complete airplane records by noting compliance with SB 2X-80-01 in
Airplane Logbook.
2. If starter is identified as P/N 656181, the battery cable adel clamp may need to be relocated.
Perform the following steps: (See Figure 02)
a. At inboard support member of battery mounting tray, determine if battery cable adel clamp
is located 0.84 inch (2.13 cm) forward of fuel pump relay installation hole.
b. If battery cable adel clamp is located 0.84 inch (2.13 cm) forward of fuel pump relay instal-
lation hole, the adel clamp is located in the correct position and no further action is
required. Perform the following steps:
1. Install engine cowling. (Refer to AMM 71-10)
