📌 Task 1: Advanced GTM Implementation & Data Layer Design

Scenario: SkinSeoul’s WooCommerce-based website wants to capture detailed user
interactions to improve marketing attribution and user experience insights. The team
currently lacks structured tracking for critical events such as product views, add-to-cart,
checkout steps, and transaction completions. You, as the Data/BI Engineer, need to
design and implement a scalable Google Tag Manager solution that surfaces these
events accurately for downstream reporting in BigQuery and marketing analytics tools
(e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Ads).
Task:

1. Data Layer & Event Tracking

○ Outline a data layer schema for key e-commerce events (e.g., product
detail view, add-to-cart, purchase) that can be pushed to GTM.
○ Identify essential data points (e.g., product ID, product category, price,
user ID, cart value) that should be captured at each stage.
2. Tag/Trigger Configuration
○ Describe how you would configure tags and triggers in GTM for each
event type (e.g., product view tag firing on product pages, add-to-cart tag
on corresponding button click).
○ Discuss naming conventions and version control best practices for
maintaining a clean, organized GTM environment.
3. Integration & Validation
○ Explain how you would validate tag firing (e.g., using GTM Preview Mode
or real-time reports in analytics platforms).
○ Include a brief plan for error handling or fallback options if the data layer is
missing certain variables.
4. Downstream Data Usage
○ Show how the captured GTM events would be exported or synced to
BigQuery (or other analytics platforms) for deeper analysis.
○ Propose 2-3 KPIs (e.g., conversion funnel metrics, average order value,
product/category-level performance) that you’d derive from this data in
Looker Studio or similar BI tools.

Key Points to Address:

● Scalability: How your GTM and data layer design accommodates new events or
additional variables without major overhauls.
● Data Governance: Methods to ensure consistent naming conventions, versioning,
and role-based permissions in GTM.
● Business Impact: How the enriched tracking data can inform marketing
campaigns, product decisions, or personalization efforts.

👉 Submission Format:
● Submit a PDF document
