To create your project you will need the following materials:

1. Triple twisted jute rope - 0,7 kg (approx. 600 meters).

2. Hook 5 mm (Clover hook size H).
3. Crochet markers.
4. Scissors.

Terms:
● CH - chain
● SLST – slip stitch
● TR - treble crochet
● DC – double crochet
● HDC - half double crochet
● SC – single crochet
● RS - right side
● WS - wrong side
● ST- stitch

Dimensions of the bag:

Width - 42 cm, height - 32-34 cm, handles length - 48-50 cm.

So let’s get started!

The bag consists of three separately made canvases (detail 1) and three separately
made squares (detail 2).

Detail 1 (crocheted in turning rows)

Make a chain of 60 CH + 1 CH (the last stitch is a lifting loop).

ROW 1 (RS): Insert the hook into the second stitch from it and work SC into the back
bump of the chain stitches (back ridge loop) (pic. 1.1, 1.2). Work 59 SC till the end of row
and turn. The blue needle points at the right place on pics 1.1 и 1.2.

[TOTAL: 60 STs]

ROW 2 (WS): CH (lifting loop), 60

HDC along the straight line (pic 2).
Turn.

[TOTAL: 60 STs]

Pic. 2

ROW 3 (RS): CH (lifting loop), 56 SC in the

back loop only (the blue needle points at
the right place on the pic. 3), 1 CH, skip 1
stitch, 3 SC (pic. 3).
TOTAL: 60 STs.
In this row we made a hole for the
handle (red arrow on pic. 4), skipping 1
stitch. In Rows 5, 7, 9 etc. we crochet the
entire row of SC. [TOTAL: 60 STs]

3

Repeat ROW 2 and ROW 3 7

more times.
Total: 17 rows.

Break the rope, fasten off and hide

the tail.

Canvas dimensions: 47 х 16.5 cm.

Make 2 the same details more .

Detail 2 (crocheted in the round without turning)

We start our work with an amigurumi magic ring (pic. 5.1). It’s a basic crochet element, so I
won’t make its detailed description.

ROUND 1: CH 3 (counts as the first DC - pic. 5.1) and work 15 DC more into the ring. Join
with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning CH-3 (pic. 5.2). Pull the free end of the rope
and tighten the ring. [TOTAL: 16 STs].

Pic. 5.1 Pic. 5.2

Pic. 6 - the first round is done.

ROUND 2: CH 2 (lifting loops), puff stitch in the

same stitch and in each DC around. Join with a
slip stitch to the top of the first puff stitch.
[TOTAL 16 puff STs] - pic. 8.

How to crochet puff stitch?

Puff Stitch:

● Yarn over, insert hook into the indicated stitch, and pull up a loop (3 loops on
hook).
● Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook).
● Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, and pull up a loop (7 loops on hook).
● Yarn over, and pull yarn through all loops on the hook (red arrow on pic.7.1). Chain
1 to secure the stitch.

Pic. 7.1 Pic. 7.2

5

Pic. 7.2 - the first Puff is done.

Pic. 8 - the second round is done.

ROUND 3: CH 2 (lifting loops).

Then work: Cluster stitch in the same stitch of

the previous round, CH 2;
*Cluster stitch in the next CH-1 space, CH 2*.
Repeat from * to * in each CH-1 space around.
Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning
Cluster stitch - pic. 9.2. [TOTAL16 cluster STs].

Slip stitch in the next CH to go to the center of

CH-2 space.

Making a cluster stitch is like making a series of incomplete double crochet stitches. The
first cluster stitch of the round is a little different, to account for the starting CH-2.

How to make the cluster stitches?

● Yarn over, insert hook into the indicated space (for the first Cluster - insert the hook
into the same stitch), and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops
on hook).
● Yarn over, insert hook into the same space, and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull
through 2 loops (3 loops on hook).
● Yarn over, insert hook into the same space, and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull
through 2 loops (4 loops on hook).
● Yarn over, and pull rope through all loops on the hook (pic. 9.1).

Pic. 9.1 Pic. 9.2

6

ROUND 4: Chain 4 (counts as the first TR) and then crochet 2 TR in the same CH-2 space.

Then, crochet the 1st side: 3 DC in the next CH-2 space, 3 HDC in the next CH-2 space, 3
DC in the next CH-2 space. This forms the first side of the square (pic.10).

Next, make the 1st corner: 3 TR in the next CH-2 space, CH 3, 3 TR in the same CH-2
space. This forms the first corner.

Now, we’ll repeat that side + corner pattern to make the other sides and corners.

The 2nd side: 3 DC in the next CH-2 space, 3 HDC in the next CH-2 space, 3 DC in the
next CH-2 space.

The 2nd corner: 3 TR in the next CH-2 space, CH 3, 3 TR in the same CH-2 space.

Do the same for the 3rd side, the 3rd corner, the 4th side.

To finish your last corner: crochet 3 TR in the same space as the beginning treble
stitches, CH 3 and join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning CH-4.

ROUND 4: SC in the back loops only around

(pic. 11.1).

In the corner CH-3 spaces work:

in the first stitch - 1 SC,
in the second stitch - 3 SC,
in the third stitch - 1 SC (pic. 11.2).

Break the rope, make a false loop to the top of

the first SC, fasten off and hide the tail.

Make 2 the same squares more .

HOW TO CONNECT DETAILS

Connect squares (det. 2) with slip stitches,

picking up the back loops of the outside
chain on the squares.

The way it should be made:

- Insert the hook in the center of the stitch

(“chain”) of the right piece – see the green
arrow in pic. 12;
- Then insert the hook in the center of the
stitch (“chain”) of the left piece – see the red
arrow in pic. 12;

Pic. 12
8

- Now you’ve got 3 stitches on your hook – the working one + 2 stitches from the left and the
right pieces (see pic. 13.2);

- Yarn over and pull the rope through all 3 stitches on the hook.
Repeat these steps until the end of the side of the square. VIDEO IS HERE.

Pic. 13.1 Pic. 13.2

First, you need to connect 3 squares using this method.

Canvas dimensions: 47 х 16.5 cm.

Place 4 rectangular canvases on a horizontal surface as shown on pic. 14.

Make sure that the holes for the handle on Det. 2, Det. 3, and Det. 4 are atop.
Connect details with slip stitches, picking up the back loops only.

Place markers at points 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the parts Det. 1, Det. 2, Det. 3 and Det. 4
respectively, at a distance of 20 STs from the top point of each part.
Place markers at control points 2’’, 3’’, 4’’ и 5’’ on the parts Det. 2, Det. 3, Det. 4 и
Det. 1 respectively, at a distance of 20 STs from point 1 (count left from point 1).

Det. 1 and Det. 2 connection. Join the thread at point 1 and connect Det. 1 and Det.
2 from point 1 to point 2 through control point 2’’. In this case, points 2 and 2’ must match.
Cut the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.

Det. 2 and Det. 3 connection. Join the thread at point 1 and connect Det. 2 and Det. 3
from point 1 to point 3 through control point 3’’. In this case, points 3 and 3’ must match.
Cut the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.

Det. 3 and Det. 4 connection. Join the thread at point 1 and connect Det. 3 and Det. 4
from point 1 to point 4 through control point 4’’. In this case, points 4 and 4’ must match.
Cut the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.
9

Det. 4 and Det. 1 connection. Join the thread at point 1 and connect Det. 4 and Det. 1
from point 1 to point 5 through control point 5’’. In this case, points 5 and 5’ must match.
Cut the rope, fasten off and hide the tail.

BAG HANDLES

Bag handles are two hollow cords (I-cord). Handles length is 68-70 cm.

Pic. 15.1 Pic. 15.2

Make a chain of 4 CH (pic. 15.1).

Step 1:
- insert the hook into the second stitch from it, yarn over and pull up the loop - 2 loops
on the hook;
- insert the hook into the next stitch from it, yarn over and pull up the loop - 3 loops on
the hook;
- insert the hook into the last stitch, yarn over and pull up the loop - 4 loops on the
hook (pic. 15.2).

Step 2: Remove the loops from the hook (pic.

16).
Step 3:
- insert the hook into the first stitch, yarn
over and pull up the loop - 1 loop on the hook;
- insert the hook into the second stitch, yarn
over and pull up the loop - 2 loops on the hook;
- insert the hook into the third stitch, yarn
over and pull up the loop - 3 loops on the hook;
- insert the hook into the fourth stitch, yarn
over and pull up the loop - 4 loops on the hook.

Pic. 16

Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 to the required length of 68-70 cm. VIDEO IS HERE.

Cut the rope, pull the rope through all the loops, fasten off and hide the tail.
Pull the handles into the CH-1 spaces on Det. 2, 3, 4 and into the CH-3 space on
Det.1. Tie knots.
